Very nice achievement. A small question about this kit, is it ready for assembly at the reception?
Is there any machining to be done on the parts delivered in this kit? I am interested in this machine but I can not find information on the level of difficulty to mount this kit.

It requires a fair bit of machining, it is supplied as castings and bar stock. Not too difficult but will take some time to complete.

That is very clever, really, but rather expensive given what’s available for sale, don’t you think?

Very flawed design with no lift on the return stroke and no stroke adjustment.

That’s not the point, it was an interesting project and it is very portable.

Hello Mike, Yes they are expensive and yes it does drag on the backstroke. In practice this is not a problem; six months on and I am still using the same all hard Eclipse blade. The best bit is I made it and unlike the Chinese band saw I had when space was not an issue I didn’t have to rework it to get it to cut straight. I disagree with it being a poor design as it fists in small space cuts stock square and sits happily on a shelf above my metal store. I did look at the commercial options first and they are all either very bulky and heavy or have limited capacity. But then again I have made my own tool and cutter grinder together with a host of other equipment, most of which I could have bought for less than the cost of making. Perhaps I need to get out more?

Simon Birt it’s great that you’re pleased with it, it fits your needs and that’s what counts. But I could not justify the price for that. If it were half to maybe two thirds the price I could, but not at that steep for a kit I have to assemble.

It’s a bit more than an assembly job. The kit is bar stock and raw castings, arround 200 hours work.

Frightfully more expensive than the Indian homebrew examples made from scrap wood, superglue and underpowered ,small DC motors, yet this saw has the same major failing: The teeth ride on the work during the return stroke. This is devastating to the sharpness, temperature and life of the blade. In addition, having minimal adjustment to the stroke means that much of the blade is wasted as it will wear in a small section for most work. For the asking price (£392.50 = US$502), this is very poor design.
