    If you're learning to drive a manual car then using clutch control at a junction on a hill can be a scary experience. In this video, we look at how you can creep forward at a junction using clutch control, how to do a hill start and how to emerge. Confidence with the biting point and how to creep forward with clutch control is important before attempting this on a hill. It's best to practice on a quiet, flat road first with your driving instructor.
    Once you have the biting point you can lower the clutch about the thickness of a pound coin to slow down or raise it slightly to increase speed.

    Thanks for this. I recently passed my test but I still struggle with this. On a hill junction I normally go into neutral after pulling up the handbrake and then go about preparing my hill start like I'm about to do another test 🥲 I'm very afraid of stalling and holding someone up AND of wearing the clutch.

      Bro don't use hand brake it makes you slower
      You can't pull handbrake everytime in traffic on hill
      Instead find a hill area practice with pedals see what works for you
      What i do is quickly release brake slightly press accelerator and release clutch
      It should done in fraction of seconds and remember it takes time to perfection

      Hi, sometimes you can save it from stalling. But if you stall make sure you keep it safe, always press the brake after you stall just in case you roll back. I've stalled on my exam and I still passed. And I am sure Chris made a video about it already.

      @@wiewioraa8 it happens to even veteran drivers. For example if forget in which gear in and try to pull in other than first resulting in stall. How much distance it travel before stall. It's dangerous no like way of other road user. Is that issue in all manual car.

    • @wiewioraa8
      @wiewioraa8 7 місяців тому

      @@deekshithm7754 pull in you mean to stop or join the road? If you want to pull over by the kerb or park 2nd gear is fine to do that. If you're joining the road from stationery you need to be in 1st. But I am sure you know that. Sometimes at the junctions you won't need to stop if you can see clearly and there is nothing in your way you can stay in 2nd. Just make a habit that every time you stop put into 1st immediately and that will eliminate stalling. And also driving is a skill but also your instict, I couldn't tell you why I do sth sometimes, I just do without thinking.

    Thanks for the video, I noticed when I’m on a steep incline I have to add gas to about 3-4k revs to even get the car to stop rolling back and make progress not sure if it’s because of a very low torque on my car or something else going wrong? (Fiesta 09 1.25)

    • @worlddriving
      @worlddriving  8 місяців тому +5

      Hey there! Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. On steep inclines, it's common to use a bit more gas to prevent rolling back. With a Fiesta 1.25, it might be a combination of its torque and the incline. Experiment with a gentle release of the clutch and gradual gas to find the sweet spot. Keep practicing, and you'll get the hang of it!

    It's all about requirements:
    Here it's a junction on a hill
    1. Slow down - clutch and brake
    2. Creep forward - balancing clutch and gas in first gear
    Thanks for the video

    Hi, my instructor taught me reverse parallel parking and although his advice worked for the example I'm not sure it'll work especially after watching your videos. He said to get parallel to the carin front, then reverse until my car's door handle is between the 2 doors and then one full turn left. Once you can see the 2 rear lights, go straight back until the door handle touches the kerb in the left mirror and then do full lock right and then straighten the wheels. This to me seems like a problem as the car could be parked other way round and different cars have different lengths and door positions. What would you say?
