.............................................................................................
This well-preserved 1960 Pontiac Parisienne was recently discovered (December 2018) in an old garage in Riverdale, Toronto.
It had been parked there - unloved, unwashed and unused - since 1970. The video shows the day of its extraction (exhumation?). Let's hope this "barn find" gets a nice restoration.
OK Folks, I'm the owner of the beautiful 1960 Parisienne. I had a great laugh about some of the comments but I haven't visited this post for about 3 years. First off, I put on the chrome wheels just to get it out. As some correctly deduced, the originals were flat. I did state this in the video. Second, I didn't try to start the engine because the gas in the tank was putrid, seriously! It was almost syrupy! Thirdly, I am not watching too much TV. When I went to see the car for the first time, we opened the garage doors and O crawled under the car with my flash light. Believe it or not, the old car had been Ziebarted! The undercarriage was impeccable! That's why I jumped at buying it. It is pristine! When I got the car home I wondered if it would start. I tried to turn it over by hand, but it didn't budge. I took out the plugs and sprayed "Sea Foam" into each cylinder. The next day, with a gerry-rigged gas can, it turned over. I primed it again and started! That was amazine! I have since had the car repainted the original colour. I did not put the original rims back on. I found some sweet chrome spoke wheels and she is looking awesome. When the pandemic has finally run its course, I'm looking forward to showing the old gem off at a few car shows!
Thanks for the update. I would have likely bought this car but being three hours away and unable to see it killed any desire to own it. My luck it would have been rusty underneath, I am glad it worked out for you.
Put up a video about it!!!
In one word "LOVE". late 50's early 60's Pontiac were really something special.
My Uncle Jim, bought a 1965 Pontiac Parisenne, 2dr hardtop, when he got back from the war. Buckets, Console, floor shift, 283cid V8, chevy, 2spd powerglide. Cool car!
Those old Pontiac's had such beautiful styling. My grandmother had a beautiful 1959 Pontiac Catalina. The 50's, 60's, and 70's were the best years of car design.
Yes!indeed i agree miss.
The reason Canadian Pontiacs were different was because they were built using Chevrolet frames, that were shorter wheel base than American Pontiacs and of course were set up to use Chevrolet engines. (283, 348, 327, 409, 350,396) This was between 1946 and 1968 or so because of the duty (tariff) fees on parts and components crossing the US/ Canada border. The Canadian GM factory was set up to produce Chevrolet frames, so to use Pontiac frames they would have to be imported and the extra cost would have made the Pontiacs noncompetitive price wise. In 1965 a free trade agreement was negotiated on auto parts used for assembly of new cars and the Canadian models were mostly phased out. If you want to look up some of the Canadian models they were with their Chevrolet equivalent, the Acadian, (Chevy II/ Nova) Parisienne, (Impala) Beaumont (Malibu). Ford had Canadian models as well, the Meteor, the Monarch, the Frontenach and Mercury trucks
American Pontiacs like the Bonnieville or early GTO/ Tempest were fairly rare in Canada until the end of the 1960s because they had to be imported as complete cars and had tariff fees on them making them more expensive than Canadian made Pontiacs.
I would love to see how this car is coming along! Beautiful work of art, that car!
In 1970 the Canadian Pontiacs were still Chevys under the skin. When Pontiac introduced their wide track design in the US, this did not carry over to Canada. I drove my new 1960 Ventura to Niagara Falls and Toronto in October 1960 on my honeymoon and it got a lot of looks because the wheels were out to the edge of the body. Seeing that front end really brought back memories. I hope the one in your video is restored. Keep us posted and thanks for showing it to us.
Cool car and video. My brother in law had a brown Pontiac just like this. Brings back memories. Thanks for sharing your video. I hope you have a blessed day.
Know where there is a 1960 bonneville, only only thing wrong is paint faded in spots.3500. No rust from odgen utah.
What a classic find - a lovely old beast of a car.
Wow been almost 50 years in hiding . Very neat! 👍👍
This vehicle sitting there long time 40 years need paint job new tires engine restore back on the road awesome video keep up the good work friend bless you
In 2014 I had similar luck. I became the 3rd owner of a 1965 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. This car was purchased Jan. 23, of 65, The owner died in 1967 having only driven 47,000 miles The car was kept clean and driveable but not used until his wife passed in 1979, The Cadillac dealership since purchase had been contracted to service the Fleetwood & their other Cadillac's Verified through records the unchanged milage for the 12 years showed only fluids had been changed in the life of the car, and was from tires to wiper blades as it was when it left the factory. The second owner had the car from 1979 to 2014. added 4 innertubes when the tires failed to hold air. The car was only jumpstarted driven onto a trailer re-started and driven a place at auto shows doing this added an additional 3,000 miles. After my the Third purchase I tried to replace the innertubes because tires again no longer held air, Sadly they broke into pieces, at that point I decided to put the car back on the road. I replaced Tires, Battery, Wipers, Belts, Radiator Hoses, Headlights, A 2-inch piece of vacuum hose and Spark plug wires keeping all the factory parts. I named her Lilith She's a Devil & a Temptress but drives like new. I have in 6 years taken her from 50,000 to 60,000 miles. I feel lucky to have such a treasure.
Beautiful
AMEN SISTA! January 12th. 2020...TRUMP
I never used to like 4 door cars. But lately seeing some that I would like to own
That is one 4 dr car I would love to own and drive! That car is just plain awsome looking!
Can't imagine that sat for 40 years! What a treasure!!
I would wash and detail that original paint job. You might just be surprised at how nice it looks cleaned and buffed.
While the undercarriage was in excellent shape, the paint job suffered from being sequestered for 47 years. I had to get it repainted because there were a number of ugly paint blisters on the roof, the hood, and the trunk. The body man did an excellent job of matching the new paint with the original colour.
Congrats!! My first car was a blue Pontiac Bonneville (said Grand Le Mans on inside) Station Wagon. I wish I could find that again!!
My dad had a 1960 paressiene it wasn't a flat top like that one. 283 v8 automatic power glide and it had 4 way hazard light function dealer installed in it had 73000 miles on it. That flat top brought back lots of memories.
My favorite Pontiac. I had a '60 Catalina station wagon when I was 19...
They are gorgeous. I always lusted after a 1960 Bonneville.
Edward Skaggs funny
It's a wonderful old car...❤️👏👍
That is a beautifully designed car. I love the roof lines, I think that it fits with the body lines better than the bubble top coupes. I would really like to see it when it is cleaned up and after any restoring that they do to it.
Based on the property values downtown, the empty garage could possibly sell for $1Million now also.
Looks cool even though it is a 4door. I just love the taillights and trunk lid.
I have been a car nut since birth and I too have noticed that some car designs look amazingly good in a four door....That huge wrap around rear window and over hanging rear roof line looks great.
I'm a huge Pontiac fan myself and that's a beautiful find..❤
Look at this extremely soft suspension! Today's cars are so hard and uncomfortable...
Holy shit!!! That's a huge heap of real steel right there!
Beautiful car, it would be interesting to know it’s history, and why the owner would have abandoned it, or did the owner pass away an nobody was there to take ownership, it seems that it was well taken care of at one point, I like the wheels that was put on it
Canadian Pontiacs were a little different. In some models, they have Chevrolet engines. Later on, their version of the Chevrolet Nova was called an Acadian.
ToyKingWonder Pre Auto Pact, Canadian Pontiac’s were built on Chevy chassis....the low end series were called Laurentians and the top models were Parisiennes. no wide track. Acadians were Novas and Beaumonts were Chevelles. There were Mercury trucks and Ford sold Meteors and Monarchs. Fold Falcons were called Frontenacs. Lots of unique models in those days.
Rick S I seem to recall the Vauxhall Firenza.....and lawsuits. Truly terrible cars...
Very nice and a thumbs up liked for you.
You fellas were working on strained muscles, maybe a hernia or two. Congratulations on getting the car out.
Toronto you say? Now that's a find, and she's a beauty alright.
There's no way that car has been stirring for 40+ years with those wheels and tires.
Yeah I know the guy posted the same and I had to watch the video again to pick up that they did say they had changed the wheels earlier so they could move it
Matt Josephson my point exactly!
I don't believe one second that someone would pass the chance up for Fame, 💰,Pontiac power!!! I mean this is too good to be true,"I believe it's staged!"
@@420Brew No way. Google fact checks every UA-cam video for accuracy. What you see is the Lord's truth. Those rims were part of the trailer towing package. You had to order them special, just like a COPO Camaro. That's why you didn't recognize them...they were a hubcap delete.
48 years, must be excellent condition, interesting wheels ))
The Pontiac Parisinne was the Canadian version of the Chev Impala and was produced at the Oshawa ,Ontario GM plant.
wow it looks good for the age of the car
Yes it’s huge AND looks indestructible.
The US version of this car was the Bonneville-more or less.
if you listened ,the rims was put on a week before so it would roll better, iam.sure all the tires where hard, flat and would not roll, just had to clear that up
I only wish I could be the custodian of that beautiful vehicle.
I would leave them wheels on it they suit it so well
Nice car
Give it a was and good to go 👍👍😍
I wonder why someone would abandon their garage to that lump for 49 years.
inkydoug Exactly.
I here by proclaimed Fraud lots of laughs
@@420Brew Do you think that they just took an old car and dirtied it up, borrowed a garage to put it in, then claimed it was in there since '70? I wasn't thinking that, but hey, it DID make me click, didn't it?
You got it right my friend. Even fully restored, which would cost about 50K it's still not worth bugger all. Two doors too many...not even a bit cool. Downright ugly actually ! PLUS...the whole thing is staged anyway.
Am I mistaken or are those wheels from the late 80's early 90's.
He explained in the video that they put the tires on prior to moving the vehicle. I'm sure the tires that were on there were flat and dry rotted.
Looks cool, even though it is a 4 door. I just love those taillights and trunk lid.
The wheels look good too. I'd drive that puppy in a heartbeat 💗
Joe Ford the wheels were just put on so it could roll they didn’t come with the car.
@@grandparolie I bought a Jeep truck in 92 that had what looks like the same type wheel,I know by condition of the tires they had been on the vehicle 40 years.
The 1960 Pontiac's were beautifully styled cars. Look at those rear fender spears and the rear lights moulded into the trunk. The rear window with the overhanging roofline is fantastic. This has got to be one of the most stylish American cars ever. This example is in amazing condition and a nice colour too. It's a pity about the non-standard wheels, they ruin the look. That PT cruiser won't be worth much in 40 years.
My first cousin had a 1959 pontiac parisienne convertible.
235 chevy 6cyl iron powerglide
Pontiacs didn't use chevy motors until around 1980.lol
That's an awesome find, are you going to keep it's progress updated?
Love the old Pontiacs! I’m building a 66 GTO on my channel.
Thoses are 80's rims maybe 90's it wasn't sittin' in there since the 70's.
Badass find
Hi' guys, si amazing car i liked color
Suddenly, a '64 Tempest looks like a jewel...by comparison.
What a rare and beautiful car?.
That rear windshield looks cool looks like a 60 impala
The read window looks as interesting as the windshield.
I remember the add for this car on kiijjii!!
Robert Hardwick.
Quiero encontrar una joya así
I remember only 1 of these n I was a Hawkeye fir cars as kid in North East USA..last of the Detroit muscle .hope no greed invoked n it's driving!!!!!?!!!not stored n bored .
Those rims date a lot later than the 1970's when you say it was parked?
I had to watch the video again to pick it up, but the guy said they had put the wheels on there so they could move it
QuickDraw Mcgraw I have to concur . That's the first thing I questioned.
Here is the thing most generally if and when it's a garage find the stories don't add up seemingly most of them! It's not a barn it's a garage with nothing else in it with what some may think is forty years of dust when in fact it's probably just dust mixed in with poly like dryer lint would be a great way to explain it! What they do is get a fan and wind up the dryer vent on top somewhere and over time it looks like it's bee. sitting a long time.
What people need to do is carbon work! For instance grab some tape and view in a spectrum of the particals and date them so to speak! I bet there would be lots of lawsuits because people are trying to fake expensive cars!
If the numbers match great but I don't see it being stored that long maybe 90-96..them rims are billet aluminum and them lug caps like really didn't even see them till the 90's ...tin coated caps ..lol..
Still a dreamy car.
I bet there is good reason this didn't get a second video...these old farts trying to scam some youngyion is what my opinion is
The car has 1972 or '73 license plates on it, but the wheels were definitely put on many years later.
A Parisienne is a Canadian made Pontiac.
Canadian badged, not Canadian made.
No, they were built in Oshawa, with Chevrolet chassis
Always liked the rear drip ledge above the rear window . Wonder how many were 2 door version ?
Flat top baby, it's a flat top.
Very.. Very.. Nice...!
Great find ,👍how does it look now ?
I would love to see the car restored
Thanks for that. Around that year, someone also found a brown 1960 Laurentian , last plated in 1973. What are the chances?
if a 2 door that be interesting. had 63, Chrysler n boars are boats, miss the days of these cars n cheap gas!!!!!!
Stuff like that is still out there, even in frozen Canada.
She's a beauty..
All push from different directions typical Canadian
zmbewolfable ;+}~
Yes in the USA everyone pulls together.
What’s with the Corvair taillights ?
The body looks great! How do the seats look?
Классное "точило" 👍
Any progress on the restoration?
Wow beautifl
Jackpot 👍🏻
Didn't get to see the driver's side of the car?
What do you suppose that was that the guy with the pickup, quietly picked up and slipped to his pickup bed and hid away! At. 5:17
I have a Bonneville identical to this!
That's a barge . cool for a 4 door .
Did it take that long to get it in there?
Have you guys did an updated video? if so please fill me in on this beautiful Parisian.. You got blessed that's for sure. I think I may have a new favorite classic the Catalina can get in line!
It is a Catalina
Why did they make them soo low? And why is the trunk soo long?
the trunk is longer than the front
well now, that is unique!
Nice
Cool old car but there is no way those wheels & tires been on that car since 1970!
The new owner put those on because he was going to use them on the car anyway.Had to get it home to start the build. They changed before camera started.
Super👍
Any updates on the car?
I never liked that "lip" of the roof over the back wraparound window on GM cars of this period. Not all of them had it.
It's my favourite feature!
Those wheels were they original ?? Do not seem right to me but then I am an Englishman so not an expert in any way on these beautiful cars.
Ok I have looked again and it says quite clearly not original wheels, must concentrate more !!
They didn't even try to start it. Maybe it could have run just fine!
u scratched the glass (to late)
How about removing the yuge wallet out of you back pocket too.
Chiropractors love guys like you.
God bless america
Itis avery nice model
喜欢这车❤️
Nice car needs the original hubcaps those wheels look ugly
Big boat car
You don’t have original hubcaps those aren’t even hubs looks like mag wheels We had 1960 Pontiac Bonneville when I was a kid got it in 1964 was burgundy red outside and inside 🤩
That is not bad for this age of a car.
k cosa mas guapa olee
Those wheels musta been just put on.
