Currently admits controversy over HYBE allegedly believing in a cult, Newjeans’ OMG music video has become a significant topic of discussion. During a press conference, a text message from Bang Shi Hyuk to MHJ, asking, “Are you enjoying this?” (during OMG promotions), became notable. Despite most GFRIEND members being Christian, HYBE’s alleged cult beliefs led them to make the members sing a witch’s song and disband them. Following this, LE SSERAPHIM, with an angle concept, was promoted. Moreover, it is reported that most GFRIEND members were unaware of their disbandment until it was publicly announced. With the revelation of HYBE’s cult involvement, Korean K-pop fans have been greatly shocked, yet there hasn’t been a single article on major Korean portals, indicating media control by HYBE. Additionally, while the supply of such information is rapid in Korea, it is slower abroad, and foreign opinions may be influenced by HYBE’s manipulation, making it difficult for non-Koreans or those not fluent in Korean to fully accept the information spreading in Korea as is!
This manipulation could lead to malicious translation by HYBE. I usually LOVE Newjeans songs. They're super catchy! But personally for me, this comeback just wasn't very memorable and might be my least favourite Newjeans song, alongside ASAP and you know what? That's OKAY. The instrumental and vocals are lovely tho. Sometimes not everything is perfect, no matter how much you love the artist. Maybe it's just me, but I listened to bubblegum like 5 times and it's just not sticking in my brain and I haven't been humming the melody or anything. Idk maybe much later it will hit a certain area in my brain and I'll be singing it in the shower unexpectedly. I still look forward to other future Newjeans songs tho. I personally would like to see more wild or experimental concepts because I think Newjeans could pull it off! Like a 2000s gyaru outer space concept with an electropop pluggnb type sound, or a 1990s/early 2000s American/British quirky sitcom concept with an electropop combined with 90s R&B type sound or a retro futuristic basketball concept with an 80s Brooklyn hip hop sound!
