Metzen's absence was definitely felt in the stories and overall game direction. It really felt like the heart and soul was no longer there. The Warcraft franchise in particular was his baby that he helped grow and flourish and when he left, the game kind of lost that feeling or touch of what made it 'Warcraft' in the first place. While I don't want to get my hopes up too high as of right now, I can't deny the joy I felt to see Chris back up on the stage talking about future expansions.

If he bungs this up, he will receive A LOT of criticism from his OG peers. I'll be first in line...

As a 40 year old who has played the WC franchise since the OG Warcraft, I loved the game, its premise and its execution, and I loved watching it grow into WC2 and then into WC3, which was a radical departure from the previous two in terms of storytelling and gameplay. I’m also old enough to know how both time and experience affect an individual, and I still have faith in Metzen’s ability to get WoW back onto the right path. I will absolutely give the guy a chance to make the Warcraft storytelling great again…
I started in Warcraft III moving on to WoW, and never left. Losing Metzen when we did left a chasm no one could fill no matter how hard they tried or how good they were. It was everywhere in the game. However, I am glad that he is back and I do hope that he still has that Metzen magic he is known for. I hope it's enough. I really do.

A friend assured me that the storytelling was top notch, the lore incredible, and there was gold in them thar enemies’ pockets. I came, I paid my subs, and stayed. I signed up for The War Within - even if there’s no fire-wreathed Fallen - on release day. Looking forwards to travelling the path with Metzen once more the bard.
Now since we got Chris back - I want all of the big WoW music composers back. I would love nothing more than to see Russell Brower return,more of Neal Acree,more of Jason Hayes,Sam Cardon,Derek Duke,Glen Stafford. THEY are the ones making that true WoW atmosphere.
TLDW: what we have always known. Chris Metzen is iconic because he cares the way the players do. It is his story we are playing. Without the storyteller, the story loses meaning. Plain and simple. (But watch the whole video because it is awesome and insanely well done)

I feel hope for any xpact now that Metzen is onboard. If Blizzard wants to satisfy the player base and really bring back that WoW nostalgia, give him the keys to the franchise and the resources he needs to further develop what he started and then get out of his way!!!

His Arrived just like Thrall who retired but his job called back to clean the mess all higher ups, yet fans celebrated for their hero has came back to give their childhood back.
I personally use a Warlords of Draenor version of model viewer. I've had it since WoD and intentionally kept a version of WoD on my PC for it to run off, since I knew WMV would just break repeatedly over and over in the future. The WoD version was very stable (for me at least) which is why I kept it.
metzen truly was the beating heart of warcraft. unfortunately, i don’t think he alone is enough to bring it back to its roots now. too much talent has left and the new hires that have replaced them are pushing such a detached and unfitting narrative. it’s the sad truth. i’ll still check out TWW and the world soul saga as a whole, but i’ll be shocked if it isn’t more of the same issues we’ve been seeing with the narrative as of late.
I agree with the “pushed narrative” aspect. My hope is that the man who wrote the vast majority of Warcraft’s great lore has the spine and fortitude to tell those who have less talent in their entire body than Metzen does in his nail clippings to eff off if he needs to. Their garbage storytelling and forced “social justice” narratives have no place in a world like the World of Warcraft.
My hope is the blizzard finally got all the brain rot out of their system in Dragonflight and remember it's a fantasy game and not a podium for spouting political beliefs. They really went hard with it in this expansion. Can't escape into the world for long without a trans dragon or a gay horse-man couple to yoink you right back to reality.

We couldve had galakrond, we couldve had deathwing, the primalists couldve been an actual damn threat if they killed one of the aspects. I'll be honest the thing i wanted most out of dragonflight when i found out that emerald dream was gonna be the last little zone. And fyrrak was gonna be the last boss.... i was like ok.... and we just kinda killed him and gave the night elves a new home (a new home that if you visit isnt even a city and theres no night elf npcs anywhere and its absolutely barren and useless as a visiting zone) when i saw the end of expac thing and the aspects got their powers back and all i saw was cringe. I realized yes dragonflight had the best gameplay. But WOD had a better story. Fucking WOD. Wanna know MY ending to dragonflight. Aspects get their powers. And mid speach when ysera starts talking again she gets blasted by a void beam. And dies on the spot and falls to the floor. Iridikron kills half the aspects and sabellion. Leave malygos, yseras daughter, ebonhorn. But kill everyone else. And give us A REASON to be hype for the next expac. Something to leave us hungry for that next story as we run away from a corrupted voided out world tree.
