About this video:
Spring is here! Its been raining all of March, and now that its April, I'm getting antsy to get out into the garden. I wanted to gather some more pots to add to my front porch spring display of multiple spring blooming pots on either side of the steps. Soon the tulips, daffodils, and hyacinth will be bursting with color. So lets go shopping for some new pots. We visit both Ocean State Job Lot, and Marshalls. Also, it was time to get the Peony rings up, as well as add some fresh compost and fertilizer to some overwintered roses. Come hang out with me and have a day of spring gardening related fun. Thanks for watching - Steph (Gardening in Massachusetts zone 6b) #gardentour #plants #spring #shopping
Keep sharing the price. I love it. I don’t know why people are hush hush about money and price.
I agree! I find it helpful!
Steph, I love your new planters and the way you placed them, they look so beautiful. And I love how you looked at the 2 stories and got some awesome prices on them. Thank you for sharing this with us. ❤
I do appreciate how you plant out a size of lot, that is somewhat comparable to what many residential gardeners have to work with. Makes it more real as in what most home gardeners will be inspired by...
Your front step with all your pots looks awesome! Can’t wait to see the plants you put in them.
Janey from Dig, Plant, Water, Repeat just talked about roses and apparently there’s a mixture of Sul-Po-Mag that is recommended by her Garden Center to put on.
I just came on here to see if anyone mentioned Janey’s recipe!! I just ordered my supplies to make this!! She swears by it.
Oh???😂
I took a photo of the recipe and I will try and post it here
van Windenis
Secret Rose Mix
1 cup Alfalfa Meal
1/2 cup Rose Fertilizer
2 Tbls Sul-Po-Mag
(Sul-Po-Mag I found on Amazon. It is some sort of sulfur, potassium, magnesium special fertilizer)
Funny I was just gonna mention the same recipe which Janey used to Steph! 😊
I think it is a great idea to plant in groups like that, it will be beautiful I'm sure. We have had rain, hail, sleet and snow this week, so not feeling like getting outside and doing any planting, will be closer to May before I do anything, love watching other people though, keep up the good work, you have the most amazing yard I have ever seen!!
Hi Steph, I know this is an older video, I missed it. I Love your choices of pot you got. I went to Job lots today cuz I was in that area and I had been to one years ago wasn't good then, but this is amazing now! Thank you for sharing. Love the placement of the pause
Such a coincidence, I was looking for affordable planters as well. Just in time. Thanks for sharing this video.
Glad it was helpful!
What a steal on the Italian planters! I so appreciate you sharing your shopping trip and the prices. It was fun to come along on the adventure!
Thanks so much! 😊
Great deals on those pots, especially the scallop ones; they look like bergs pottery and if so, they are expensive. I can’t wait to see you plant them all up. Your front door is going to look super inviting.
I’m looking forward to seeing your front entry in full bloom! Its going to be magnificent!
Wow what a good selection of pots at Ocean State Job Lot! I too was inspired by Klaus Dalby and have been displaying plants in pots at my side entrance. I love your steps. Perfect place for a beautiful potted plant display. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Love the ideal of it cluster pots. 👍🏽
I’m a big fan of Klaus Dalby 🤗
Great ideas Steph. Thanks so much for "pre" shopping for us.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching Christie!
Roses do really well in the ground in full sun in our area which is in 9B. It does get too warm although the roses do better outdoors in full sun & in the ground
I can’t believe how many options you had and the great prices on the ones you bought! I love the variety of textures. Thanks, Steph!
You are so welcome! Thank you so much Jillie! 🥰
Yes I love when you share the price
You are the best shopper!!
😊 thank you!
Already look better with fresh soil 🌷🌳🌷
I enjoy everything you do and appreciate you sharing!
Someone else mentioned rose food recipe from Janey on dig plant water repeat
And I also saw the video she had recipe on where you could screenshot!
She always promotes other UA-camr gardeners so I feel that is very community friendly!!
Greetings from Oklahoma 🌳🌷🌳
Thank you so much! Others commented on the mix Janey shared as well. I will be giving it a try. Thank you for your comment and for watching 🌱
I love collection’s of pots in garden and in steps
Love the clay pots - and all the pots were such great prices! I do think the "birch log look" pots are my favorite~
Hi Robyn! Thank you so much. I love those too 💚
Fish emulsions and banana peels have always worked for my roses. Never had any issues.
Thank you so much Sonya! I love to use fish emulsion in my garden as fertilizer. I'll water them with some this week.
I think you did great! What about the left and right side of your steps, I would add a few more pots
I love clusters of planters. I have done it for one season. Will I do it again? No. Too much watering . But it does look beautiful. I actually think u can use more pots and place them so they form an upside down ^ from your columns . I enjoy all yr videos. Thank you for sharing.
Gorgeous pot collection of colors and textures! I can’t wait to see the flowers you plant in it! 🥰
I watch all your videos and really enjoy them! I do find your hand always in front of the camera distracting but I do appreciate you taking us along. Thank you! 🌿💚
Sorry about that, and thank you for the feedback 😊
I wish you had not said that about her hand, for I had never paid any attention to that. Now I see it. I love her videos.
Funny. I was thinking she has nice hands 🤷♀️
Love the new pots and how you arranged them sista!!! Great job on bargain shopping…love it!
Thanks so much 😊
We definitely have the same color palette
That’s going to be a beautiful display of pots I did a display of sunflowers in pots in 2022 and it was fun and very colorful. I was in my ocean state the other day and they were full of planters and so much gardening supplies. Such a fun store to go to. ❤
🍌🍌🍌 peels around your roses. Works wonders.❤
I always thought your shed was a "she shed". Love your pot choices.
I love all the different pot
On the metal trays with rollers you can use flex seal in them to keep from rusting out
Steph this is great idea! Gonna copy this on my porch! Thanks!
Claus also has a lot of assistants and students lol.
Pots look great, nice choice
Great job on placement. It's going to look great.
I’ve heard about this special magic rose fertilizer mix. I finally did it this year and my roses are leafing out and looking absolutely gorgeous.
Van Windenis Magic Rose Mix
2 tbsp Sul-Po-Mag
1 cup Alfalfa meal
1/2 cup Rose Fertilizer
Your home is very welcoming with all of the different planter sizes and colors that were arranged nicely on your steps. Thank you for sharing.🌻
I have a small porch. But I always put groups of potted plants. It looks so inviting. 😊 I can see where you can add two more! 😅
I like it! Looks great. I go for the natural look too. Terracotta.
It looks awesome. Really good job with the prices. I love it.
Thanks so much!🥰
Love this arrangement!
Steph, I love your planters, they look lovely on your steps, I look forward to seeing them filled with beautiful flowering plants. Thank you for sharing the prices, I love a bargain but am so envious of what you paid for them. I am in Australia and everything is SO overpriced here.
Hi Ivanka! thank you so much for watching, and I'm so sorry things are so expensive where you are. I hope to plant them up soon 🌱
You are a good shopper. Love the Italian terra cotta pots.
Thanks so much Sydney!
Yes, I cluster plants in places all around my garden. If I buy a plant that I'm not sure where to put it, I plant it in pot and move it around in various places in my garden. Plants in pots add a different dimension of interest to my planting beds.
Love the clusters of containers on your front steps!
FYI-1)my Wilmington, NC Lowes has candytuft available. Yours might too.
2)I found a cool head planter at HomeGoods last year. Check it out; you never know what you might find.
Love the videos. I always get some inspiration.
You are great! Love your pot selection and placements!😃
Thanks so much! 🥰
Coast of Maine products are really high quality. I wish I could get it here in Michigan.
Thanks for sharing the prices.
Love the look of multiple plants. Some beautiful items shared in your shopping trip😊. I really value it when prices are given, so helpful when deciding if pot is in your budget👍🏻🙌🏻.
Can’t wait to see the planters planted up❤
Tho I love your pots and the prices, a Thrift Store like Goodwill is a good place to get used Pots of all kinds too! Hit-or-miss of course, but could be very budget friendly, and recycling to boot!😊
Thanks for sharing! I have looked there in the past, but because I can't get there often, I usually miss out. But I agree, definitely a great place to look, as well as Facebook Market Place for second hand options.
@@HookedandRooted ahhh, never thought of fb marketplace for pots! Will try it, we do have that in France!👍🏻🤩
When you mentioned that you want to get your roses off to a running start, prune out any branches that are touching other branches. Keep the center of the rosebush pruned to allow maximum light exposure.
Wow, wish we had an Ocean State Job Lot store in our area. Their assorment is really nice and large. I think the placement of the pots is perfect. Can't wait to see what flowers you are going to use in them. I also do tulips each year in pots and place them in different areas of my breezeway and/or front stoop.
Watch Dig. Plant, Water, Repeat. Janey has a magic Rose recipe.
Hi Steph! I used alfalfa pellets around my roses for the first time last year and they did so well! I used them on roses planted in the ground and in pots and let the rain water them in. The only bad thing is that they come in huge bags, so I'll have alfalfa pellets for many years. 🤣
I really like the pot placements. I can’t wait to see them with plants.
I use lots of pots around the house. The front is all terracotta colored plastic pots. In the back it’s mostly gray and black.
OMGoodness. ...I had NEVER heard of this place! I just googled them and there is a store near-ish me! I'll have to add to my list of stores to go visit!
love❤ your Maro Magnolia tree BEAUTIFUL white blossoms.thanks for the take along shopping trip awesome store like the new pots and great prices!! all yhe pots onthe front steps look so pretty can't wait to see them planted🍃💐🌄
Wow Steph, LOVE what you picked up!! You have some great places to shop in your area! Cannot wait to see once you have planted!
Steph, I know you are in Massachusetts and can't believe that you didn't get the big Northeaster we just got here in Maine 2 days ago. Its horrible with 16 more inches of snow again. I am so envious of you. Love your videos. Thsnks
Hi Glenda, Oh I'm so sorry. That's no fun. Its freezing here, and it hasn't stopped raining. We had sleet yesterday too. Hopefully it warms up for both of us soon.
I have three of those pots with the scroll design on the front that look vintage! One large and two small ones from Job Lot.
For years now I have spray painted my pots. Usually one time spray is all it takes to last years. That way I can use my pots and add any new ones if I wish to do so.
I love your ideas💕💕💕
Love your info, just beautiful
Hi Steph, I never heard of your outlet store, but I do know I would be visiting there often!! What great prices AND selections! I like the pot arrangement. Have fun planting them up 🪴
Love your new pots! Great bargains! The birch looking pots are so unique. If I had any patience for shopping, I’d be looking for some just like that. Candytuft rocks! Enjoy your beautiful new planters. Blessings…daisy
Thanks so much! 😊
Lost my garden “mojo” for a bit as there was discussion for us to move to a Zone 9A 😭 area (we have family in the Vegas area and we are pretty much on our own here in Upstate NY) but tried to cheer myself up with looking for plants that I can enjoy & grow in that dessert climate. My tulips are growing and it’s my first time growing them 😊 I will surely miss my Zone 5b-6a growing zone. BUT I wanted to say that I will still watch your channel and I am back to watch your past ones now that the moving shock has surpassed lol 💐
Hi Mari! I'm happy to hear your are settling into your new growing zone. I'm sure there is more you can grow year round. In no time you will love gardening in your new climate. Thank you so much for coming back to watching, and for your comment. Best wishes for a health & happiness in your new home 💚
@@HookedandRooted Haven’t moved yet but will be planting a yard worth of more crocuses/tulips/bulbs while I can in my current zone/home- hoping new owners will be delighted with little garden surprises and love plants!
Great prices !!! 😀
I just went to Ocean State Job Lot for the first time I was impressed with the prices of terracotta pots. I love them a lot. I’m trying to make them a little older, rustic look.
I went there to buy Espoma fertilizers, I bought chicken manure, garden and other fertilizers.
I love your stairs, definitely great look with different pots. My steps are on smaller scale but I as well trying to put few pots for dramatic/lovely look.
I was a pleasure to watch your video again.
Love this idea ..and your display layout looks fantastic
Steph I do the same thing in my garden 🪴 I really like the look of staging pots 😊
Hi Stef .🌺 You arranged these containers at the front of the house beautifully . I have 16 containers on the stairs ,each side has 8 containers yesterday l have added more plants and they look stunning . I love how Clause Dalby arranges his containers.Have a wonderful day .🌺🌻🌺
I bought that same pot! I have it for an indoor plant.
I was inspired to go to Ocean State Job Lot because of this video. I wasn't familiar with them (live in MA, but moved here) and there is one just one town over. Picked up some pots and other odds and ends for my gardening.
Nice! Happy Gardening 🌱
Looks good to me.
The porch planters look great, looking forward to seeing which plants you will use for them.
We have around 8 rose bushes that we had inherited and didn't spend much time on. One season we had extra mulch from a tree we cut down and used it to mulch the rose bed. That year they took off and looked the best I've ever seen them! Huge vibrant blooms and they grew taller and fuller. Since then we have mulched that bed every spring. It may be just what your roses need to keep them in thrive mode. Hope that helps! 😊
They look great can’t wait to see them in full of flowers 🇦🇺 cheers Bronwyn
Thank you😊
That ocean job lot store seems awesome! wish we had one in kansas city
Try the van windens secret rose mix.
-1 cup alfalfa meal
-1/2 cup rose fertilizer
-2 tbsp sul-po-mag
Thank you so much!!
I love all your choices for new pots! I also love the cluster on your steps- they were made for something like this!! ❤
You can put a plastic liner in the metal rolling canister. That first store is great! I wish we had one where I live. You’re lucky!
Loved the video really like all the different pots can't wait to see them potted up and interested to see what plants you're going to use.
They are gorgeous pots! They will look beautiful once you fill them 🌷🌷🌷
Janey from Dig Plant Water Repeat mentions a Rose Magic Mix from a local nursery you can make up using Rose Tone, Alfalfa Meal and Sul Pul Mag I add Rose Tone and my roses do great. I like the front step planter combo have a similar situation I end p moving them around a lot to get the right placement.
Thank you so much! I'm going to give it a try.
love the pots they are beautiful. i know when you plant them up they are going to look even more beautiful. thank you for sharing with us. i love to know the prices on them.
Pretty selection of pots ❤ I also like a collection of pots around the back and front patios. I scored big today on Facebook Marketplace purchased 6 curved arch trellis for $100 can't wait to place them and see beautiful vining plants this year!
Looks very nice
Great selection of pots. Love Container growing on my porch ( with PW drip system). Cannot believe they had matching saucers And pot feet , 😮. Love the color of the pots you got at the first place!
Someone got a gift card for her birthday 🎉 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
A beautiful arrangement of containers , they are going to look great with flowers/plants. A welcoming sight.😍 I like groupings of containers , I only have 3 , on my porch. I definitely need more 😊. Thank you for the inspiration. Hi from Austria .🌼🌸🌼😍
Hi Steph, do you plant the spring bulbs in fall in the pots and leaves them out in winter or put them in shed then take them out? I love this idea. Looks beautiful.
You have such good taste Steph!! Love all the pots!!!
Love these planters!!
Pots (and arrangement of them) look fantastic! Well done!
Thanks so much Kristy! 😊
Great collection! I am excited to see them potted up.
I think your arrangement of pots is beautiful and can't wait to see the others planted up. Klaus would love it! Also, the terracotta planters with the scalloped design looks just like Berg's pots. Somebody mentioned Terrain has them. I have a place near me that also sells them and I pick up a couple each year because of the price. If I saw the pots you bought, I would have gone nuts. The Berg's pots in that size are around $40 so you got a phenomenal deal!
It’s going to be lovely Stef. I garden on a balcony so garden in pots. Love the Claus Dalby look as well. Have a great weekend 🪴
Love it!
Oh wow 🤩 I love the planters at Marshall’s especially those terracotta ones 🥰 lovely video Steph xx
The pot collection looks great! And you got some really good deals! I especially love the Italian pottery with the scallops, something I absolutely would have chosen also. Enjoy filling them all!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Love your selection 🌸
