    It’s hard to say which one would be better. I think they both can be very useful. I do like the extra reach of the Icon but that could be a downside depending on use.

    Both wrenches are nice looking pieces. I have 3 sets each of regular combination wrenches in both SAE and metric. Long pattern, standard, and stubby lengths. When working in a tight space you want a shorter wrench. The same could be said of ratcheting wrenches. The Icon wrenches are meant to mimic Snap on so the ends will be smaller to fit in tight spaces. I imagine the Tekton ratcheting mechanism would be stronger. I don't use my ratcheting wrenches to break fasteners loose unless it is a low torque situation. Both sets deserve a place in the tool box.

    I am eyeing the Tekton set because as a bicycle mechanic, wrenches from 6-9mm are an absolute necessity. The bicycle tool company Park Tool makes ratcheting combination wrenches, but they are not very good.

    I do like the looks of the Tekton wrenches and the long pattern style of the Icons. Both have their own purposes in the shop. Often the long wrenches just wont fit but where they do they are awesome. Personally for about the same money as the Icons I prefer the Mountain long patterns. I have seen these on a few of the mechanics channels and they have said that Mountain is the same wrench rebranded for some of the tool truck versions, personally I don't know but I have torqued on them harder than I should have probably and haven't stripped them out yet.. They are nice with the built in shallow socket part on one side, great for belt tensioners or slightly recessed bolts or nuts when a regular socket and ratchet are a little too long. Definitely not discounting the Icons though, the tool line is great and hope they continue to expand it. Without being able to see the mechanism of the Tekton its impossible to know but there's potential for it to have a little stronger pawl and ring gear setup. I'm new to your channel but enjoying the content, can never have enough tools.

    Should be box ends on both ends, one fixed for breaking loose and other ratcheting to make quick removal, not much of a point in having one end open ended.

    I'm a big Tekton fan, have a few Tekton tools. In saying that I'm actually disappointed in them on what they did with these ratchet wrenches. Tekton has always set themselves apart from the rest. These are just like all the rest now. Short, 72 tooth, 12 point, normal open end. Only thing different is the satin finish. If I'd done it I would have made them different to set them apart from the rest, longer pattern, 90/100/120 tooth, 6 point, satin finish, holy crap I'd stand in line to get something like that. These now are just blah, already have a set, don't need to buy another set lol.

    The Tektons look pretty fat compared to the Icons. You need to measure the boxed ends on each of the Tektons to see how many and which sizes share the same blank size. The direction switch on the Tektons seems pretty large to me. I think I'll pick up a Tekton 15 & 18 mm since My Craftsman V series ratcheting wrenches skip those two sizes. I kind of expected more from Tekton. Thanks for sharing,

    The Icon is a great wrench, with the exception of the open end. the "nonslip" wrenches have a tendency to wreck bolt heads and i don't like the loose fit. if you are working on old classic cars, a lot of them use special fasteners that cannot be replaced are not available aftermarket, so chewing one up if an Icon wrench is out of the question for me. also, I prefer standard length wrench when working in tight spaces. however, I really dislike the satin chrome. it's harder to clean because the surface is not as smooth, so grease and dirt stick to it. I prefer long pattern wrenches in a non-ratcheting wrench. I have been using Tekton for about 6 years now and I have been extremely happy with them however i think i would go with the Gear Wrench set 9620N metric and 9509N SAE, standard length, reversable, polished chrome finish, or if you want them super cheap, the Husky reversable are made by Apex Tool, the same company that makes Gear Wrench. I am pretty sure they are the same wrench with the exception of the branding.

      Yes th icon with that non slip open end design does beat up on the fastner,i made a video showing that!! the satin finish on the tekton is alot different than standard chrome,some people like it,some hate it!! gearwrench makes some good ones,they have been around a long time,some of the first ones made!! thanks my friend for sharing your thoughts on them!! stay tuned!!

    Tekton is a NO for me. ICONs are very similar to Snap-On, which are narrow style wrenches. I use the ICONs every day at work, and love them. I'd go with GearWrench is you're looking for shorter wrenches. When neither of these work, I always reach for my SOs which seem to always fit in tight spaces.

      @@bugman-ir8cwVERY COMMON MISCONCEPTION. HF had realized their 2 short comings. That OLD policy n not being able to replace single items. To correct the 1st one, they now offer a NO HASSLE WARRANTY, YOU CSN BRING IN A SINGLE WRENCH, SOCKET ETC... THEY WILL GO OPEN A NEE PACKÀGE OF THE SAME N REPLACE IT. I wasnt sure but after watching a Tekamo HD VIDEO at SÉMA 2023 ON HARBOR FREIGHT, IT IS STATED. Still unsure I put in a call to HF customer service, they said NO PROBLEM. STILL NO WAY OF REPLACING MISSING INDIVIDUAL PIECES THOUGH. They're trying to get tools in the hands of the people. Now, if they really wanna compete offer different handle colors. I won't buy their ratchets bcuz og the red smsll handles.

    • @larrydudgeon2846
      @larrydudgeon2846 10 місяців тому

      I have a feeling that most guys DO NOT know how to properly use their tools. If you've been working on vehicles for as long as I have you pretty much know what tool to use in certain situations and different bolts. If you are working on let's say an exhaust bolt, you are not going to grab a ratchet wrench to break a rusted up exhaust bolt. If you're smart enough you are going to grab something stronger like a 6 point impact socket and impact gun. If you're working on let's say a drive shaft and need to break a bolt loose, especially on a Ford with the 12 point head. My go to on that job is a double box end long pattern GW, breaking the bolt with the fixed end. Then ratcheting it the rest of the way out with the other end. You're not grabbing a short ratchet wrench to begin with to break that particular bolt loose. So in saying all this you should know your tools, know how and which bolts are what and use the proper tool. If you know that you are going to reef on a bolt you're not going to start with a ratchet wrench, just sayin lol. Know your tools, I have learned that through the years.
