Was like walking around a world war 1 no man's land with the main village being at the top of a mountain of mud which we literally didn't find untill the Sunday night although the last part was probly more my bad
This all sounds amazing Tarmac is amazing and much needed. Not sure how my boots survived! Walking to the village etc was such hard work. shorter walk (particularly from car to campsites) is ideal, my feet and back (as I come with a rucksack) are very thankful! Bigger merch stalls is great (I missed an entire set- I think it was skindred) because of queues More seating is great. When the weather is bad, it's almost impossible to get but it's much needed respite, trekking through knee deep mud. And you obviously can't sit on the floor. Also read that there's a bigger 4th stage which is good as there's always people outside who can't get in Good that co op is back, a very good addition that was Made me even more excited for download now 😁

I'm loving the idea of an 'unsinkable village' and the campsites being closer to the car parks. I also like the fact the campsites have been moved which might result in less complaints about the DHL sponsored alarm clock. Knowing our luck after all these new plans being drawn up there'll be no rain and it will be a Dustload like 2018.

The large tarmac area is where the second stage was in 2008 (where ginger from the wildhearts caught the egg) it it worked well but the camping was the other side of the track so was a long walk . shame the main stage cannot go back in the center of the track whrere all the history was throught the dacades , Also therer should be a cinema showing past proformances from the 80's 90's 00's 10's of bands.that would be cool.

It would never happen but I have dreamt of Download on the Road through Great Britain spinoff mini festivals - in the lead up to Download or after Download not just in europe. So Wales for example - Cardiff Castle apparently can hold 10,000 people (the stadium holds 80,000 but thats not an outdoors festival then) One stage - a few stalls, a few bands over a 3 day weekend and then one in Scotland, maybe one in London and maybe Ireland. Maybe just no camping. So you either stay in a hotel, travel home each day or find some other place to stay (though there is a camping site 8 minutes drive away/ 21 min walk away, dump you stuff at the site, walk to venue and back at night after the gig or transport back there ) or just do one day only. They can have that idea for free though I am sure they have already thought about it and obviously Donington would still be the main one with the Biggest acts. I get it though costs and logistics renders this idea probably not worth it or useless. But Imagine 3 Mini Downloads (Wales, Scotland and England) and One big one (Donington) to go to maybe Ireland as well.
All these new plans look and sound amazing! I’m so excited🤘it’s gonna make SUCH a massive difference, especially if the weather is bad again. Less walking - especially from car park to campsite and from the village to the arena is a blessing!! It’s so good how the organisers take on all the issues and try to improve them. It’s clear the fans/festival goers come first which really means a lot. Roll on DL2020! 🖤⚡️
The reason our group isn't returning this year for the first time since 2005 was because of last years carpark/walk/village cluster fuck and booked an alternative holiday instead but kodus to you guys for sorting it and now we're already talking about returning 2021! Well done guys. Hope this year's layout is a success
YES, YES, YES AND YES!!! EVERYTHING J.P said made total sense and nipping these future problems in the bud now is just smart. End of. The Village (and Takeover!) are honestly the highlights of my Downloads, and being able to wear trainers at night instead of having wellies on 24/7 is a big improvement in itself - let alone the fact it's waterproof! After last years complete washout, regardless of the weather, it's just nipping future problems again. We'll all miss the old layout when it's sunny, but we'll all welcome it with open arms every time it rains. So it's a win! Improved routes, Improved parking, Improved drop offs, Everything is better. How can anyone be mad at this!? 10/10. We love you guys!
Now all they need to do is bring back the bar tokens instead of the stupid buy a plastic cup idea and using cash at the bars then maybe just maybe more then 100 people can get a drink without waiting an hour and a half, never seen queues at the bar until they brought that crap cup idea in, sort it out download

Should be good. Forgetting just how underwater the village was, the general layout just felt alien to me and had no desire to frequent the village. Never even looked at it the whole weekend. Hopefully this year will be an improvement. It was good for a few years there, and then 2019 was awful. Weather was a chunk of that though, of course.
The village in 2019 was so disappointing. I had no desire to visit other than to buy essentials once - spent the rest of the time at the tents. Which was cool, just disappointing that the village wasnt up to its' usual fantastic standard
Funny you say that as I've been a load of times and 19 was the only year I never bothered with the Village. Might have been the mud for the most part but I normally send a good amount of time in there even in past wet years. I didn't even go in the CoOp at all for some reason. I guess there was no need for ice for the beers.
Hearing that there gonna be more on hard core is amazing. Theres a lot of people who struggle to deal with the mud when they are unstable on their feet. My biggest concern is those in RIP it was a brutal walk to get the stuff to the campsite last year. Taking just short of 40 mins round trip if you paid for the pre-done accommodation (we paid £1000+ per person) walking for 3 hours in the pissing rain to get your stuff from the car to a campsite was a piss take. They put shuttles on eventually but I definitely left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth. You keep expanding everything then you best keep making it worth the cost which keeps going up.
Ironknights Gaming yeah, walking under the Dunlop bridge and looking at the stalls...then down in to the arena which was like a natural amphitheatre with the slope up to the side of the track..much better in those days.
Looks like a massive improvement. Last year's redesign was definitely a trial by fire (and it burned to the ground) but as you said, it wasn't all the weather. This redesign looks like a huge step up. Hopefully there'll be less issues this year and iterating on this design will be enough
Great to hear this. Good to see changes being made even if it's not perfect. Trying to make positive changes is what we are asking. Keep aiming to be the best it can be. Fast queues, less walk and more options for food, drinks in the shops and bands. You get that right the rest is secondary. Keep going with this
I’m sick of the bar queues! Missed whole band sets last year just waiting the bar queue. So, bring back the beer tokens! You can make them recyclable, and they turn what is currently a 2-3 minute cash/ credit card transaction into a 5 second transaction. No one cares about minor differences in the price of drinks. Standardise the pricing, reduce the complexity (no cocktails or mixers!), ale, lager, cider and wine is all you need. This will decimate the bar queues and you’ll probably sell more beer. Win win!
I liked the cocktails, but I usually went for the separate stands for them as these had less queue. And I am pretty sure the reason for this was that people don't usually buy cocktails. So at the main bar I am not sure if the line was long due the cocktails. In the end, they should be removed from the main bars, and the separate stands could be kept. Its a win win. I have not used the tokens before but what other festivals usually have is a prepaid wristband. Its pretty commonly used. You top up money and you pay at the bar with a touch in two seconds... but, perhaps in the UK this would be hard to achieve?
oszaszi they tried the top up wrist bands one year and it worked really well as an attempt to go cash free and avoid theft, but a number of people had big problems ( not sure what exactly) and they abandoned it the following year. The bar issue came mainly when Carlsberg took over from Tuborg and introduced too much choice and the long cash/ contactless transaction bar queues followed. The tokens were great cause you bought them separately in bulk (still a quick transaction as the only thing you’re buying is tokens) and then it’s just one token per drink. Simples...
It was the best when the stage was within the track and the village stalls were lined along the track. Interesting changes but in nearly 20 years there isn't a solid plan as it changes nearly every year. The dates for next year put me off, they're pretty much May. Can't it be moved into the summer?

If I get RIP, I can still party at the village and return to RIP campsites anytime? Also, can hang out with my friends in the normal campsites and is there a time limit on this? I like to have a nice bed for the evening but lets be fair, Village is where you want to be at Wednesday and Thursday. :D By the way, this organizer looks like he puts a lot of effort and heart into this event. Should be very proud. I went last year from Switzerland and I promoted it to my coworkers and they come this year too :D There were some crappy things, but every festival has some ups and downs. Nice to see they looked at the feedback. Keep up guys!
Thank you for being honest (because last years village was a bit shit) and for continuing to do what is best for everyone. This will be my 7th year and I am as excited for this one as I was for my first, possibly more so now that I know that these changes will be put in place. Keep it up and see you there.
Well at least now we don't have to deal with potholes when walking to the campsites, so hopefully no more toppling trolleys and suitcases. Also means hopefully wheels won't come off of people's trolleys, felt so bad for people last year that lost their wheels
The caravan / campervan field was not mentioned. Having tractors dragging you in and out. With the village moved will there be a cut though or will the 1hr walk each way now be a 2hr walk each way. Can a map be released on the website for the campervan location plus access paths to the Village. Having the village on hard standing can only be a good thing, as long as its not adding miles to the walk of those of us who are less able and need a caravan or campervan to be able to attend.
Need campsites a lot closer to venue and car parks and if it has to be far a car service bus to take u back and to to the venues. Walking 45 mins just to get into bands is way too long!
All good and proper. HOWEVER. as a member of staff, where are you putting our campsite? We used to be at the bottom of the now transport hub with West Carpark next to us. Now that it is going to be general camping, we will NOT want to be next to 60,000 very loud drunk people. Some of us will be working 12 hour+ shifts.
I want to know where they are parking RIP. My biggest dig with Download right now is that they are making the majority happy and making the minority, the ones who work for them, the ones who pay extra for the expensive camping, happen to be the ones who get left in the dark or with the worst options. 2016 my first year in RIP was amazing the car was in the field opposite us with access throughout the festival. Which was amazing when we all started melting and we forced a party member to be sober to go get ice/water/other required supplies. Please remember that whilst your main numbers are made up with regular campers with out the work force theres no festival and the extra paid prices from RIP often paying 2 or 3 times the regular price for the same thing tends those with higher standard who will make a big fuss for the problems that you haven’t fixed

If anyone reading the comments is a wheelchair user and been to Donington I would appreciate your views, I'm a wheelchair user and thought about going to this for years but always put myself off it because of getting around and what the view is like etc.. got to be honest, being an old fart I wish it was still Monsters Of Rock, Download just doesn't have the same ring to it lol
What about disabled people who want to move from stage to stage? Last time we attended was 2012 and we were told by security if we left the platform he couldn't guarantee we would be allowed back on! The arena itself gets so bad with mud that it's near impossible to comfortably move around. I know you cant help the weather but providing a shuttle bus between stages and having disabled platforms big enough to accommodate ALL disabled ticket holders at any given time should also be looked at. A strict 1 disabled ticket holder and carer policy should also be installed when using the platforms as again the last time we were there we got refused access because the platform was full due to security allowing 1 disabled person and their entire family on. We loved the people and vibe at download but your treatment of disabled people disappointed us
Ooo wait what about pitching a tent next to your car then maybe bringing your own beer into the arena or even being able to bring your own food in in an eskie and use that to sit on . Oh sorry that was the 80’s and 90’s things have progressed since then . NOT!!!!
Glad things are changing from last year but this bloke seems to radiate the negative impression we paying attendees get from most of the site staff. Interrupting the people that are paying to go there, talking over them, ignoring their comments and generally talking and acting like it's all being made up as he goes along... Let's hope download do actually listen in 2020 instead of their usual money grabbing, people herding tactics.
Spent a good amount of time on G earth to get the bearings of the new site. I approve of the layout if I camp far west. Don't approve if I came N.E, long walk for that one. Last year a was a broken dishwasher (badly designed and wet af) so of course this looks like an improvement. How much recon has been done on the new campsite, can they take the vast influx of people, can they take the strain of the GB weather? Pitch a tent on the wettest day of the year in all new camp sites. Plan for drownload and we should survive it.

I want to know where they are parking RIP. My biggest dig with Download right now is that they are making the majority happy and making the minority, the ones who work for them, the ones who pay extra for the expensive camping, happen to be the ones who get left in the dark or with the worst options. 2016 my first year in RIP was amazing the car was in the field opposite us with access throughout the festival. Which was amazing when we all started melting and we forced a party member to be sober to go get ice/water/other required supplies. Please remember that whilst your main numbers are made up with regular campers with out the work force theres no festival and the extra paid prices from RIP often paying 2 or 3 times the regular price for the same thing tends those with higher standard who will make a big fuss for the problems that you haven’t fixed
Last year was particularly muddy and also a complete logistical nightmare nothing seemed to be layout with any sort of logic

Its their 50th anniversary, and it's 2 weeks after download.
Tbf I think they aren't saying anything because they are waiting to be cancelled so they can claim insurance.

If anyone reading the comments is a wheelchair user and been to Donington I would appreciate your views, I'm a wheelchair user and thought about going to this for years but always put myself off it because of getting around and what the view is like etc.. got to be honest, being an old fart I wish it was still Monsters Of Rock, Download just doesn't have the same ring to it lol

What about disabled people who want to move from stage to stage? Last time we attended was 2012 and we were told by security if we left the platform he couldn't guarantee we would be allowed back on! The arena itself gets so bad with mud that it's near impossible to comfortably move around. I know you cant help the weather but providing a shuttle bus between stages and having disabled platforms big enough to accommodate ALL disabled ticket holders at any given time should also be looked at. A strict 1 disabled ticket holder and carer policy should also be installed when using the platforms as again the last time we were there we got refused access because the platform was full due to security allowing 1 disabled person and their entire family on. We loved the people and vibe at download but your treatment of disabled people disappointed us
if Glastonbury festival cancelled this year's show there is no chance in hell Download festival is happening, Cancel the show

Glad things are changing from last year but this bloke seems to radiate the negative impression we paying attendees get from most of the site staff. Interrupting the people that are paying to go there, talking over them, ignoring their comments and generally talking and acting like it's all being made up as he goes along...
Let's hope download do actually listen in 2020 instead of their usual money grabbing, people herding tactics.
Spent a good amount of time on G earth to get the bearings of the new site. I approve of the layout if I camp far west. Don't approve if I came N.E, long walk for that one.
Last year a was a broken dishwasher (badly designed and wet af) so of course this looks like an improvement.
How much recon has been done on the new campsite, can they take the vast influx of people, can they take the strain of the GB weather? Pitch a tent on the wettest day of the year in all new camp sites. Plan for drownload and we should survive it.
