About the Oda Clan of Oda Nobunaga, yes, he still has living descendants today, like other samurai families which includes the Tokugawa, Date and Hosokawa Clans. Also to get this out of the way, while the mangaka Eiichiro Oda of One Piece fame shares the same surname spelling in Romanji, the Kanji for his Oda is different from Nobunaga’s. Clan crest have rules of who can use it and direct clan members like Oda Nobunaga and his descendants can wear the crest on their clothes, armor and items. High - ranking vassals often adopt their own crests and standards and for those ashigaru and lower-ranking samurai, they wear a Sashimono, which is a small banner, on their back for battlefield identification. Hence, fantasy Yasuke, having the Oda Clan crest on his armor and katana sheath despite not being blood-related to the Oda, is egregious.
Samurai use a variety of weapons like spears, polearms and bows so they’ll use that first then if the arrows ran out and/or the spear and polearm gets broken. It is there when they use the Tachi or the Katana so the swords are usually the secondary weapon.
I understand you need to cut the vid but Dashblue did tackle the use of the Great Buddha Statue housed in Todaiji Temple in Nara by Ubislop in the game as uncalled for. For religious reasons, the use of the statue for video games and popular media is prohibited as no one was given permission to do so and those who requested permission are outright denied.
As someone who watched Japanese Jidaigeki dramas set in this period, I really hated Ubislop for their indifference and sloppiness in making AC Shadows.

@@Kinai89面白いからちょっと調べてみたら、戦国時代あたりは木は植えられてなかったみたいだね。なんなら城を建ててる山の木は全て伐採して禿山にしてたらしいね。
籠城云々で植えられたのは近世(江戸前後)あたりからみたい。駿府城は歴史が長いから、恐らく木がない時代も経験して、江戸前後くらいからみかんの木とか植えられたってかんじかも。

I am Japanese. I could feel the "Japan-hating" energy from this game. As a means of expressing this, they are exploiting Yasuke, who is black. This is racism and hate on multiple levels. I know I sound like a racist for saying this, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Ubi later became a Chinese company. The major shareholder is already Tencent. It already started a few years ago when the upper management of UBI was forced to resign for sexual harassment.

i hate if the choice is forced, like i'm straight, i don't want to play gay games. But if its optional as in the dev are willing to add more content for their agendas and still have the choice to get straight pair then by all means do so.
I actually changed my minds because how good the vibes is, don't really care if its chinese structure or japanese structure used in the assets. The dev considers weather change like you can stay in one spot and see the cloud rolling, that was a first for me

Apparently the Japanese Government couldn't find any record of Yasuke, last I heard.
What Ubisoft needs to do to ease the anger of the Japanese is simple.
First of all, they should apologize to all sides for the copyright infringement and make some kind of sincere response, such as providing reasonable compensation. The next step they need to take is to admit and apologize that the Japan that AC Shadows depicts has nothing to do with Japanese history or real people and is a work that has not been chronologically researched.
After that, there will be no problem if they release the video game after correcting all the parts of copyright infringement, including the art book and the video game.

From the Japanese point of view, I don't understand why non-Japanese people need foreign samurai that much.
We, Japanese, think that to become a true samurai, you need to become Japanese from the bottom of your soul.
If a samurai cannot die for his patriotism, his raison d'etre as a samurai will be diminished.

From the Japanese perspective, I do not understand why foreigners have such a strong desire for foreign samurai.
We Japanese believe that in order to truly become a samurai, we must embrace our Japanese identity wholeheartedly.
In a way, being the epitome of Japanese culture is what it means to be a samurai.

In regards to the rice field, I've lived in Japan in for 5 years and yes, they don't do that shit, they usually make rice field on an open area like the side of a highway road or near mountains, never near a river, just proves the Ubisoft absolutely has no idea what they were doing in this whole game, pretty they didn't even go to Japan and surveyed the landscape and map where this era of the game was set in.

Ghost of Tsushima was made by white men, who did their research on Japanese Culture, and the era they were representing in the game. And it had a better story telling than what I've seen of AC Shadows. The inaccuracies in this game are just embarrassing. Yasuke says it's Fall, but they show spring blossoms, and rice fields in the intro, and not even getting weapons, armor, and writing correct. Ugh
It´s never been accurate, Vikings as well, they got buffed with their gears and everything, on Unity, the french flag did not exist and there are always tons of incongruousness.
Even though they’ve never been 100% accurate, they always tried to be as accurate as possible or at least that’s what they’ve always said or used to do.
Some non-Japanese are saying that this is just a game, that it is fiction, that Ubi never said it is an accurate history. But UBI has said many times that you can learn about this time period, or that they have been making games with care for accuracy for a long time, and that they are making this game accurate.

Hating on Katana fans is so 2000s internet... now a days there's been a gross over correction where people like you think its the worst sword in existence. Its still a very effective sword at cutting unarmored people down. Its design makes keeping its edge aligned nearly effortless so you can do those cool things like lopping peoples heads clean off.
Did they have poor steel and have to fold it a bunch? Yeah, did they still impress the European sailors who fought their Wako pirates? Yeah, they were scared of how quick there PIRATES were at cutting peoples hands and heads off, stating it was faster then they could draw and fire their flintlock pistols. They could only counter them with pikes that were apparently standard issue on their ships lol.

Doesn't change the fact that katana was a SIDEARM. An equivalent of the European arming sword. Japan's most used weapons, even among the nobility and the samurai were spears (or polearms in general) and bows - just like in any civilized part of the world. Swords are expensive status symbols.
Is it an effective weapon? Yeah sure, nobody is arguing against that. It does what it was designed to do. What people make fun of is fetishization of katana by Western weebs as the best weapon ever. THAT is cringe.

European Medieval sword was much better.
Pros and cons to all weapons. The katana's single edge, wedge like design made it cut through flesh like butter, ironically making it easier to use then a European sword despite their obsession with edge alignment demos by cutting bamboo XD
European steel was much better though.
@@Acesahn it is the piercing blow that kills, especially if the opponents are armoured, and the European two-edged swords were much better at that. Also if the only one edge of the katana is blunted, the blade becomes worthless, the European knights though just needed to turn switch to the other edge
Katanas has better edge alignment because of their design, and could be drawn and used quickly, so quickly in fact that it terrified some European sailors who got raided by their Wako pirates. They wrote they could draw and kill a man before they could draw and fire their flintlocks.

Ghost of Tsushima Devs never touted they were making things Historically Accurate which is what thr Ubisoft Dev said in this video about Yasuke... And Ubisoft's Samurai Yasuke is not Historically Accurate...

5:40 I have a theory that Naoe was intentionally designed to be *LESS* attractive than Yasuke (her final design is _somewhat_ attractive, just not as much as her initial design)... that way, players would gravitate towards Yasuke (despite the controversies surrounding him)...
Im still buying the game. Dont care what anyone thinks. The game will still be fun despite Ubishit's incompetence. I dont think ive ever played an Assassin's Creed game i didnt enjoy.

We Asian respects our culture, history, and tradition. Seeing western company trying to rewrite asian history is 17th century all over again. So far, only Sucker Punch who did it right
2. Yasuke exist as a page, if you know a little bit about Sengoku era's history you must know that Nobunaga isn't a 'conservative' daimyo, he is an eccentric and a ruthless daimyo. Whether you like it or not, Nobunaga only see him as a trophy, something to show off to his rivals and subordinate. Yasuke has no distinguished achievement nor the bloodline that can grant him the rank of Samurai, if he did, a lot more would've sided with Mitsuhide Akechi
3. Whole 'Yasuke is a Samurai' is a total work of fiction by Thomas Lockley to sell his own book. His only source consists only 2 pages that said "Yasuke existed and he's getting paid" , he freestyled the rest of his story.
4. Ubisoft Japanese consultant is an ex-SBI employee and a woman who write BL stories about monk and teenage boys. That same ex-SBI employee made The NYT articles attacking the gamers.

Even though i am not Japanese, i am still an asian who lives in Asia, I also fan of Japanese history and culture ever since i was an 8 years old boy since i had my PS2 and played Samurai Warriors 2, and seeing pictures of Kyoto on my brother's magazine, it became my dream to visit Kyoto (which i did last year). I was a fan of AC and I've played the major AC games except AC1, Unity, and Mirage. With that said, AC and Japan would've been a dream collaboration for me. But when it did? There are actually two interpretations of who is "getting paid" in #3. It's unclear whether it was the missionary or Yasuke who received the "fuchi (salary or reward)." Anyway, the same text states that Yasuke was "given a saya-maki (not a katana)." This is not something a samurai would carry.
General rule of thumb: don't buy products from people who aren't the ethnicity they're making the game about.
What about culture? A person may belong to some ethnic group, but not be familiar with his native language and culture. For example, descendants of different ethnic groups in the United States have very limited knowledge about the culture of their ancestors. This is great. I've seen a lot about this but this is by far the best critique I've seen.
It's just a game. It has nothing to do with real life. You can be anyone in the game but not in reality.
I definitely remember studying ancient Japanese history with a battalion of Jamaicans fighting against the shogun.
You know what's the funniest thing? I think most people would just turn a blind eye to this game if
1) It wasn’t Ubisoft, whom people had been begging for years about the Assasins Creed set in Japan, but some random company
2) Now would be the peak of the gaming industry and against the backdrop of dozens of masterpieces, one rotten apple would simply be unnoticeable.
But we live in a time when all games have some kind of element of political "subtle" propaganda. Even in a free card game you will be bombarded by "the message". And no, I won't pretend that blacks, gays and women didn't exist in media before the 2010s. The irony is that wokies and all those people who don't play games do this. They want not just “representations”, but overcompensation, which in itself is absurd, considering that you will not be able to compensate for everything even in ten years.
