    BRO THANK YOU. this is like the only video online even mentioning that the top glass is a thing. Nowhere else online even talks about it it's hard to find any search result about the top back glass and not the entire back/bottom part

      You're welcome 👋🏽. Hahhaha Pixel is surely another level of complexity. People don't want to work too much on it. Glad you found what you were looking for.

    Thank you. Recently, the top back plate of my Google Pixel 8 Pro also broke. I live in a country where Google Pixel is not officially released, so I cannot receive service, but I succeeded in replacing it myself through this video.

    Just completed the repair for my Pixel 7 Pro. While it doesn't look exactly the same, this video helped me a lot in choosing the right techniques and tools as the process indeed was almost identical (just watch out for a different antenna that comes loose really easily in 7 Pro). Thank's for posting :)

    So, so helpful, thank you so much. Is the idea behind using the alcohol that it helps lubricate the blade and dissolve the existing glue? Also, do you have any tips for purposefully cracking the glass in the place where you say you should start? Mine is cracked more on the edge. I don't want to really, really damage the phone though. Perhaps a screwdriver, hammer, and a light tap? Thanks again. Videos like this are what remind me how great the internet can be.

      You can start where yours is cracked but very often it will leave scratches. Where I started has a small hole right below the glass which allows a crack to happen. Using the blade with alcohol is the safest way to avoid too much alcohol and ultimately avoid alcohol going inside the device or alcohol going to the screen and working its way between the screen and the metal frame. The device is metal so for the crack I would just give a new tap with a metal object it should crack. Or easiest would be to tap righ aboe the initial crack so that it cracks further to the other area until it arrives to the area I started to remove the glass. Like I said you can start right where you have the crack with the blade and alcohol if it starts working you just continue removing the broken glass. Just make sure you let the alcohol go in between the cracked glass and frame then use the blade to remove the glass. !! Be carefull not to cut yourself etc... Safety glass also is recommended as these small blades can break and fly in any direction when you apply lot of force to go between the glass and frame. Safety first 👍🏽.

      @@ersbit Thank you for all the tips! Especially the safety glasses. You're going above and beyond! I'll order the parts soon and try this.

    Hey ... The part you used was that original or non branded?

    • @ersbit
      @ersbit  5 місяців тому +1

      I got it online. The link to the part is in the description. Now original or oem that's another topic. You can get Original "original" from Google but they do not sell to people. Those online if the color match perfectly that's good enough. They use the same materials etc....it's not like Google used glass and aftermarket used plastic...those kind of stuff. I also try to put parts that's I believe can replace original without looking like something happened 👍🏽.

    Once you've replaced the cracked top back glass, would you say it is water resistant again, oooor do you think that has been lost forever? Thanks for the informative video, Id like to try fixing but it doesnt half look like a ballache to get that existing glass off!

    • @ersbit
      @ersbit  4 місяці тому

      I personally would not think of the device as water resistant again as the way Google seals the back glass top and bottom is very complex and that's how it keeps the water resistance. Replacing it and adding b7000 to seal the back would unfortunately not keep the device water resistance specially if you submerge the phone fully.

    Why did you decide not to use a hair dryer to remove the broken part?

    • @ersbit
      @ersbit  3 місяці тому

      I started with heat on the Pixel 7 Pro but it was not helping so that's how I started using the alcohol method. You may try heat at first to see if how it goes but I didn't get better result. Only 99% alcohol was efficient.

    On my pixel 8, non pro, this top part is plastic... Is it only glass on pro models?

  • @guidogool9117
    @guidogool9117 6 місяців тому +1

    My Pixel 8 cracked the back cover, so it is no longer water resistant? Or does it not interfere?

    • @ersbit
      @ersbit  6 місяців тому

      It depends if the Crack is at the center and does not have a hole and the glass is only cracked technically it is still water resistant but won't be ip68 as it was before. Since you cannot see exactly if there's a tiny hole on the Crack I would not consider it water resistant whenever there's a Crack on the back just to avoid a bad surprise.
