The Flashback Mega-Metagross had was a throwback to the original and first Pokemon Battle Royale video made by TerminalMontage, Named "Pokemon Battle Royale".
The pokedex entry for his Mega-Evolution state that when Metagross know he can't win a battle, he will charge at his opponent, and self-Destruct himself as an ultimate ressort. (Like a Kamikaze pilot).
Put it simply. In this battle royale context, Mega-Metagross realized/knew that the only issue to the fight was death So, he decided to go in a big "boom" and bring Mega-Camerupt down with him.

Yes. I did. Metagross and Alakazam have the ability to remember stuff from other timelines and stuff in Mega. As explained by Lockstin(& Gnoggin).

Out of the dozen or so reactors I've watched for this video, I've seen literally only one catch on to the fact that it's Mega Metagross 'remembering' the other timeline (video) of his encounter with Camerupt. Every other reactor completely missed it and was confused. Even ones I know for a fact watched the very video that flashback is from miss it.
Like, how do people not understand this concept. It's a cool callback, and it's wasted on people just not paying attention. It can be so frustrating at times. Ugh!

The whole part with Metagross is a call-back to the first Pokémon Battle Royale video, where it was just regular Pokémon, no Megas or Legendaries.
There's three other Battle Royale episodes, and this one is the fourth and latest, and TerminalMontage likes to throw running gags and brick jokes even between videos that aren't about the same series.
Even Latias and Latios are still crustily drawn like they were back in the Legendary Battle Royale, while everything else shows how much the artstyle has improved in the meantime. Just for the joke that they aren't very different in their Mega forms.
