What a fantastic collection of bits, nice to see some rare parts being used rather than just being display pieces. Great video

I wouldnt deck the block, therefore Arrow bits for me. Great set of videos.

(As original S blocks are becoming so rare apparently), then surely it would be a shame to hack 5.5 mill off the deck just to get back to the correct compression. If you’re really set on using the SA crank then please invest in some 6inch rods as well!

i would keep the 70mm crank for a already heavy milled block

I hope you used the 70mm South African crank as I’ve got one in the garage ready to go for my next engine

How am I supposed to skive off doing work when the videos are only 10 minutes long? 😂😎

Arrow Crank and rods for sure!

Worked at a Mini shop in Ramstein in the early seventies. Not much space, so the old minis were stacked on top of each other.

Steel crank as its a total waste on your balancer. If not ill find a home for it 🤣

I think this would cost a customer a fortune , lovely though all the bits are . Minis were supposed to be to get bus passengers their own transport cars for the masses. The ethos of the original Austin Seven . William Morris told Alec Issigonis I want to drive all those foreign bubble cars off the road !

id go for the Arrow crank and rods - but that's only really based on me liking shiny things :)

It’s hard to say which configuration to go for but it does seem a shame to deck that block down by that much

Use the used steel crank with new rods, that way you won't be decking the block to the point where its useless as standard in the future......

Just wondered where you send the block and casings to be chemically cleaned ?
    Many thanks

Great episode, though short! I'm staggered that unless it was for the effect of jeopardy that you precision engineers don't have a better stock management labelling system for engine blocks.

Yes it is a bit of a mess - they were sorted, then we moved, now we're mid-move again. We keep out-growing workshops!

Great video, but in some ways it would have been good to have built a 998 engine as 1275 blocks are becoming harder/expensive to find.

I vote to be "engineering sympathetic" towards the block and not heavily milling it. African Mini, African crank with 6 inch rods.

Would the 970 block potentially be for sale?

how about finding a third more standard 1275 crank and use that

Standard A+ rods limit us to the 5-port head, so we need S rods or steel to keep options open!
