    To be honest the best thing about this performance was Olive's mother. Her slow, heavenly and gentle singing really shows how she feels about olive and to be honest even overpowered the dads vibrato. It was a great performance though they are all wonderful.

      Yes! I love the performance of Olive's mom and the dad's vibrato was amazing

    @supersingerevan The reason isn't merely because of a lack of actors, especially in The I Love You Song. In this song Olive is creating a "chimerical" situation where her parents love her, when in reality they don't, as tragic as it is. The reason Mitch is portraying Olives dad and Rona is Olives mom is because to Olive, those two people are the most comforting people at the Bee. This is all Olives fantasy, and she is acting out this fantasy with the two most comforting people she knows.

    The spellers were double-casted. Allison Lewis (the mother) was Olive in the other cast.

    How come the Woe is Me reprise song makes me want to cry?

      Reese L I honestly don't know. I don't find any song in this musical emotional at all. I feel like any emotional songs in this musical are misplaced because we don't have enough time to connect with the characters on that level.
      They are all comedy roles, so it's difficult to "care" enough to bring me to tears.

      James Well, it's kinda the way she sang it, and that applies to Olive with The I Love You Song, too. It's just kinda sad...

      Reese L Yeah, for you it obviously just hits you in the feels. That's the beauty of performance, it effects people in different ways.

      James There was this one version of Putnam I saw, their Olive and Logainne sang with no emotion in their songs. This Logainne and Olive acted and sang beautifully.

    The adults weren't double-cast. It was a rather ironic turn of events when an adult was the only person to need an understudy.

    This was the best version of 25th I seen besides the OBC. Evan & Heather rocked it.

    Omg..... third comment on this production...... but I loveeeee the way you guys did this!!!!! My favorite characters are, again, olive, logainne, and Marcy, and the casting is on point:) For the third time(sorry bout that) Congratulations on a great show!!

    Spectacular performances all around! I loved Allison's voice and the clear adoration for Olive -- made all the more painful by her absence. Kenneth captures the vocal quality of Mitch perfectly, and Heather delivers an emotional knockout punch in a beautifully sung and understated Olive. Bravo!

    @pilsburydoughboy555 During all of rehearsals, Olive's mom was played by the same girl as Rona. But Rona lost her voice at the last minute, and so we had the Olive from the other cast come in to sing just that song.

  • @mimimartin7882
    @mimimartin7882 11 років тому +5

    Who did play Olive's mother, since Rona couldn't? I didn't recognize her as another speller

  • @MyFrappy

    The girl playing Olive kind of looks like Lindsey from Freaks and Geeks!

  • @supersingerevan
    @supersingerevan  12 років тому

    @Pigfartsrulez No, they are completely separate characters. They are always played by the people playing Rona and Mitch because the vocal ranges are similar, and they only appear in one scene, so hiring more actors would be ridiculous. Same reason why Mitch and Leaf play Logainne's parents, and Chip (or in our show, Marcy's mom) plays Jesus.

    this is absolutely amazing. It is so well done. :) To you critics below me... my school is doing this show and these vocals are ridiculously hard to do.. I have friends auditioning for these parts who have sung at the Vatican and Carnegie Hall with our choir and they are even struggling. So please if you're going to be critical try singing it first.

  • @supersingerevan
    @supersingerevan  12 років тому

    Yeah, that's how it's almost always done. Rona would have played Olive's mom in this run if she hadn't lost her voice. Actually, I'm never quite sure what to call this level. It's all college and high school-aged performers, but not associated with any school. Pre-professional teen?

    Wow! Best production I've seen next to the Broadway production.

  • @supersingerevan
    @supersingerevan  12 років тому

    @jimsta4o9 I take issue with the idea that this is only true for this one song. What about Carl Dad and Dan Dad being played by Mitch and Leaf? Or Chip playing Jesus? As I interpret it, these roles are played by the actors on stage for pure convenience. Same way that Avenue Q has actors play multiple roles; that sort of thing happens frequently in shows, really. They're just separate characters, in my opinion.

  • @supersingerevan
    @supersingerevan  12 років тому

    Because the girl playing Rona fits the character of Rona and the girl who played Olive's Mom for this performance doesn't. Olive's Mom in this was brought in last minute (played Olive in the other cast) because Rona lost her voice.

  • @modernofficefan
    @modernofficefan 12 років тому

    @supersingerevan when I was in this show at a professional level Rona plays olive's mother and Mitch plays olive's father also Leaf's brothers and sisters are played by spellers and audience members and What level of theater was this done on?

  • @supersingerevan
    @supersingerevan  12 років тому

    @TeeJayCast I would personally say that's reading far too much into how the show was written, but that's certainly the stance a director could take when producing this play.

  • @TheBladewaker

    Great Job I can see how you created Different choices but kept the character, this is my favorite show next to Avenue Q! I also try to find many unknown plays/ musicals to read/ direct but those too sound pretty generic, atleast it's not wicked! Haha

  • @amyvocalist

    @supersingerevan I don't think it is at all, I think TeeJayCast has it spot on. It's quite obvious that it's all in Olive's head.
