God, I wish my school band was good enough to play this again. All the seniors left and now there's very few people who actually care about music as I do....
I played this back in high school and went "wait, isn't this the theme from Independence Day"? I miss playing so much, and this song was such a blast, especially on my instrument (trumpet).
I also play clarinet and i started last year. I’m in high school 8th grade (secondary 2) and I’m in two bands this year the one with 7th and 8th grades and the big band in my school. I’m gonna play this with the big band and I love the sound of it. But I’m also nervous bc I still can’t go to the second register.
This song brings wonderful memories. My Middle school band played that, it was amazing. That summer, our boy scout troop went on a week long canoe trip in the canadian boundary waters, I had this song going through my head the entire trip. It was the most beautiful thing ever.
This is absolute brilliance! I love how cinematic it sounds, especially at the beginning with the French Horn. The 7/8 time is just so amazing and that flute solo? Wow!
Im playing this song in Washington High School for the concert festival coming up next week! This song is so beautiful i love it im playing the flute as well!
This piece is fun for percussionists... When you have a sufficient amount of players. My school is doing this for NYSSMA Majors and we are load of a total of five percussionists, hence setups have to happen. I’m currently playing most of Timpani and Mallet Percussion and the missing colors from percussion in the musicality standpoint really brings my OCD out. Bright side, Reineke’s percussion writing is beautiful and blending with the whole motif of the piece of being in a rapid river, especially in the 7/8. If you understand my pain thank you for relating me :)
I played this for a kent state wind ensemble I'm in back in November. I wish I could play that concert for the first time again because it was one of the best things I've ever done.

We are playing this song in class and I love it and hate it because my teacher who started trumpet last year thinks he's at my level and said "well I can't reach that so i'm also giving you an alternative !" YES. I. CAN. I can reach a high B. You know this, teacher. Anyhow I love this song overall and our band mostly formed of 10th graders such as myself are doing an awesome job playing it. Yes, we have like 5 11th/12th graders.

And it was published in 1999, after the movies "The Little Mermaid" and "Independence Day" were released. And from the sound of the music, it is not a Victorian era piece.

I adore this piece and have for 20 years, but it still blows my mind that there wasn't some kind of plagiarism suit from David Arnold, because parts of this piece are unabashedly stolen from the Independence Day OST 🤣🤣🤣 The greats always borrow!

We played this in high school. I was 2nd chair clarinet and was so scared the 1st chair kid would somehow be absent and I'd have to play the solo😂
