Lake is one of my favorite games of all time! I just played it this year and I love it so much. The post office in it even looks EXACTLY like the post office in the little town next to mine in Oregon. Also, if you need another game that is ocean related and has a little bit of that strange/eerie vibe for summerween, I would check out Dredge. I haven't played it yet (it is on my list), but I have heard only really good things!

This was such a fun video. I love your Summerween bucket list. Wicker Man is a good slowburn. It is kind of weird in the beginning, but the payoff is one of the best endings I have ever watched. I hope you enjoy it. The only two stories that I can think of that give me Midsommar vibes are Shirley Jackson's short story "The Lottery", and a novel called The Hidden People by Allison Littlewood. It is good. It is a little divisive though. Admittedly, it is a slowburn and has a bit of a sloggy middle. It has good atmosphere though.

Oh my gosh so I JUST picked that up from the library two days ago 😂 I borrowed it because bookswithlexie wanted someone to read it so she would know if she would like Diavola since she had some issues with Lute and wanted to ask someone the differences between the two novels. And I was like why not? And then I realize it’s folk horror on an island. Yay!!!! I found that realization after the fact to be super funny and now you reccomend it 😂

Midsommar is one of my favorite movies. I've watched it like twelve times. The original Wicker Man is so good. I bought Lost in the Garden after Willow at Willow Talks Books mentioned it on her channel a little while back. I'm planning to read it in July.

🌻The absolute chokehold Midsommar puts you in when you first watch it is no joke! I was obsessed with how the film used light and shadow for the longest time. The OG Wicker Man definitely has the vibes you're looking for and you might like watching it with Witchfinder General and The Blood On Satan’s Claw since they make up the "trinity" of folk horror. 📙Love the premise and perspective of In Bloom! I try to now only buy books after I've read them and loved them but this one is tempting me! If you ever want to do a buddy read, let me know. 🎮Okay, my gaming skills are firmly stuck in the PacMan/Frogger era but I NEED to play Spirit Farer! I think those were the two folk horror movies mentioned in the beginning of this folk horror history doc I started watching on Shudder. They sound so wild!! Do you have KU? In Bloom is in the collection. Ooo my Fiance and I started playing Spiritfarer last night via local co-op and it’s seriously so much fun. My brain struggles to figure out the mechanics of a new game, which feels similar to the journey you take when ingratiating yourself into a new book’s world with all its characters and features. But we are loving it! So cozy, sentimental and just structured enough in a way that feels supportive. And yes I’ve seen the Shape of Water!! My full thoughts are in my spooky date night valloween movie wrap up that I did this February but I thought it was okay! It kind of lost me at some parts because I wasn’t super interested in our main character. I wanted more creature time!

We did a special issue on Blood on Satan's Claw that's up on the HH website that you might enjoy after watching it. I'm not a big fan of the film but editing those essays definitely made me appreciate its place in folk horror.
Midway through the video I was like -- where are the crafts? No spoilers but I've read Lost in the Garden by Adam S Leslie. It's weird in ways I wasn't expecting in terms of the Midsommar cover. I hope you like it.
I didn't care for the original "Wicker Man," (the remake is unthinkable) in which he plays a pagan leader, until I saw an older Christopher Lee warn his fans against involvement with witchcraft and paganism. Therefore his point of playing in "Wicker Man" must have been different from what I thought and I might re-watch it.
The Wicker Man is somewhat disorienting and leads to a shocking end. I’ve watched it several times. The remake is shameful. I think Hollywood has run out of ideas and thus does remakes of amazing original movies.
It hasn’t gotten any better with the remake issue this year… I have heard of like 10 remakes scheduled for the future. WHY WHY WHY. Hollywood has no desire to risk their dollars with new stories, despite the public wanting them. On a happier note, I am picking up my copy of the original Wicker Man from the library today!!! 👻👻

I watched Midsommar one time, in theaters back when it came out 5 years ago, and it’s lived rent free in my mind since then. I also watched a ton of videos on it exploring the themes of the movie afterward. I’m still in awe of that stunning movie. I will be keeping an eye out for your reviews of the books you’ll be reading with those same vibes 👀

Midsommar is one of my favorite movies. I've watched it like twelve times. The original Wicker Man is so good. I bought Lost in the Garden after Willow at Willow Talks Books mentioned it on her channel a little while back. I'm planning to read it in July.

🌻The absolute chokehold Midsommar puts you in when you first watch it is no joke! I was obsessed with how the film used light and shadow for the longest time. The OG Wicker Man definitely has the vibes you're looking for and you might like watching it with Witchfinder General and The Blood On Satan’s Claw since they make up the "trinity" of folk horror. 📙Love the premise and perspective of In Bloom! I try to now only buy books after I've read them and loved them but this one is tempting me! If you ever want to do a buddy read, let me know. 🎮Okay, my gaming skills are firmly stuck in the PacMan/Frogger era but I NEED to play Spirit Farer! Forever in my grief processing era. 🌊Have you seen The Shape of Water? That might be fun to add to your Creature marathon. 🍿Super excited for your King Kong thoughts! I think those were the two folk horror movies mentioned in the beginning of this folk horror history doc I started watching on Shudder. They sound so wild!! Do you have KU? In Bloom is in the collection. Ooo my Fiance and I started playing Spiritfarer last night via local co-op and it’s seriously so much fun. My brain struggles to figure out the mechanics of a new game, which feels similar to the journey you take when ingratiating yourself into a new book’s world with all its characters and features. But we are loving it! So cozy, sentimental and just structured enough in a way that feels supportive. And yes I’ve seen the Shape of Water!! My full thoughts are in my spooky date night valloween movie wrap up that I did this February but I thought it was okay! It kind of lost me at some parts because I wasn’t super interested in our main character. I wanted more creature time!

We did a special issue on Blood on Satan's Claw that's up on the HH website that you might enjoy after watching it. I'm not a big fan of the film but editing those essays definitely made me appreciate its place in folk horror.

I didn't care for the original "Wicker Man," (the remake is unthinkable) in which he plays a pagan leader, until I saw an older Christopher Lee warn his fans against involvement with witchcraft and paganism. Therefore his point of playing in "Wicker Man" must have been different from what I thought and I might re-watch it.
Okay now you have me EXTRA interested in this movie for more than one reason. I didn’t know one of the kings of horror was in the OG Wicker Man!!!!

The Wicker Man is somewhat disorienting and leads to a shocking end. I’ve watched it several times. The remake is shameful. I think Hollywood has run out of ideas and thus does remakes of amazing original movies.
It hasn’t gotten any better with the remake issue this year… I have heard of like 10 remakes scheduled for the future. WHY WHY WHY. Hollywood has no desire to risk their dollars with new stories, despite the public wanting them. On a happier note, I am picking up my copy of the original Wicker Man from the library today!!! 👻👻
