I enjoy builds but really like the technique videos. Unboxings or reviews 0ccasionaly would be good but the essence of this channel is how to build so whether that's a "x hours" build or a "how to joint a body" video I'm happy
Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers. It's a testament to the quality of your channel and the strength of the guitar community, to which you richly contribute.
I think you've stumbled on an option to film. "I need an apprentice." Make a series of apprentice builds, lessons, contests and so on. Ben would be able to carry on a dialog as well as a monologue. Unless Ben doesn't play well with students, the discourse could be just as informative.
Chojin (madskyy) you could make it out of naturally pressure treated drowned hardwood. It's typical to find in areas like the great lakes and fresh water logging rivers. They're typically used for high end furniture and are pretty expensive but hell, why not build a solid body out of one:p
I really enjoy the What's on the bench weekly videos, and Ben's experimental videos, I'd really like to see Christopher take us through finishing a guitar from start to finish. He always seems a little nervous on camera but when he's talking about finishes you can really see his knowledge and passion come through. The finish on the Mutineer for example is stunning.
Since 2008 UA-cam has been my #1 source of entertainment and online content. And I can unequivocally say without a doubt that I have found more enjoyment out of your channel and your builds than anything else I have ever found! It's the culmination of 2 of my most favorite things, quality woodworking, and guitars!
Ben I enjoy watching your videos I have cancer and this makes my day to watch you build guitars. All my gutiars were stolen when I was in the hospital getting chemotherapy. But thank you for the little bit of joy by your viedos
I personally enjoy the long-form, relatively unedited style videos. It's fun (to me, anyway) to see everything along the way, even the "boring" stuff like sanding and fretwork.
Demonstrating how possible these impossible builds are is REALLY exciting to watch, and infectious! I get really pumped up watching these! Practically Anything involving the Crimson staff dropping their wisdom and expertise on us eager viewers is pure gold! I really enjoy all the fun stuff, like voice overs or the odd cigar box build, plus any techniques like using blowtorches etc., really "spark" my creativity! get it...spark? Try the veal, and tip your waitress! ;P
The Clarity series was a blast to watch. More of that type of videos :) For example a guitar like the Mutineer, Christopher’s Master Build would have made an epic series and so informative and amazing :)
I watch this channel for the expertise in guitar building. There are plentiful pedal and pickup talkshows, some of which are very good, but that's not what I'm here for. I build and repair guitars. I've got some kits on the go and some restorations. I think I came here for the fret level/dress/crown videos and progressed to refretting. I then decided to try a super cheap kit (like £50), reshaped the body, reshaped the neck, wound some single coils, used them in something else, bought some devilishly complicated laser-cut inlays and actually got them in ok, you get the idea. Finished it this week actually. 18 months. 8 days into a bass kit, i think i'll be done in 18. What do I want to see more of? The things I don't know I didn't know about guitar building. These are the things that usually come up watching you do something less rehersed, or listening to christopher on finish for more than a few seconds. Examples of previous gems of knowledge include how to cut a nut properly (like it's right on any mass-produced guitar...), superglue and masking tape, howto make an angled shim rather than use a slice of business card (that's what I keep seeing so it must be right...) and highlighting grain in a complementary colour rather than black, using a triangular file rather than those radiused crowning files, using a leveling beam to do most of the neck and fret work, how to do a conical neck profile without even thinking about it, the fall-away at the high frets.... so many little details I've found through watching videos on something tangentially related....
I noticed the cost of your kits is higher than the average kits on the market, but the quality of the wood is far superior! I recently finished 2 similar kits. While they are ok for a painted guitar, they would not match the look of your kits if they were stained. I think your kits are well worth the little extra cost, especially if going for a stained type finish.
Keep up the mix. We love your tool videos or we would not have subscribed! Ben, I’d bet most of your 100k subscribers are like me and don’t tell you we want because you are already doing it!!! We like getting an experienced craftsman’s point of view on tools and gear.
Since you asked: Yes, I'd like to see more builds. I like your "What's on the bench" series, that's always fun... and everything you guys do ends up being fun, really, but the bread and butter, in my opinion, were the build videos. It would be nice to see you return to those a bit more. Oh, and congrats on the 100,000 subscribers. Well deserved.
4:44 I liked how "mother" was bleeped out but "fucker" was heard fine haha. Ps, congrats. I've been watching your videos since about 5 or 10 thousand. It's been quite a few years, and I have to say I'm so happy that this channel grew so big. You guys make fantastic instruments, and you have a nice scalp tattoos haha. I remember when it was just a biohazard symbol. Once again, congrats!
I love the tutorials and the custom builds. I'd love a video series on each masterbuild that you do as well. Unboxing videos aren't as exciting. And I don't even watch the gear demos
What I would kill to see from you Ben, although it's likely never going to happen unless I get a go-pro or something and record myself doing it during one of your courses (with your permission) Is you doing what you do best: Building high-end, bespoke and beautiful instruments. I know it would be a nightmare to film and edit a full build, no time restraints, no pressure, just you doing your job, but I think it would be awesome to see what you can do when you're not under a time-crunch.
Can I suggest that when doing a build you go into a lot more detail of measurements i.e. string height and intonation/scale length please. Also more in-depth tuition on the final set-up of a guitar build. Like your videos very much Ben, hope you reach 250k subscriptions very soon. keep up the good work.
While I truly love these times builds & the builds in general, I also am really into the tools & what they are, how they work, why & when you should use this or that for this & that. If I just wanted to see guitars being built, I can do a google or you tube search & find tons & tons upon tons & tons. I am fine with the thought of you taking your time to edit the content into a more refined product, but think that as a guild member myself, the type of content should not change. I what more how to's. I've already learned a lot & can't wait to learn more. If people want to see more guitars being built, they should start building there own. They need to learn how to do it though & if they don't want to learn, they should .... ... Thanks Ben for everything so far. Can't wait to see whats next.
Where do I find the video detailing the advantage of a step drill over a piloted counterbore? I'm looking at this and cringing over the amount of materiel removed for the bolt flanges.
Please do an acoustic build. If not a full build then some tips on how to do preventive maintenance on one. It's different but come on, if anyone can do it then it's Ben.
There have only been a couple of videos in the last few years that I got halfway through and couldn't be bothered seeing any more, I am interested in all aspects of guitar production and repair so I like most of the stuff you put out, I like the variety of all the different things you do. Well, except for maybe the copper, I see why some people might like it but, nah. I think the unboxing vids can be a little tedious but if you say unbox pickups, put them into a waiting all but complete guitar and get a Toby/Phil demo in the same vid they would work better.
Hi Ben and your team, I've been a huge fan of your channel for a long while now, and have watched hours and hours of fab content... so keep up the good work.. I have a question can you do a bass build that is along the lines of Spector/ Warwick with a throu neck design ... wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a superb 2018... rob
While it may horryfy the hand builders, could yo have a vid or two with tips for using a CNC. Like best pratices for locating pins, tab. Machining on two sides.. At what point to stop CNCing and hand finish. I emailed this question and realise you CNC man is very busy but would be useful to some of us at some point.
Love your videos! What I would like to see more thought is how you deal with problems you encounter. All your builds seem to be too easy to be true ;) I know that you're a master of this art, but the rest of the world is not ;) Keep up the good work!
at 1:47 I think voice over Ben would have said ..."What Hair!!" What would I like too see ...Hmmmm I'd like to see Ben playing flemenco guitar on a 6 string short scale fretless bass guitar...
Mark Dennehy True, there are plenty of cringe-worthy moments here, and hopefully, some will benefit from your thoughtful remark. Sure, Ben's not going to hurt himself (much), but he's far more skilled than the average kit buyer.
Also.. you asked what we'd like to see... i read on a forum about using superglue as a gloss finish ... yes thats right.. superglue! simply for the guy at home without a means of spaying clea rcoat or with out the finances ... could you do a demo on super glue as a finish pleeeeease?! the £5 guitar finish ;)
Seriously, well done on the 100K subs. Nice to see that there is so much interest in luthiery in general. BUT... Please don't devote ALL your time to builds. Yes they are fun, but some of us at least would like to see specific techniques demonstrated and explained. Phew! My mind put at rest, then! Having been watching your channel since i saw the "relicing" a PRS (what happened to that vid, BTW?) post, i have gone from just being an idle watcher, to getting geared up for my own builds. Now the proud owner of a Record bandsaw (on your recommendation!) albeit the smaller version, a couple of used Stanley planes (learning how to fettle/sharpen them) a decent set of chisels, (also being fettled) etc. This channel has emboldened me to actually getting to the stage of seriously getting involved with guitar making. Through your guidance, i successfully managed to massively improve the fretting on a bought neck, stain a guitar body, and now for the real thing! My own guitar from scratch. Many thanks for all your vids (even the occasional clunker demo of a pedal...naming no names!) and here's looking forward to the next 100K subs!
A 7 year old girl also just reached 100,000 subs, and all she does is shoot various guns at various targets. She's been on UA-cam for all of one year now.
totally agree.. thats one of the things that makes this a unique channel is bens tangents and digressions!! aside the educational content.. its a big part of the videos!
I would love to see a Gibson 335 type hollow body build, as you most likely know its not a carved shape, the top, back and sides are three thin plys glued into shape while clamped in a positive and negative form. Would love to see you make those, perhaps one with and one without the use of a CNC.
Consider releasing older content and builds onto youtube after a year or something, so us youtube folk that helped you GET to 100k get to enjoy some builds and "premium" content from time to time, please? Also, you can do what you did with the 6 hour build, and do unboxings for pickups and stuff during the build videos. Make videos featuring new hardware that are going to go on the build, and allow time for unboxings and features, and then either include them as they happen, or include a proper unboxing during the inevitable demo video that happens at the end. Finally, with regards to new videos, do NOT forget voice-overs please, ben. Maybe do some directors commentary with james, christopher or tom as a sort of mini-podcast over the top. Hell, even grab a student or two and get their perspective on what you're doing.
Builds, tutorials, and insights (tangents...) are what make this channel special. There's a million other UA-cam guitar channels that do unboxings and gear demos already.
I personally enjoy the unboxing videos and showing off tools and such. But in general I will watch anything with Ben in it, he has a brilliant and fun personality that just makes any video he's in joyful to watch. I enjoy listening to people who are just so invested and in love with their craft, it brings a happiness to your soul that really nothing else can.

I am still waiting for the 100 year build where Ben only uses tools from his cabinet older than 100 years to build a modern guitar.
Or he takes 100 years to finish it. Probably he starts it and his kids finish it up.
Would that be hard to find? Wood that was cut 100 years ago? or that is growing for 100 years?
Chojin (madskyy) you could make it out of naturally pressure treated drowned hardwood. It's typical to find in areas like the great lakes and fresh water logging rivers. They're typically used for high end furniture and are pretty expensive but hell, why not build a solid body out of one:p
You all have jumped the shark!
Chojin (madskyy) Nah. Just drag it up from the bottom of the river. Then make Ben do it with stone tools, lol!

More builds! Build contests between master builders.
How about an 8 hour master builder kit competition?
I personally enjoy the long-form, relatively unedited style videos. It's fun (to me, anyway) to see everything along the way, even the "boring" stuff like sanding and fretwork.
First clicking the "like", then lean back with a coffe. Allways entertaining and interesting! Thanks Ben😃
Hand tool only build. That’s what we want to see.
Tumbling Bill
We all know, he can do it. No need to put that unnecessary effort into it. He better has energy left for creativity😉
Demonstrating how possible these impossible builds are is REALLY exciting to watch, and infectious! I get really pumped up watching these! Practically Anything involving the Crimson staff dropping their wisdom and expertise on us eager viewers is pure gold! I love watching these video's because every process is done properly with the correct tools and it's nice to see in today's robotical world
The Clarity series was a blast to watch. More of that type of videos :) For example a guitar like the Mutineer, Christopher’s Master Build would have made an epic series and so informative and amazing :)
Congratulations Ben, you definitely deserve it !
What I would love to see, are acoustic guitars!!

I like setup/repair videos, and also seeing the end result(build OR repair) in the hands of the player, famous or not!! Congrats and cheers!
Congrats! I think that guitar build videos are definitely the ones I enjoy the most. I'm liking your idea at 17:15
It was the 25 hour build that got me to subscribe in the first place. More builds would be great!
I noticed the cost of your kits is higher than the average kits on the market, but the quality of the wood is far superior! I recently finished 2 similar kits. To be honest this channel deserves more than 100k I really enjoy your content and keep up the good work

Congrats Ben.you have one of the top channel's on youtube thanks again my friend.

100,004 subscribers, awesome job Ben and all at Crimson guitars of awesomeness!! What ya gonna do when you hit 200k???
Something about the common sense to round off the corner of those awful neck joints just gets me so excited
Can I suggest that when doing a build you go into a lot more detail of measurements i.e. string height and intonation/scale length please. Also more in-depth tuition on the final set-up of a guitar build. Like your videos very much Ben, hope you reach 250k subscriptions very soon. keep up the good work.
Many Congratulations!! Cheers to All, G :D
Love this channel I thought bill bailey had gone into making guitars lol. Ben even sounds like him. Quality work
Congrats! Love this channel.
I love watching you build guitars, start to finish. Can we also see Christopher, Tom, Sam and maybe the odd student doing a build?
I don't mean the students are odd - well, maybe Spencer and Jules!
Looking forward what sort of an inlay you put there 😄
Build a bass please.
Just like a guitar with a longer neck truss rod
Less strings and a different bridge.
Krusty Buzzard really is that all you have to do?
Saul Goode it's not much different now is it.
Congrats!
While I truly love these times builds & the builds in general, I also am really into the tools & what they are, how they work, why & when you should use this or that for this & that. Traces of "Sparks" in that intro!
keep up the hard work
Where do I find the video detailing the advantage of a step drill over a piloted counterbore? I'm looking at this and cringing over the amount of materiel removed for the bolt flanges.
What do I want? Build a bass...!!!
Please do an acoustic build. If not a full build then some tips on how to do preventive maintenance on one. It's different but come on, if anyone can do it then it's Ben.
I want a Flying V guitar build.
There have only been a couple of videos in the last few years that I got halfway through and couldn't be bothered seeing any more, I am interested in all aspects of guitar production and repair so I like most of the stuff you put out, I like the variety of all the different things you do. I think the unboxing vids can be a little tedious but if you say unbox pickups, put them into a waiting all but complete guitar and get a Toby/Phil demo in the same vid they would work better.
Where can I find the knobs you used? They're neat.
Congratulations on 100 k
Hi Ben and your team, I've been a huge fan of your channel for a long while now, and have watched hours and hours of fab content... so keep up the good work.. I have a question can you do a bass build that is along the lines of Spector/ Warwick with a throu neck design ... wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a superb 2018... rob
I want some fanned fret extended range build tutorials please.
Can't say I have seen someone use a step drill to counterbore bushing holes before. Not my first or last choice.
Did you ever try to stain and then slighty burn a piece of wood?
Can you do a hardtail s-type kit?
Congratulations 👍👍👌👌
When your Single-cut Kits hopefully come out in the future, will you do an extended build on one of those?
ok... I'll take you up on that apprenticeship offer... that's what I want to do
Ben you are crazy! Hahahahaha :) Seriously awesome!
Love your videos! What I would like to see more thought is how you deal with problems you encounter. All your builds seem to be too easy to be true ;) I know that you're a master of this art, but the rest of the world is not ;) Keep up the good work!
Gotta say these challenges must have Ben pulling his hair out.... no wait, scratch that....
I want to see ben do a video on how to do a galaxy finish
at 1:47 I think voice over Ben would have said ..."What Hair!!" What would I like too see ...Hmmmm I'd like to see Ben playing flemenco guitar on a 6 string short scale fretless bass guitar...
Using a cone bit to ountersink the screw holes for the neck creates a gap between the wall and the screw giving it no purchase. Not a good idea.
And OSHA complaining about striking two hardened hammer faces together without sufficient eye protection in 3... 2... 1...
Ben, never, never, hit the faces of two hammers together .not if you value your sight !
Build videos and tips
Seriously, well done on the 100K subs. Nice to see that there is so much interest in luthiery in general. BUT...
Please don't devote ALL your time to builds. Yes they are fun, but some of us at least would like to see specific techniques demonstrated and explained. I know there is a back catalogue, and there is a huge amount of info there, but there are opportunities for more detailed videos. Say a vid specifically on using routers...what type of bits we should buy, their use and upkeep, how to best use them, ect. ect. (as any fule kno!) As some of us (i mean me, here, specifically) want to actually build guitars, rather than just watch them be built, your technical prowess sometimes needs to be explained in more depth. Maybe, if you are going to decrease the number of vids per month, you could do one or two a month specifically on one technical aspect. Anybody agree in general with this idea?
+Tim Beaton hey Tim, I agree with you fully.. I should have been more specific.. I'm planning less ads, unboxings etc and more full builds and tutorial /mini-torials.. At least one informative video a week will be coming out on top of the what's on the bench etc.
I like how mother was bleeped out but fucker wasn't
More tool videos please
it took longer for you to get the timer to work than to finish the build
just watched the build blue led
Ben I'm already under enough stress starting my second build before I've finished up my first, what are you trying to do to me? 😂😂😂
dude reminds me so much of Russell Crowe, i feel lile im watching the gladiator make guitars
Do you ever work on classical guitars? How about a acoustic guitar build.(?).
Single bridge Humbucker, huh?
A 7 year old girl also just reached 100,000 subs, and all she does is shoot various guns at various targets. She's been on UA-cam for all of one year now.
100,001!
At 17.08, 'fewer'.
obsessed with the fact that you only censored the "mother" part of "Motherfucker"
I unfortunately could either do it fast, or do it right.. not both maybe not either
Pretty sure the router was in the same key as the music playing
I resubscribed. You told me to
+c ef now give me all your love! Or money.. Um, how about both :) B
But then I can't buy one of your kits!!!
More tools!
Why do I swear I hear "Eye of the tiger" during this? It's just me, I guess.
The beeped out profanity was missed... we clearly heard what you said.. a tad late there on the edit
great video, just one thing can you play more than 1 song in a vid
just gets old real quick, thanks.
I’d love to see you build an acoustic guitar. I understand that a lot more goes into making one but I have faith in you ben.
I mean the man carved violins before this, can't be that hard for him
Congrats!
When will we see the all-hand-tool build?
Do more complete and in depth builds with as many digressions and tangents as possible :)
totally agree.. thats one of the things that makes this a unique channel is bens tangents and digressions!! aside the educational content.. its a big part of the videos!
He has done very detailed build videos-take a look at the content, go back a few months. Variety of format is always useful.
yeah keep sighing and looking at the camera continually as well we love that bit :)
Reminds me of Stewie Griffin all grown up. But less evil.
Hear, Hear!
I want to see you build a double-neck guitar. Not sure if that's something you've already done on here, but I want to see it!
