With your version, I could even see one of the girls, not becoming a straight up villain, but being like a chaotic neutral anti hero, just doing whatever makes her happy, regardless of how if affects anyone else. She was so upset that she didn't get the childhood of the girl she was modeled after so now she's getting it in her adulthood (and the more I write this the more I think Bubbles would be perfect for that, from sweet to sour). Maybe she'd even become the leader of a mild band of criminals and would be the hardest to get to help the professor.

I thought on it and came up with a "darker version of the Powerpuff Girls" idea. The girls and professor learn that the girls, because they are non-human and were created to be the "perfect little girls", will not grow up or age physically. The professor doesn't see it as a problem, after all, who hasn't dreamt of being a kid forever? The girls, on the other hand, are devastated, as the future they thought they would have (dream jobs, families, etc.) is ripped away from them. The girls try to make an artificial way to grow, which is just as hard as it sounds, no hand-waving here. Time passes, they have yet to grow, and the world outgrows them as their friends move on and the villains they fought either get smarter and harder to deal with, move on with their lives, or even die. We could even get so dark that they outlive the professor. I don't know how it would end, but seeing our heroes struggle with these more psychological problems would definitely be interesting.
Oooo that is a unique take on the PPGs. And its a very valid thought that because of their origins, there's a chance of them being immortal children. That can be very dark but a neat idea to explore (if told by the right people).
Oh, now that’s a interesting idea, if it’s gets done right that is, i would watch this version of the PowerPuff Girls and heck, you could maybe even add the PowerPunk Girls for good measure, as long as it would make sense at some point.
I actually read a fanfic about that idea once, though, it was moreso just kinda the idea itself laid out, rather than a full fledged story, but I actually quite like the idea. Could also be interesting to see how the Rowdyruff boys could fit into it as well, as they'd basically have the same problem, but different circumstances, and perhaps different opinions and perspectives. They were included in the fic I mentioned, and in it, after about 30 or so years, they grew to be friends, and even considered each other siblings in shared solidarity of their eternal childhood, which I quite like. I think it'd be neat for them to find an unexpected solace in people they once considered enemies, and to see how that relationship would change and grow over time, and how they would change and grow as people, even if their bodies remained the same.
The concept of, child character is not having a childhood because abusive parental figure forces them to do hero work is good. It's literally the concept of umbrella academy. They want to do umbrella academy with the Powerpuff girls. WHY?
You're the second person to tell me that this is basically the plot for Umbrella Academy--that's super interesting! The live action PPG's plot could work (even with it being similar to Umbrella Academy), the problem is that the writing is bad and its also just very mean-spirited (it feels like).
Fun fact when Lauren Foust was creating the concept for MLP Friendship is Magic she paid homage to the Power Puff Girls in the characters of the Cuty Mar Crusaders. Their leader is even named Apple BLOOM, and what is a bloom if not a blossom.

I feel like a mature show has to have a grounding in reality. I don’t want to spend thirty minutes intervals watching assholes act like three year olds and whining over petty crap. Most adults have more pressing matters to deal with, so these kinds of stories just come off as insulting to our intelligence.

One of the biggest things that annoyed me about the live action PPG is that being a POC and a lesbian are both things given to Buttercup. She stands out as existing only for 'woke' points. It would've been different and worked way better if say, Bubbles was white, Blossom was Latina, and Buttercup was black, and Bubbles was pan, Blossom was straight (or hell, asexual), and Buttercup was a lesbian. If one girl is going to stand out, they should stand out equally, for lack of a better term because as sentient science experiments, there really is no reason for just Buttercup to be a person of color. It makes sense for them to either be all the same like in the cartoon or all mixed up like in my proposal. Going half way is just bad writing imo

I listened to a reading of the leaked script and it was pretty bad. 1) The plot was too nonsensical. The girls said they didn't like fighting crime, but if they did nothing the monsters would have just wrecked the town. They were never forced to fight crime they chose to. 2) It was too meta and self-referential. Meta jokes should be quick throw-away gags. Here the professor has a character bible for the girls and they have to follow the character bible. They said they had a cartoon made about them. 3) They made Buttercup a lesbian just because she is a tomboy. Not saying tomboyish lesbains don't exist but its a tad sterotypical. I think they should have made Blossom or Bubbles lesbain if they wanted to change their sexuality.
The problem with remakes is that they always make it something dark or something woke or modern society. Powerpuff girls is a light hearted show about little girls saving the world with their ablities, why make it something about woke culture, add lore and make it, just plain dislikable? Like you are removing the qualities that this show has, I don't need forced representation that y'all woke modern people do.
Exactly! Ideally, a PPG live action show would be fun and whimsical and actiony. But if it HAD to be dark, you have to really really REALLY know what you're doing--otherwise it'll be a flop.
It's not even about being woke, it's depending on being "woke" to get an audience. Viewers aren't dumb, put in enough subtlety and people's clogs will start turning.
My main problem is the reason why they made the cartoon based off of the live action one. They clearly wanted to make jabs at it by saying it's racist because the cartoon made Buttercup and the professor white and also calling it homophobic because Buttercup was clearly straight in the cartoon but clearly gay in "real life". Also why specifically Buttercup is the gay black woman? I don't care that they changed the girls race or sexuality but Buttercup is known in the cartoon for not being the smartest of the girls and very short tempered. She's also the most violent of the 3 and the grossest one. So why is she the black gay one?

I highly 100% agreed with what you said. I feel like they tried to make money off based on the original version and make it look "the best" live-action but no, they don't realize how the fans' feelings about these remakes. They don't realize how much the fans love the shows so much during their childhood and being part of their lives. Plus, who asks you they want a live-action off from the original version? NOBODY! Just leave the classic shows alone and create your own show. 🙄🙄 One thing I want to talk about is that I'm happy about is that Avatar creators left the Netflix project because they don't like their ideas I believe and I heard that Netflix is aiming for older audiences rather than aiming for everyone which I feel like that's a bad move. Anyway, I think your version is not so bad because I like you added some new characters which totally inspired by PPG. Honestly, this is what I wanted something like this rather than just making a darn live-action. At least your version is pretty much creative here compare to the CW version.
There is a way, I believe, to make PPG darker and still keep it fun. If it were up to me, I'd take it in a completely different direction (what that direction is, idk...it just wouldnt be...THIS). I only tried to rework the pieces that were given to me. I'd totally just start over, though. I also question who wanted a live action PPG. I'm not saying NO ONE did, but...fewer people were asking for it than who were actually asking for it >.>
Apparently the execs who make shows nowadays are stuck in 2006 when dark and edgy was all the rage and think it still is today. Hence why every show based on otherwise colorful and cheerful cartoons are remade into a parody of 2006 era media.
I personally feel this whole show/reimagining/idea failed from the start due to one simple reason. this show wanted to be a dark, subversive, deconstruction of the powerpuff girls and wanted to ask "what would actually happen to these kids if they grow up" (along the lines of say a story like watchmen, the boys, etc) now that may sound like an interesting concept on paper but it completely misses the point of the original show. the original basis for the powerpuff girls was having these cute, adorable, little girls VIOLENTLY beat up villains, giant monsters, and the devil, that's where the comedy came from. The whole show was based around a farcical idea, the juxtaposition of cute girls beating up giant monsters, that's the point it was a comedy show (the og og pilot for the show they were called the whoopass girls and instead of chemical X it was a can of whoopass). By trying to make it a serious deconstruction you are missing the point entirely, it's like trying to do a critique/deconstruction with the looney tunes, they were never meant to be taken seriously and by doing so you miss the point of said show
That is a very good point to make! Very good point indeed! I'm still not opposed to taking the PPGs seriously. I've seen it done relatively well. I just think it is SUPER easy to mess up. Like...its way easy to do it wrong that if you aren't super confident about your vision and if you miss the point of the original show entirely, you should not attempt to make it serious.
@@TheArtisticAloubell That's a good point and I agree with you on how it can be super easy to mess up/all depends on the skill of a writer, like a really hate it when writers try to deconstruct or do a "what if superman was evil?" because a majority of the time they just don't get superman or see him as "big strong man now he's evil". But at the same time writers who do get him like mark millar can do great with that concept, even multiple times (Superman: Red Son, Jupiter's Legacy)

As you re-wrote the Powerpuff Girls at the end, it got a little dark _(struck close to home for me)._ I think it would land with audiences, a lot of teens and some adults feel like they are trapped, having no life or agency, as long as you kept the kind heartedness from the original & let there be/showed that there was hope of them to take back there lives & to be there own people
Ideally yes, I would have them eventually grow to know and love themselves and have their own unique lives while also accepting that they are heroes, but their own kind of hero. X3
Anytime I think about how Warner Bros. keeps misunderstanding the original spirit of Tom and Jerry, I get reminded of how Powerpuff Girls has got it MUCH worse by people who don't understand the intended audience NOR what made the classic series so special and excellent in the first place, not helping that it was a more relatively "modern" Warner/Cartoon Network property created in the late 90s
I totally agree! Though i don't think a dramatic PPG is impossible, it's just SO easy to mess up. Like...even the PPG movie got quite dark and dramatic and it was really effective. I've seen some more serious/dramatic PPG fan content that was quite good, but it absolutely HAS to be done by fans who understand the original show. Otherwise... you get Powerpuff 😤

You mentioned the live action Winx Club (which I've heard about but never dared to watch). Would you be willing to go over the classic first three seasons of Winx Club? There's many fan fics of it, but I'd like to see what you think and what bothers you most about it.
I haven't watched the Winx Club in quite a few years and I would need to rewatch it to know if there were any issues I had with it. I watched it up until the season with the witch who had an evil book she used for her schemes. I believe its the season that Bloomix was introduced that I stopped watching. All I remember is that the quality of the show dipped down for me after the Believix season (even the Believix season was pushing it for me). I enjoyed the first 3 or 4 seasons of Winx, but then it started to feel like the writing became more juvenile and aimed towards younger kids. Apparently that's exactly what happened as the producers wanted to appeal to a younger audience. In any case, I don't remember enough details about Winx to dedicate a full video about it. I would legitimately have to rewatch it which I don't have the time or motivation to do atm. Maybe one day I will...we'll see! I do appreciate your interest, though! ^_^
I have never seen the script, but something tells me I should consider myself lucky I didn’t. I think the premise idea is good too, the problem was just the execution. There are lots of potentials they could go with it as well. I really love your rewrite of the premise, it makes a lot more sense than remaking it and character assassinating Professor Utonium. If you want to have a character similar to another, yet be different at the same time, make an original character. Coming from your premise, it would actually be a twist if it was Drake (I’m not gonna call him Professor Utonium cause it would be insulting the actually good professor) who actually created the cartoon villains to life in order to get the Powerpuff girls back (it just took a long time because the villains are so complex and powerful to create). I can’t wait for your video on Powerpuff Girls Z because it was a really good reimagining that I love. It’s unique enough to separate itself from the original cartoon, yet still have connections to at least know it’s still a reimagining from the original.
You actually guessed a plot point that I would have went with my premise--whether or not it was Drake who created the villains. I'm cool with him being the culprit or not--in the right hands either story could be cool X3 PPGZ was a fun time! I look forward to talking about it X3

My idea is that Blossom is trying to create change from the inside of Town Hall as a mayoral candidate, Buttercup follows their father's footsteps and becomes a scientist, and Bubbles becomes a kindergarten teacher, and because of their busy lives they haven't seen their father or each other in years except for over the phone or on video chat until a mysterious note shows up inviting them back to their childhood home where they find the Professor missing.

I use to like watching the powerpuff girls on UA-cam all the time but when they got a new sister I hated her so much that when I stop watching the show.
My favorite thing about the PPG, is that it broke the mold at the time. Yes, you had wonder woman, bat girl, and others. But the three girls were unsuspecting. You look at them and think: "Oh! They're harmless"! But it's not quite the case- they're cute AND kick butt! The best example that a cute, girly heroine, can still kick butt and take names. You don't have to be big and strong to be a tough hero, they took that flipped it on its head.

Honestly, the only way I can see PPG working as live action show is something in terms like Full House or ALF, cheesy sitcom where we are aware that many situations are overly exaggerated but still funny and cute. Profesor Utonium could be more of the focus as the single father of the three superhero girls (don't change their age!) and we could use characters from the original cartoon. But PPG never were meant to be live action show, maybe one movie or special would work, but not this pice of garbege CW try to sell to the fans.
I don't think it's inherently the CW that's the problem--nor is it the concept of the show. If someone at the CW was legitimately a fan of the original PPG and knew what made it special, they likely could have done a good job (or a good enough) job with this. But since that seems to not be the case, everything has to be made basically in the same dreary, edgy, teen drama way...the lack of originality is frustrating.

To reinforce the idea that bad faith reboots are just as shite as poorly executed live action reboots, - Thundercats Roar - Teen Titans Go (I suppose this one wasn't exactly in poor taste, but both the show itself *and* a handful of it's viewers began molding the energy around the show to be as much) - She-ra: Princesses of Power (Yet another one that might not have been in poor taste, if not for the energy surrounding the show and how the creators spoke about the original series) - I'd add the most recent He-man reboot in here too, if not because of how its creator spoke about it, then for the controversy surrounding it leading to how the energy surrounding the show was enough to give people whiplash. People get their hands on an old show and they're expected to at least respect what was done before that point, but there are always people who will openly and vocally make fun of the way original material was made or how it was written because they personally didn't like it. It's happened with comic books, movies, shows, etc. People who actually like the newer reboots will hide behind the argument that critics are too opinionated, but if they genuinely believe it's better, then they seem to conveniently forget that that itself is a matter of opinion. Most just don't appreciate being told by someone who's banking on their pre-existing fandom that the thing they're a fan of isn't as good as the thing they're making.

Okay, so take this with a grain of salt because I write fanfic. But I enjoy when there is a healthy mix of dark moments and the original style in things like this. Look up CW Monster High fanfic. It is perfect representation for what I mean. The characters are themselves, just with darker moments, they curse at moments where anyone would curse, it’s funny. The trick is finding a balance with everything, and keeping what made people like the show in the first place. Point is, a live action remake has the POTENTIAL to be super, or had. If they do it with a balance of everything.

We really need to take to consideration who the show is made for. Let's talk about the animated remake. True, I don't like it. But being born in 1990, I watched ppg from the very beginning and enjoyed every second of it. Now the generation is different. I hate admitting that I'm old but 8 year old kids now have nothing in common with 8 year olds in 1998. Which is not bad, just a fact. So I kind of expected not to like it even before I watched it. The live action remake on the other hand... You (the writer) need to know that if you're doing a show for adults, those are the same adults that were kids in 1998, so keep it similar to the original, because when nostalgia kicks in people are very sensitive. With that being said, I love your version of the story. Now a bit off topic but I would love to read a fantasy book series written by you. 😉
the reason why live action remakes are in dull colors it's because people think that bright colors are too overstimulating and are the main cause for ADHD hence why they are complaints about the stuff children are watching on their iPads these days

Besides, it's a different interpretation of the show and doesn't need to be 100% like the original. But unlike this live action show (that thankfully isn't happening) PPGZ still had the spirit of the OG show and respected it whereas the live action show seemed to spite it a bit.

The professor doesn't see it as a problem, after all, who hasn't dreamt of being a kid forever? The girls, on the other hand, are devastated, as the future they thought they would have (dream jobs, families, etc.) is ripped away from them. The girls try to make an artificial way to grow, which is just as hard as it sounds, no hand-waving here. Time passes, they have yet to grow, and the world outgrows them as their friends move on and the villains they fought either get smarter and harder to deal with, move on with their lives, or even die. We could even get so dark that they outlive the professor. I don't know how it would end, but seeing our heroes struggle with these more psychological problems would definitely be interesting.
Oooo that is a unique take on the PPGs. And its a very valid thought that because of their origins, there's a chance of them being immortal children. That can be very dark but a neat idea to explore (if told by the right people).
Oh, now that’s a interesting idea, if it’s gets done right that is, i would watch this version of the PowerPuff Girls and heck, you could maybe even add the PowerPunk Girls for good measure, as long as it would make sense at some point.

I actually read a fanfic about that idea once, though, it was moreso just kinda the idea itself laid out, rather than a full fledged story, but I actually quite like the idea.
Could also be interesting to see how the Rowdyruff boys could fit into it as well, as they'd basically have the same problem, but different circumstances, and perhaps different opinions and perspectives.
They were included in the fic I mentioned, and in it, after about 30 or so years, they grew to be friends, and even considered each other siblings in shared solidarity of their eternal childhood, which I quite like.
I think it'd be neat for them to find an unexpected solace in people they once considered enemies, and to see how that relationship would change and grow over time, and how they would change and grow as people, even if their bodies remained the same.

The concept of, child character is not having a childhood because abusive parental figure forces them to do hero work is good. It's literally the concept of umbrella academy. They want to do umbrella academy with the Powerpuff girls. WHY?

The live action PPG's plot could work (even with it being similar to Umbrella Academy), the problem is that the writing is bad and its also just very mean-spirited (it feels like).
Fun fact when Lauren Foust was creating the concept for MLP Friendship is Magic she paid homage to the Power Puff Girls in the characters of the Cuty Mar Crusaders. Their leader is even named Apple BLOOM, and what is a bloom if not a blossom.

I feel like a mature show has to have a grounding in reality. I don’t want to spend thirty minutes intervals watching assholes act like three year olds and whining over petty crap. Most adults have more pressing matters to deal with, so these kinds of stories just come off as insulting to our intelligence.

One of the biggest things that annoyed me about the live action PPG is that being a POC and a lesbian are both things given to Buttercup. She stands out as existing only for 'woke' points. It would've been different and worked way better if say, Bubbles was white, Blossom was Latina, and Buttercup was black, and Bubbles was pan, Blossom was straight (or hell, asexual), and Buttercup was a lesbian. If one girl is going to stand out, they should stand out equally, for lack of a better term because as sentient science experiments, there really is no reason for just Buttercup to be a person of color. It makes sense for them to either be all the same like in the cartoon or all mixed up like in my proposal. Going half way is just bad writing imo

I listened to a reading of the leaked script and it was pretty bad. 1) The plot was too nonsensical. The girls said they didn't like fighting crime, but if they did nothing the monsters would have just wrecked the town. They were never forced to fight crime they chose to. 2) It was too meta and self-referential. Meta jokes should be quick throw-away gags. Here the professor has a character bible for the girls and they have to follow the character bible. They said they had a cartoon made about them. 3) They made Buttercup a lesbian just because she is a tomboy. Not saying tomboyish lesbains don't exist but its a tad sterotypical. I think they should have made Blossom or Bubbles lesbain if they wanted to change their sexuality.

The problem with remakes is that they always make it something dark or something woke or modern society. Powerpuff girls is a light hearted show about little girls saving the world with their ablities, why make it something about woke culture, add lore and make it, just plain dislikable? Like you are removing the qualities that this show has, I don't need forced representation that y'all woke modern people do.

But if it HAD to be dark, you have to really really REALLY know what you're doing--otherwise it'll be a flop.

My main problem is the reason why they made the cartoon based off of the live action one. They clearly wanted to make jabs at it by saying it's racist because the cartoon made Buttercup and the professor white and also calling it homophobic because Buttercup was clearly straight in the cartoon but clearly gay in "real life".
Also why specifically Buttercup is the gay black woman? I don't care that they changed the girls race or sexuality but Buttercup is known in the cartoon for not being the smartest of the girls and very short tempered. She's also the most violent of the 3 and the grossest one. So why is she the black gay one?

I highly 100% agreed with what you said. I feel like they tried to make money off based on the original version and make it look "the best" live-action but no, they don't realize how the fans' feelings about these remakes. They don't realize how much the fans love the shows so much during their childhood and being part of their lives. Plus, who asks you they want a live-action off from the original version? NOBODY! Just leave the classic shows alone and create your own show. 🙄🙄 One thing I want to talk about is that I'm happy about is that Avatar creators left the Netflix project because they don't like their ideas I believe and I heard that Netflix is aiming for older audiences rather than aiming for everyone which I feel like that's a bad move.
Anyway, I think your version is not so bad because I like you added some new characters which totally inspired by PPG. Honestly, this is what I wanted something like this rather than just making a darn live-action. At least your version is pretty much creative here compare to the CW version.
There is a way, I believe, to make PPG darker and still keep it fun. If it were up to me, I'd take it in a completely different direction (what that direction is, idk...it just wouldnt be...THIS). I only tried to rework the pieces that were given to me. I'd totally just start over, though.

I personally feel this whole show/reimagining/idea failed from the start due to one simple reason. this show wanted to be a dark, subversive, deconstruction of the powerpuff girls and wanted to ask "what would actually happen to these kids if they grow up" (along the lines of say a story like watchmen, the boys, etc) now that may sound like an interesting concept on paper but it completely misses the point of the original show. the original basis for the powerpuff girls was having these cute, adorable, little girls VIOLENTLY beat up villains, giant monsters, and the devil, that's where the comedy came from. The whole show was based around a farcical idea, the juxtaposition of cute girls beating up giant monsters, that's the point it was a comedy show (the og og pilot for the show they were called the whoopass girls and instead of chemical X it was a can of whoopass). By trying to make it a serious deconstruction you are missing the point entirely, it's like trying to do a critique/deconstruction with the looney tunes, they were never meant to be taken seriously and by doing so you miss the point of said show

I'm still not opposed to taking the PPGs seriously. I've seen it done relatively well. I just think it is SUPER easy to mess up. Like...its way easy to do it wrong that if you aren't super confident about your vision and if you miss the point of the original show entirely, you should not attempt to make it serious.
@@TheArtisticAloubell That's a good point and I agree with you on how it can be super easy to mess up/all depends on the skill of a writer, like a really hate it when writers try to deconstruct or do a "what if superman was evil?" because a majority of the time they just don't get superman or see him as "big strong man now he's evil". But at the same time writers who do get him like mark millar can do great with that concept, even multiple times (Superman: Red Son, Jupiter's Legacy)

As you re-wrote the Powerpuff Girls at the end, it got a little dark _(struck close to home for me)._ I think it would land with audiences, a lot of teens and some adults feel like they are trapped, having no life or agency, as long as you kept the kind heartedness from the original & let there be/showed that there was hope of them to take back there lives & to be there own people
Ideally yes, I would have them eventually grow to know and love themselves and have their own unique lives while also accepting that they are heroes, but their own kind of hero. X3
Anytime I think about how Warner Bros. keeps misunderstanding the original spirit of Tom and Jerry, I get reminded of how Powerpuff Girls has got it MUCH worse by people who don't understand the intended audience NOR what made the classic series so special and excellent in the first place, not helping that it was a more relatively "modern" Warner/Cartoon Network property created in the late 90s
I totally agree! Though i don't think a dramatic PPG is impossible, it's just SO easy to mess up. Like...even the PPG movie got quite dark and dramatic and it was really effective. I've seen some more serious/dramatic PPG fan content that was quite good, but it absolutely HAS to be done by fans who understand the original show. Otherwise... you get Powerpuff 😤

You mentioned the live action Winx Club (which I've heard about but never dared to watch). Would you be willing to go over the classic first three seasons of Winx Club? There's many fan fics of it, but I'd like to see what you think and what bothers you most about it.
I haven't watched the Winx Club in quite a few years and I would need to rewatch it to know if there were any issues I had with it. I watched it up until the season with the witch who had an evil book she used for her schemes. I believe its the season that Bloomix was introduced that I stopped watching. All I remember is that the quality of the show dipped down for me after the Believix season (even the Believix season was pushing it for me). I enjoyed the first 3 or 4 seasons of Winx, but then it started to feel like the writing became more juvenile and aimed towards younger kids. Apparently that's exactly what happened as the producers wanted to appeal to a younger audience.
In any case, I don't remember enough details about Winx to dedicate a full video about it. I would legitimately have to rewatch it which I don't have the time or motivation to do atm. Maybe one day I will...we'll see!

I think the premise idea is good too, the problem was just the execution. There are lots of potentials they could go with it as well. I really love your rewrite of the premise, it makes a lot more sense than remaking it and character assassinating Professor Utonium. If you want to have a character similar to another, yet be different at the same time, make an original character.
Coming from your premise, it would actually be a twist if it was Drake (I’m not gonna call him Professor Utonium cause it would be insulting the actually good professor) who actually created the cartoon villains to life in order to get the Powerpuff girls back (it just took a long time because the villains are so complex and powerful to create).
I can’t wait for your video on Powerpuff Girls Z because it was a really good reimagining that I love. It’s unique enough to separate itself from the original cartoon, yet still have connections to at least know it’s still a reimagining from the original.
You actually guessed a plot point that I would have went with my premise--whether or not it was Drake who created the villains. I'm cool with him being the culprit or not--in the right hands either story could be cool X3

My idea is that Blossom is trying to create change from the inside of Town Hall as a mayoral candidate, Buttercup follows their father's footsteps and becomes a scientist, and Bubbles becomes a kindergarten teacher, and because of their busy lives they haven't seen their father or each other in years except for over the phone or on video chat until a mysterious note shows up inviting them back to their childhood home where they find the Professor missing.

My favorite thing about the PPG, is that it broke the mold at the time. Yes, you had wonder woman, bat girl, and others. But the three girls were unsuspecting. You look at them and think: "Oh! They're harmless"! But it's not quite the case- they're cute AND kick butt! The best example that a cute, girly heroine, can still kick butt and take names. You don't have to be big and strong to be a tough hero, they took that flipped it on its head.

Honestly, the only way I can see PPG working as live action show is something in terms like Full House or ALF, cheesy sitcom where we are aware that many situations are overly exaggerated but still funny and cute. Profesor Utonium could be more of the focus as the single father of the three superhero girls (don't change their age!) and we could use characters from the original cartoon. But PPG never were meant to be live action show, maybe one movie or special would work, but not this pice of garbege CW try to sell to the fans.

I don't think it's inherently the CW that's the problem--nor is it the concept of the show. If someone at the CW was legitimately a fan of the original PPG and knew what made it special, they likely could have done a good job (or a good enough) job with this. But since that seems to not be the case, everything has to be made basically in the same dreary, edgy, teen drama way...the lack of originality is frustrating.

To reinforce the idea that bad faith reboots are just as shite as poorly executed live action reboots,
- Thundercats Roar
- Teen Titans Go (I suppose this one wasn't exactly in poor taste, but both the show itself *and* a handful of it's viewers began molding the energy around the show to be as much)
- She-ra: Princesses of Power (Yet another one that might not have been in poor taste, if not for the energy surrounding the show and how the creators spoke about the original series)
- I'd add the most recent He-man reboot in here too, if not because of how its creator spoke about it, then for the controversy surrounding it leading to how the energy surrounding the show was enough to give people whiplash.
People get their hands on an old show and they're expected to at least respect what was done before that point, but there are always people who will openly and vocally make fun of the way original material was made or how it was written because they personally didn't like it. It's happened with comic books, movies, shows, etc. People who actually like the newer reboots will hide behind the argument that critics are too opinionated, but if they genuinely believe it's better, then they seem to conveniently forget that that itself is a matter of opinion. Most just don't appreciate being told by someone who's banking on their pre-existing fandom that the thing they're a fan of isn't as good as the thing they're making.
For the she ra remake, it was more in tone with sailor moon with a bit of korra

Okay, so take this with a grain of salt because I write fanfic. But I enjoy when there is a healthy mix of dark moments and the original style in things like this.
Look up CW Monster High fanfic. It is perfect representation for what I mean. The characters are themselves, just with darker moments, they curse at moments where anyone would curse, it’s funny. The trick is finding a balance with everything, and keeping what made people like the show in the first place.
Point is, a live action remake has the POTENTIAL to be super, or had. If they do it with a balance of everything.

We really need to take to consideration who the show is made for. Let's talk about the animated remake. True, I don't like it. But being born in 1990, I watched ppg from the very beginning and enjoyed every second of it. Now the generation is different. I hate admitting that I'm old but 8 year old kids now have nothing in common with 8 year olds in 1998. Which is not bad, just a fact. So I kind of expected not to like it even before I watched it. The live action remake on the other hand... You (the writer) need to know that if you're doing a show for adults, those are the same adults that were kids in 1998, so keep it similar to the original, because when nostalgia kicks in people are very sensitive. With that being said, I love your version of the story. Now a bit off topic but I would love to read a fantasy book series written by you. 😉

Oh my gosh that beginning! YES!! There will never be a time when I stop enjoying things that are vibrant and colourful. Stop trying to be dark and edgy - we want to see what's on the screen.
One look at the actors for the reboot and I'm already sure that its gonna be woke boring bullshit. Buttercup is now a lesbian African woman and of course she and Blossom are wearing business suits.

not to mention the race lifting of the powerpuff girls themselves! aren't they supposed to be sisters? (which is why people complained about the anime)
@@fatimahanwaar306 you actually get over them not being sisters fairly quickly in the anime lol. It mostly becomes a non issue since they still have a really solid bond. Besides, it's a different interpretation of the show and doesn't need to be 100% like the original. But unlike this live action show (that thankfully isn't happening) PPGZ still had the spirit of the OG show and respected it whereas the live action show seemed to spite it a bit.
