I think you have to move the handle or whatever movement part of the machine to get the pins in. kinda like when there’s a heavier than usual attachment on the lat pull-down machine and you have to hold it up a bit for the stack to go all the way back down and allow the pin to go in properly.
If you're ever in Spokane Valley, WA there is a gym called MindSet Gym. I've never been in it, but I always thought it would be cool if you made your way there.
Eric, I'm not sure if it's the case with these particular machines but in my previous gyms there were some machines that had looseness in the pulleys that caused the pin to not go into certain weights. So I would have the pin a little in the weight, pull it a little more taught, and be able to press the pin the rest of the way in. I love seeing these heavy duty gyms still in existence. You said something really interesting about Gold's of Venice Beach the other day, and I tend to agree about them. It's almost as if gold's is no longer interested in being the mecca of bodybuilding, but are more interested in packaging and capitalizing off the nostalgia of them formerly being a mecca. The fact that they don't allow chalk tells you all that you need to know.
I went to a gym in London for a couple of months when I moved here, it was like this but in a much smaller space so all the equipment was on top of each other. The bars were so bent it was extremely difficult to do any lifts and all the plates were off, but it had almost every machine you could possibly imagine (unmaintained since opening 40 years ago)
So true about hip thrusts, the weight just does nothing. Was doing them for like 2 years and never really had any glute doms. Switched to bulgarian split squats and using 20kg dumbells got insane glute DOMS instantly.
Same brother…tried light weights and heavy weights on the hip thrust…zero ass pump…did Bulgarians one day up to only 50 lb dumbbells for sets of ten…couldn’t even walk the next day due to crippling ass DOMS
That’s because there’s basically zero eccentric contraction on hip thrusts. All the load is at peak contacting. When you lower slowly on a squat you feel it all the way down .
Next year I will go on a trip in the United States and I must thank you so much for making these gym tours so that I'll know where to go if my chronic tendinitis starts to heal while I'm on the trip

i live 30 minutes north of louisville, crazy to think bugenhagen was that close to me. no wonder my gym session was so good this morning, your power was radiating and i was close enough to suck some of it up. thanks for the extra gains
On these old school pin machines you just pull the empty cable slightly to align the pin hole and then put in the pin. Usually it's because the cables have stretched over the years making it slightly out of sync
i love these videos just showing hardcore oldschool gyms, there's a huge lack of those here in the netherlands. i've been trying to find them but not much luck yet. america is way ahead and I understand why Arnold left
I hope you make it to the Fitness Factory in Charlotte NC. Moved away last year and I'm worried that I'll never find a gym as good as that one ever again.
The trick is to lift a little with no weights set. Just a little move and the stick can be put in place. If the situation is really bad for the equipment, you may have to lift to the distance of an entire bar of the machine weight set to be able to plug the stick, and that would make it impossible for you to use ALL the weight the machine have originally, buuuuuut you still having almost all the weight, except for a bar of 5kg or 10kg (idk how much in pounds)
Can’t wait for you to come to Texas. But honestly, Dallas lacks in decent gyms. Unless you get out to the outskirts like Plano, Garland, maybe Ft worth has a few spots.
The single leg step up is actually the most effective glute exercise by far. They did a study on it although i dont have the literature in front of me 🤓

I think the weight stacks were offset in the first place because dumbass mcgee slams the stack when he’s done with his set. That might’ve caused it

Lol the pins on the old leg extensions look like they just stuck an alan key in there
You’re actually pretty spot on..I’m assuming if they just got smaller ones, they’d actually fit and the machines could be used to build thick mass
