- Those who've followed Bob Knight's career know that this past weekend's expletive on live TV was just the latest in a long line of colorful comments from the legendary former college basketball coach. Please to enjoy some wonderful moments from Knight's dealings with the media over the years.
When I heard the opening music, I knew this would be entertaining.

I love people that you never have to wonder where you stand with them.
As a junior in high school, I and three other players on our team went to the Pocono Mountains(PA) basketball camp, run by Coach Knight when he was the head coach at Army...On the first morning addressing the camp in a small airplaine hanger type of gym, coach told all of us to get up from our chairs and get in the defensive posture & to shuffle our our legs up and down...this went on for what seemed an eternity as he pushed us to keep at it...finally he had us stop...all of us were physically drained, but somehow we got through it...he then said to us "if you think your folks sent you here to go on a summer vacation, you're sadly mistaken"...to this day, I'm both sore & exhausted...I came back home having learned basketball, but more importnatly the meaning of discipline, work ethic & perserverance...traits instilled in me to this day... I wouldn't trade that weeks experience for anything, period...thank you Coach Bobby Knight.
And this is why today's culture hates him. They hate discipline and structure

Knight made the remark that if he had chosen another profession it would be a Christian pastor. Colin O'Dell I’ve always said that Bob Knight was a great Basketball Coach. You don’t need to be a good human being to be a good coach. I mean it took Bob Knight all of two minutes after walking onto Assembly Halls floor to show his true colors, arm wrestling with Dick Vitale over attempting to hug Knight. Dementia or not that is who he’s always been. A terribly angry man who happens to be a good coach.

I had a dad like bob knight same height, same build, same disposition. He didn’t go out of his way to be mean to ppl like knight did but he could be be even worse. School board meetings, town meetings. Try bringing a bad report card home! LoL we use to joke he was separated at birth from bob knight and Mike ditka… but no father loved his family more he was a great dad… tough but great lol
My Dad once attended an Ohio State game and sat very close to the OSU bench. Had an OSU assistant come up to him and say “welcome home coach”…that’s how much my Dad looks like him 🤣

Everyone who played for coach Knight sooner or later hit the brick wall and asked "Is this worth it?". He wasn't a lot of peoples cup.of tea, and he knew it. But if you completed your time under him, he would be there to help in any way he could down the road. Tough love, yes, but he loved his boys.

A great coach, no question. A witty, funny guy, no doubt. But he could also be a bully. But that being said, he is a coach I would have LOVED to play for! But if I was a reporter, I would have HATED to cover him!😱🤣
Over the years, Knight did many good things for others, far more often than not unknown to the public. A friend of his once said he knew he was an asshole, and spends as much time as he can making up for it.
Bobby Knight is a national treasure. He speaks his mind and I have all the respect in the world for him.

The first clip in this video is something I’ve seen many times as a fan of Indiana growing up. To a casual observer Knight is coming off like an asshole but that’s because they don’t understand Knight. You see, Knight is already thinking about the next game and opponent but the reporter wants to talk about IU’s 51 point blowout victory and he wanted to imply that home court is advantageous because when Indiana played at Northwestern earlier in the season they barely squeaked out a victory. Knight, knowing his players will see the interview and read the paper, did not want them gloating in their 51 point win and at the same time did not want the seed planted into their minds that home court gives them an advantage. You see, ultimately, Knight is looking out for his kids. He doesn’t want them thinking they’re better than they actually are just because they beat a team by 51 points. That game is over and means nothing in light of the next opponent we have to face. Also, home court is not advantageous because we can beat any team home or away just the same if we play to our potential and prepare accordingly. Knight is TEACHING HERE. Always the teacher.

He is brutally honest and blunt does not sugar code anything. He likes to win no matter what. His teams never cheated and they won games. He basically does not like stupid people who ask dumb ass questions. Also he gets pissed off when he looses.

He doesn't "sugar COAT" anything. He is a moron and I grew up watching him on TV all the time. He would get questions that called into question mistakes he made and he would become a jerk. He got what he deserved... booted from IU... and no final glory run.
You bring up an important point. During his time coaching, there was never any whispers of any cheating going on - he made sure of that. When he came to Indiana im 1971, the school had a long standing problem with boosters who had gotten the school into problems with the NCAA over the years(at one point a 5 year probation on all sports in 1960). Knight heard stories of this when he was playing for Ohio State. When he came to Indiana, one by one, with the schools blessing, he talked to the main boosters involved and made it clear his views and how he didn't want them affecting his program. He got all of them to back off.
He's the best coach ever.
