I love it when she realizes Flor fitted the jacket for her, moving the buttons, and that was all she needed, a positive encouragement
Yes! This entire scene is everything you could hope for in an interaction with your children and someone you have caring for them. ❤️❤️❤️
😊😊😊

@@dotesnstuff6332 exactly! I like to pretend she didn't exist. 🤦🏾♀️🤣🤣🤣🤣
She let the seams out, she did more than that. She re-sewed that entire jacket for her. That's love.
The cruelty of her own mother contrasted with the compassion and empathy of Flor is truly startling 💞

I cried so hard during this scene. She was just learning herself and she tried to do something nice for her. It made her feel good and it’s so cute. Spanglish is the best Adam Sandler movie. You will cry.
I completely forgot he was in this movie.
Adam Sandler as the leading man? 🤨🤣. Who did the casting director say no to?
@@calfencer More like, what vacation did they offer Sandler this time? 😂
This and 50 first dates are the best Sandler flicks imo.
It's this and The Cobbler for me
As a daughter who was bought "motivation jeans" this scene made me cry.
I can empathize with you so much. I was the only girl with two older brothers. If we had pizza and I wanted a 2nd slice, I would be told “No. Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels” by an overweight non-present single mother. Nothing I ever did was good enough. Not even after I had twin sons (they run rampant in my entire extended family so it was bound to happen to one of us). Her first grandchildren and nothing I did was right. I wanted to get a secondary education after my boys were teenagers but was told that they need to come first. I should be there to cook dinners and do their laundry. Coming from a mother who has never done anything like that for her own children. It’s just unbelievable how mothers damage their daughters mental health and cannot see the error of their ways; even if it’s brought up to them. It’s “lies” or “manipulative behavior” for attention. Until my husband started to get into the mix and was not subtle about her behavior, she was beyond relentlessly abusive; mentally, physically and emotionally. My brothers could do no wrong. To this day! She actually lives with her favorite son who has no children. Her oldest son has 2 children as well, but we all know she would not share him with his wife who my mother actually hates.
I vowed to not be, and wasn’t, that type of hurtful mother.
If only they cared enough to really understand the immense trauma they caused. 💔🙈
OMG me too!
And I watched this movie with my mom!
She apologized, we cried and hugged....
We're so much better now!
I’m sorry you went through that. I hope you are now wearing whatever the eff you fancy.

I was pleasantly surprised of how enjoyable Spanglish was. Definitely watch it. Funny and sweet. Cast is great. First time seeing actress Paz Vega and she was wonderful.
She was really good playing opposite Morgan Freeman in a movie called 10 items or less.
Can't understand why she didn't make it big she's beautiful and very talented.
She was great in The Messenger as an elegant and sulfurous wife of a convicted narcodealer that helped a journalist reval CIA scandal. True story.
When I first saw the movie, I believed she was Penelope Cruz! 🥴🤣

It's not the body, it's the clothes that need to change
Aww she was such a sweet woman to that sweet girl whose mom was so cruel to her. When you have a mom thats mean to you and belittles you, you need someone like that in your life. Trust me
my moms best friend would take me clothes shopping and would fiddle with things and fix them and made me feel so special, my mom would just yell, i dont care how it looks, does it fit or do you need a bigger size, as usual.. i was a normal sized little girl. i love my moms best friend so much, i cant stand my mother, often ask my "aunt (as i call her)" how her mom and her are even friends, like how did that happen cause they are two very different humans.
Ditto. Trust me. ❤
@@hollyshaw-elliemaewhat did she say? How are they friends?
I’m a curious cat 😊
This scene is an example of how easy it is to be decent to kids. It doesn’t matter if they’re not exactly how you want them to be, they just want you to love them as they are.
I loved their relationship - definitely cried a few times throughout this movie

In case you needed to hear this today... the clothes need to fit YOU, you don't need to fit INTO the clothes ❤
Exactly!❤
Size? What’s a size?? There’s too little fabric, too much, or just the right amount. Buy the one with the right amount to fit how YOU like it.
Numbers are made-up.
What? If you're 150kg overweight, you don't think that's a problem?
Meaning... What, exactly?
I know you wrote this over a month ago but I just wanted to say; I needed to hear this. I was buying jeans just now and I always put that off because I hate it. They never fit, the size is always bigger then I want no matter how hard I try to tell myself 'a number doesn't mean anything'.. I had two jeans that fit but one was fitting tightly and uncomfortable though it looked good, and the other one was fitting good and felt like I could move around in them (something I need for myself and for work!) So I sat in the dressingroom scrolling when I saw your comment and decided instantly to pic the jeans that fitted comfortably and left the store with them right away!
This is such a sweet movie. Adam Sandler plays such a decent & loving human being. It's rare that people do the decent thing, in spite of their feelings!
That was my favorite part of the movie. It helped her confidence so much to fit the jacket so she continued to exercise and eat healthy.
This hits home! ❤
No that's not what happened she knew that she altered the jacket she was happy that someone didn't care about her size and just wanted to make her happy
@@victoriavillegas5658thank you! Her body wasn't wrong.
❤❤❤
@@victoriavillegas5658Aw that’s actually so cute and a much better message
Her mom was sooo evil for that kind of abuse. I grew up with that stuff too it stays with you forever. Remember that when you go to criticize your kids..just don't.
I mean. You should be able to critizice (edit: CRITIQUE) your Kids.
But there is a difference between a critic and parental bullying.
@lilysnape6520 it's a power differential like no other. Please consider asking and listening then explaining your perspective and why. If it's because your need to control their behaviour & direction then please see a family therapist.
@@lilysnape6520 There is zero reason to criticize your kids. You should be able to *critique* your kids, not criticize.
@@s0nicfreak wait there is a difference?
In German it's the Same Word so I got Mixed Up as it seems
@@LaSorciereFeuillue Answered that to another one. In Germany critizise and critique are the Same Word.
That's why I used bullying for the different Situation
For me a critique (right Word??) Is "This top Looks a Bit tight. Maybe a size bigger would fit more comfortably. '' - in a nice Tone - Not using Body shaming as a reason.
Bullying (critizising???) Would be "that does Not fit you. You need Something bigger because you are to big"
I really loved this movie it really shows that a little love and compassion can be transformative.
Téa Leoni, Adam Sandler, and Paz Vega were brilliant in Spanglish. It's a great film!
Spanglish is a great movie! “WELL I QUIT THIS JOB! Sorry, that was meant for someone else.” A great look at family dynamics.
As someone who’s overweight trying on clothes felt terrible for so long and always left me feeling awful about myself. My peers got to wear trendy forever 21 clothes. While I had to wear clothes that looked like they belonged to a secretary or sweats and sweatshirts. As I got older though more plus size clothes became available and it was such a boost. I remember crying in a dressing room because I felt pretty for the first time probably since elementary school.
I was never overweight, but many styles don't fit my body, as I'm very short, very short waisted, and there's a 2+ size difference between my hips/thighs and waist. I know the struggle of not being able to find well fitting clothes off the rack. Most fashion trends aren't for everyone. Find what makes you look good, and more importantly, what makes you feel good about yourself. Clothes should not be allowed to make us feel bad. We've given them too much power when they do. ❤❤❤
Same. I'm 5'10" and puberty gave me a lot of curves in all directions. I grew up being the skinny feral kid, and then middle school hit and suddenly I wasn't human anymore. I hated trying on clothes, I never could wear what the other girls did. The lack of options and constantly being mistook for a mom in her 30s (while I was in hs) drove me into an ED. And I HATE that it worked to a certain affect, I finally recovered last year and about cried when I tried on clothes I had been too afraid to wear at 230lbs and found they looked fine on me. Finding things that fit is so important for plus size women!
I always had to wear big jackets and sweaters because my pants would never fit over my body Without my butt crack showing,,,😭😭😭 Whoever made low rise jeans the standard for teenagers can go straight to hell!
OMG and yes to dressing like a secretary I'm crying, like I just wanted to wear a pair of jeans ,,cuz I'm wearing these sweaty black office slacks with sneakers 💀💀💀
@@SusieQ3 I am the complete opposite i am tall though half my body is more hourglass and the other side is straight as a pole due to curved back and my arms and legs are longer than normal so everything is either too short or because of my not so normal long legs stuff looks weird.
The cutest "okaaay!" I have ever seen 😂
I almost cried watching this the first time. It was such a sweet, nice gesture.❤
This was such a great scene and brought me to tears. My Abuelita would make alterations on my clothes when i was a little girl if they didn't fit.

Adam Sandler NOT being obnoxious / annoying. Excellent movie!!!
Any movie Adam Sandler does is relatable to the masses in some way.
I’m really impressed with Adam. The Sandman seems like such a genuinely nice guy. I watched his Kennedy Center award thing earlier this year. And I liked him before I watched it then a developed a hard crush on him afterwards.
This one more than most, I think. But it sadly doesn't get brought up in the "Hey, you know what Sandler was really good in?" discussion.
I know you meant well. And I love Adam Sandler. But that's not true. Bedtime Stories? Grown Ups? 51 First Dates? And whatever that movie is called where he's a Jewish gem collector/seller who is actually in debt. Or the movies with Jennifer Aniston where they solve the mystery
@@rae9882
Just because you didn’t like something doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable to other people. Everyone has different tastes and everyone has the right to enjoy different things. And to be honest you claim to love Adam but yet hated a big amount of his movies. I loved Uncut Gems. It was INCREDIBLE. The first Grownups was a fun movie that was extremely nostalgic since it referencing a lot of things from my childhood. And it was 50 First Dates. Not 51 First Dates. And that was a beautiful story. I would love to have someone care enough about me to put in the work to put in the effort everyday to make me fall in love. And I will give you Jack and Jill oh my god it was horrible. Grownups 2 wasn’t nearly as fun. Bedtime Stories was a good movie for what it was. A fun way to kill a afternoon. And I thought The Cobbler was actually a amazing movie. And let’s just forget about The Zohan Weather your a real fan or someone who poses as a real fan. Don’t discredit his work. Adam has been making movies my whole adult life. And yes not every movie was a masterpiece. But really I’m not a fan expecting to see a award winning movie every picture he puts out. But expecting to be entertained and shown something that will make me happy, or feel warm and fuzzy.
I pretty much agree but the first thing that popped in my head was little Nicky and Billy Madison and now I’m cracking up imagining those movies being relatable to someone 😂😂😂
"OKAY!" 😂😂😂 so sweet
Something about that little girl- her braces, her expressions. What a sweetie.
This is a movie I can watch over and over. It's such a little gym. A great ensemble piece. Cloris Leachman's mother role is very special.

Cloris Leachman stole this as a drunk MIL.
She was just brilliant. Will never forget her in this. She got the best lines. “Lately your low self esteem is just good common sense.”
@@anitas5817She was great. When she stopped her daughter at the truck, gave her the business, and then turned. It was great. 😊
I feel like the words " ok," at the end, really meant that she's trying to hold back tears. Like any maternal figure. Hold back an "I love you," because servitude, providing, and feeding is the way to express I love you. The okay was like, "good, then you are taken cared of," or "I'm.glad I can help.i don't want to see you go without,"
My mom watched this in silence with me. She usually doesn't like Western movies but she loved this one especially the mom's reply to her daughter saying she needs space.
