Samuel West talking about art history really takes me back. He used to narrate a BBC documentary series called The Private Life of a Masterpiece. He has a wonderful voice for narration.
Coincidence: Anthony Blunt and Elizabeth had a dramatic confrontation in Alan Bennett's A QUESTION OF ATTRIBUTION. In the television version of that play, Elizabeth was portrayed by Prunella Scales, the mother of Samuel West.
You could've knocked me over with a feather when he showed up, I was tickled pink. I loved Samuel in Cambridge Spies! Well, to be honest, I loved all the guys in Cambridge Spies, but Samuel ended up being my favorite!
Both artists Caracci and Gentileschi are better known among people more interested in art. One would not necessarily expect Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to know Annibale Caracci or Artemisia Gentileschi. I bet HMQ has some knowledge about Van Dyck, Rubens, Gainsborough, Constable, Reynolds, Romney, Turner, Augustus John, Lucian Freud, David Hockney, and owns some of them. If anyone is interested in another treatment of Queen Elizabeth II and the then Sir Anthony Blunt, I suggest a scene from Alan Bennett's play A Question of Attribution which has been available on UA-cam. The scene in question includes corgis and a Queen who can ask subtle questions. She also has an invisible iron hand within a velvet glove. HMQ is played by Prunella Scales, very well, and the inimitable James Fox as Sir Anthony Blunt.
I watched this episode after watching Howards End. I haven’t watched the whole series, but what I was thinking of was why wasn’t Samuel West playing Anthony Armstrong Jones instead? He and Helena Bonham Carter have great chemistry in Howards End.

Another interesting fact, Prunella Scales is Samuel West’s mother
