Thanks for watching! We realize how horrible the lighting in this video was afterwards and did our best to correct it during editing. Hope you still enjoy & comment below if you've ever tried sticky stuff
The beard is fine, but keep it nicely trimmed (especially if going to be on coverage). A Professional disc golfer on coverage shouldn't look like he just woke up from a long weekend in Vegas.
You gotta like rub it in,. Work it into the tack with the sweat. Trevor Bower has a good vid showing how well Rosen can work. I prefer my bowling dry bag. Pine sap is pretty sticky too in a pinch. Just having a dry grip goes a ways for me but i could see on the hottest and coldest days looking for some sap off a pine. Worth experimenting
Paul you did it!!!!! Ive watched tons of videos on spin rate and sticky stuff and thought about how it could affect a disc. Thanks for making this video!
How about a 6 hole challenge with grip. Then you can monitor build up and see how long it takes to start building up and becoming an illegal disc. Per PDGA rules.
Paul, thanks for signing my cryztal Luna before your final round at the USDGC last weekend. I'm sure it meant nothing to you but it meant alot to me and I really appreciate you for it. Glad you won the tournament. Good luck the rest of the season!
That is a neat experiment . I had climbing chalk from when I used to climb & I used climbers chalk & Rosen during a torrential downpour. It worked great . Since I used it instead of the traditional bird bag or Whale sack. The surf wax seems no brainer and less messy than what the pelican looks like
I had this idea the other day wondering how much more revolutions you could get on the disc using grip enhancements that pitchers have used. Excited to see how it goes in the video. Thanks Paul
If you ever do a part II, I've seen some disc golfers use Gorilla towels on their discs at rainy tournaments. Apparently the grip is insane but good in the rain.
Honestly, if Paul had dunked on us by only uploading the commercial for Celsius, I would have had a good laugh and wouldn't have been mad in the slightest.
As someone who used rosin bags for years. I don’t understand it being considered a grip aid. It’s more like chalk when it’s in those bags and allows for clean releases but you can’t put as much on it. Just like Paul said at the end, it can take away any stickiness from other stuff. So it’s really a safe thing for pitchers to use but only after using too much sticky stuff haha
If you let the rosin from the rosin bag go on a little thick and let it dry out your hand it creates more tack than what you were experiencing, I think. I tried this but once I started using it in a round if I stopped my hand became like glue. Might be worth using through like 5 holes.
@@spakjoeXD I've had a couple whale sacs, but those don't leave anything on the disc, so they're pretty mild overall. Honestly, I find myself fanning my hand with a disc far more than reaching for the whale.
I know Ezra used a friction glove during the Vegas tourney but I think it was more to protect his skin from tearing on full power rips in the dry heat.
Have you guys ever used Dry Hands? It's chalk suspended in alcohol - the alcohol dries out your hands and makes sweat/water evaporate off it super fast, and leaves a thin chalk residue. I used to use it when I played ultimate (getting sweaty running around for 4 hours while still needing to throw a disk) - i'd put it halfway to my elbow and my hands would stay dry for at least half an hour.
My group was discussing this stuff during our round the other day. Great vid. I was wondering since you aren't supposed to modify weight does the tack that gets stuck to the disc make it illegal?
This question is addressed directly, www.pdga.com/rules/official-rules-disc-golf/questions-and-answers#t5651n238071, but the answer is that you may have to clean the disc periodically if it is becoming detectable on the disc.
Think you need a part 2. I can see how it might help with shots off the tee, but if it's still on your hands when you putt, it's probably going to negatively effect your putting. I'm sure that stuff left a sticky residue on your discs also. I wonder what discs are like after a several applications. Does dirt and grass stick to discs afterwards? Does the sticky stuff get all over backpack (or cart), towels, and everything you touch?
Love the vid! But I also have one recommendation for you to use and try. Pole Vaulters use Grip spray to hold on to the pole. It is very easy to apply and you guys should try it out. When i used to pole vault I used Medibase Grip Spray, but there are also other firms that make similar stuff.
I love your videos. You are the reason I got into disc golf. Do you think you can do a video on your form and grip for backhand and forehand. You are an inspiration to me.
I know it’s ten months after the video but thanks for shooting this! I have trouble with grip due to my job and just due to overall pain in my hands (arthritis runs in the family) I’m definitely going to try some of these to help me get better grip and hopefully some more distance!!!
I use Gorilla grip towels; similar to the tack rags you use to remove the dust from sanded wood to put on paint or urethane, not messy like a lot of the things you were using. Makes your hand a little tacky for a shot or two, til you have to touch it again.
@@seymourglass26 just need me as a card mate. Anything above 70 degrees and I am soaked head to toe in sweat. Wasn't helping the rosin during 93 degree super humid weather during a 3 round tournament for me a few weeks ago.
Putting straight rosin on your hands will make the disc feel more slippery since you're basically putting a layer of power between your fingertips and the surface of the disc. If you put a dab of sunscreen on your hands (spread it a bit but don't rub it all the way in), then hit the rosin bag, then rub it all together, you should get a nice sticky feeling. You can do this mixture on your arm somewhere to make a bit of a reserve you can go back to over and over.
I think a good test for actual feasibility in disc golf would be to try to make a circle’s edge putt after each drive to see how much the tackiness affects your putting.
I stayed away from sticky stuff all the way through my amateur baseball career through age 35. Batting gloves worked on bats. I used to lick my finger tips for a little bit of tack when I pitched. I do the same now when I throw discs. I never felt like I needed more grip on anything, ever. I feel like I was blessed with strong, dry hands that grip things just fine in the summer heat and humidity. Now I have moved to where part of the year it will be cold. Completely changes things for throwing discs, and I'm not sure how I'll handle the cold. Might try some pelican wax for the cold, rainy days?
I think dry hands are more effective then any stick substance for discgolf. It might give you a bit extra distance but anything sticky is going to mess with your release point. Baseball pitchers that use it (illegally) do not have to have same throwing motion as disc golf (obviously) and dg is more reliant on the thrower's touch to get the right flight pattern.
So I know noone may see this but fun fact about the spider tac... that's what the world's strongest men use when they do the atlas stone lift. They put it on their hands, forearms, chest and stomach to help them lift stones they weigh up to 600+ pounds! Did not expect to see him pull the tac out to be honest. Cool video man.
I keep a rosen bag in my disc golf bag. On a dry hand it is a little slick, but once it mixes with some sweat it gets pretty tacky. My preference is actually liquid chalk.
Is the bit of extra distance worth the potential inconsistency in your shot, your feel, and routine? I’m not sure it is at Paul’s level. What really needs to be done is to take this stuff out to those salt flats with those winds and someone set a new world distance record. I think that’s where it will really be helpful and shine.
You should try gloves. Friction Gloves, MechanixWear Grip, cheap golf glove and expensive (Callaway X-Spann)… I never thought I’d wear a glove in 14 years of playing, injured my hand and was only able to play 1-2x a week. Decided to try the X-Spann golf glove 2 weeks before a tournament and I’m able to grip and rip again. Allowed me to play 3day A Tier without issue or pain.

Mid day not a great time to film. Great, timely video as far as the content
It was a bright day and you're wearing white. It's hard to balance all that. Thanks for taking the time to vlog!
You did a great job correcting I guess. I wouldn't have known if you didn't say anything. Great content!

I'm about to sue for stealing my mic....😂
Thanks for letting us get a whiff of the pelican grip
This is the comment
Made with bits of real pelican so you know it's good.
Paul today: "It's legal to use in disc golf."
PDGA tomorrow: "It's illegal to use in disc golf."
Lol, imagine if they made a rule saying nothing but a towel could be used. Thanks Pablo!

Welp, they ruined it anyways so here's your like
This isn't MLB.
@@itsprochy Can't ruin the 169 either 👍
Hannah: Where are the directions? Did you read the directions?
Paul: It's illegal so you don't get directions.
now we need Simon to head back out to the deserts with a jar of spider tack
Hahahahahah! That’s good.
Rosen is usually mixed with sunscreen and sweat to make almost a sticky paste. That could be why it was so slick for you guys !
I was going to add this same comment
Agreed rosin is my favorite hands down. They must not have been sweaty enough.
Yeah gotta mix some bullfrog in there!

Hey Paul, Interesting content. Why didn't you include the Friction disc golf glove in the test? It's PDGA approved.
Can we just give it up to Hannah? Her editing is top notch, and she is so funny off camera.
She is the whole reason this channel is so good.
I agree! Without her this channel is mediocre at best lol!! 😜
You could argue there’s no channel without her
Agreement.
Look at these white knights. Yall make me laugh so hard
Would love to know how these work/don't with wet discs. I feel like grip is really an issue when stuff gets damp.
They did an issue with some wet discs but I didn’t include the footage. They said the stickiness was good but the wet palms made it slip
Can only imagine that surfer wax would work well, as it's made for surf boards
I picked up a pine tire rag to help see if it would help in wet conditions. It instantly added 50 feet to my drive.
As a former college pitcher who used pine tar I started using it on my forehands when it feels slick it definitely helps 😂 lol
Brooooo same🤣

Well, a lot of pros already use Birdie bags as well as whale sacs. But I am also interested in seeing what other stuff they might use

Fun video, interesting topic. For the rosin bag, they will generally rub that with sweat in their fingertips for a while creating a tacky grip.

The discraft discs usually have that writing in the inside of the rim. I always go for that for the forehand grip
I’ve thought about this for a while. Great video
The Mrs is your #1 fan Paul, you better keep the beard for her 😁 also Nick cracked me up with his Power Ranger Movie reference 😆😆

I love your videos. You are the reason I got into disc golf. Do you think you can do a video on your form and grip for backhand and forehand. You are an inspiration to me.
Rosin and sunscreen produces the tack. I feel like just rosin and sweat takes longer to create the same grip
That commercial was great hahahaha
Mixing rosin and sunscreen is something mlb pitchers do for sticky stuff. Rosin alone won’t do it
Spray a rosin bag with sunscreen and throw it in your bag. Anytime you need grip for a forehand it will be perfect

not anymore lol
