Awesome that he explained the Scots-Irish roots. The interviewer let him explain the Appalachian/Celtic origins, then African-American influences, then the Germanic people out west added the Cowboy ballads, which was mixed with the Spanish vaqueros (Buckaroo in English) culture. All of this went into a mixing/ blender and became Country & Western. Of course it continues to evolve and pick up new flavors, and occasionally goes through a "cleansing" like the 80s with George Strait, taking back the traditional sound. Jamie Johnson, Sturgill Simpson, etc. all help keep it rooted. RIP Mr. Eddie Rabbit.

Edit, great interview great job, Eddie was way ahead of his time, he could be talking about today, but his music was my era, and yeah "Irish music" (to me) sounds country.

Thank you for posting video, I really appreciate how Herb allowed Eddie to continue to talk as most interrupt once they get the answer they want. Eddie’s life story is quite intriguing with so much humor colored with drama & even tragic events that it could easily be a biographical movie . As I understand he was beloved by many in Nashville, I don’t ever recall hearing anything scandalous & perhaps that is why, I am absolutely bewildered as you why he isn’t in country hall of fame or even the rock & roll hall of fame as some of his music especially with Crystal Gail, is of the same genre as Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton’s cross over duets. Eddie Rabbitt’s music that he wrote the majority of is legendary. He had 26 number #1hits, how many do you need to qualify?

It was kind of prophetic when Eddie was talking about the possible long term effects of inhaling the dust from those pigeon droppings. He died of lung cancer and I wonder if that incident could have triggered it.

This is so sad that he was exposed to the pigeon droppings. He was diagnosed in 1997 and died in 1998 so its quite possible that his exposure had everything to do with his lung cancer as he was a smoker and therefore was even more susceptible to the air borne pathogens..this makes me angry!! Such a great loss to the world of music..and such a great man
