Sadly you still can’t log into Xcode or the App Store on a virtual macOS machine. Getting better and I’m always shocked how terrible VMware fusion is compared to parallels
Parallels is the leading virtualization software, offering unmatched stability, comprehensive features, and an excellent overall experience. However, the subscription model is the one downside for me. I would prefer a higher one-time payment over recurring monthly fees.
Here’s a rewrite of your comparison: A one-time purchase of Parallels costs €129.99 and is only valid for a specific version. When a new major macOS update is released, you'll need to upgrade to the next version of Parallels, which requires a new license costing €69.99. So, the comparison is between paying €99.99 annually versus €129.99 in the first year and €69.99 for each subsequent year.
No doubt it’s a good SW. but I recently checked who the founder of the company is and where it was mainly developed, and decided to switch to VMware Fusion.
My Windows laptop has 96GB RAM + 3TB NVME so I can run VMs + Docker + VS2022 + SQL Server + Chrome 50 tabs, all at the same time. The 96GB DDR5 kit cost me 210 dollars. The extra 2TB PCIE5 NVME SSD about 250. How much would something like that cost in Mac world? 5K? 10K?
Can you please name your laptop model? Which CPU? How is performance? Is your laptop faster or at least same performance tier as Macbook M1/M2 (not pro/max)? Thank you

How is it at running x86_64 linux vs. UTM? My son keeps using UTM with linux and Haiku, and it's unstable and dog slow on his m3 pro. Slow like slower than linux on a raspberry pi 3. That's 3, not 4.
For work I have to use an x86_64 VM on my M2 air. It runs great on Parallels, even without Rosetta 2. And I can confirm, emulating x86_64 runs on UTM, but terribly slow.
As a blind developer using mac parallel is still not an option. Voiceover screen reader doesn't manage QT and I think parallel is made with qt? That's why I stick with VMWare Fusion currently. Ok QT has never been good when it comes to accessibility even on windows but still. Microsoft recommends it officially.
Definitely no need to feel ashamed of not being familiar with EVERY freaking hot-buzz technology & development tool out there. It is literally impossible to keep up with everything now and in reality, never any real need to keep up with EVERYTHING. That is correct. Unfortunately, the minimum requirements will be m3+ and Sequoia; we still are unaware if it will be in Sequoia 15.0 or a higher version
Something which wasn't immediately apparent to me until I had already installed Parallels, is that their licensing is per-machine, not per-user. If you have more than one machine, Parallels will refuse to run on your second (or third, fourth, etc...) machine until you close it on your first one. Being a subscription application (yet another...) the price increase for a second machine isn't a one-time cost, but a recurrent one (and at least at the time I'd checked it out a couple of years back, was very well hidden). Developers, devops, and sysadmin types tend to have a few machines, and this limit was frustrating to run into (and an expensive recurrent ask to overcome).
VMware Fusion Pro is now free for personal/non-commercial use! Maybe not so “powerful” as Parallels but it works like a charm on my M3 Max MBP with Win11-arm…(maybe my comment will be deleted as Alex obviously promotes Parallels)
