I bought a used car yesterday and found that the previous owner had lost the key to the fuel cap. As per usual someone's always been in the same awkward spot and has been generous enough to show others a solution via UA-cam. Thanks for posting your video.
Hi sir. I am from Mauritius and i have tried your trick for opening locked gas cap and it worked in exactly 1 minute.i am very happy and grateful to you.Thank you so much
Bought a truck with a locking cap and a lock over the gas door. Seller gave a key. That key fit neither. Sawzall for the external lock and, thanks to you, my huge groove pliers for the cap. Worked like a dream. :)
Haha, no problem. This stuff only stops the more "honest" thieves. Having a tank of fuel stolen would be cheaper than having someone drilling your fuel tank.
Thanks bro..i tried everything ..even removed the locked bit with a screwdriver..then i watched you using the wrench..it done the job first time...thanks
Thank you so much for making this video I was literally right now I'm standing at the gas pump realized I left my key did not know what to do so I said hey let me try UA-cam thank you so much for making the video I never know anything about you I will subscribe thank you so much you are a God bless I was going to pick up my children from school
Good video, I just bought a locking motorad cap for my f350, more so to protect from vandalism and theft. After I installed it I had a ‘oh shit what happens if the lock fails moment’ I will save this video on my phone incase that ever happens!
No problem, happy to help! Only thing I would be cautious about, if someone decides to steal your fuel, they may drill the tank instead. But it will stop someone from dumping something in your tank.
Dude, I love your videos! Just discoved them. You're hard work was not in vain. They're clear, short, logical, articulate, well spoken, intelligent (people underestimate just how hard it is to make a good, to the point, understandable video with intelligent content). Good man! Well done! All of them. Superb! Glad to see you're still at it and hope you're doing well. Keep it going. Do you have videos on car electrical systems, using multimeters, parasitic drain, etc? I ask because most of the videos on these topics -- most, not all -- are long, unclear, skip over the most hard to understand parts. Anyway, great job, keep it going, stay safe and God bless!
Thank you so much for the feedback and kind words! I do have some electrical tutorials and am hoping to add more. Here is the playlist I've put together specially for those types of videos ua-cam.com/play/PLD7BFBBF628EF2525.html There are a couple that is vehicle specific, however a similar process can be used on other vehicles too.
@@4DIYers No, thank you, for your well-considered reply. Most thoughtful of you and I and I'm sure your viewers appreciate it very much. I'll check out the playlist. Thanks Dude, and God bless!
Worked for me! First time I put the screw in though, I put it too close to the centre or something and it didn't work. Then moved the screw a bit further out and off alignment with the turned key and it worked.
Thanks, worked like a charm. Bought a truck that didn't come with a gas cap key. I did loose a little faith in these caps though. I guess it would stop the uninformed.
the owner of my favorite gas station where I live manages to remove locking gas caps without using a key. He does it so quickly without damaging the cap itself... He always brags about the secret method he knows, and wont ever share how he does it. I've witnessed him do it to several different types of locking caps.
It's pretty odd that that can be bypassed so easily. I would've thought that the lock applied some bar to the inside like a lock on a door or something.
I think it's only intent is keeping out the honest people. Someone could easily drill a tank now, especially with the plastic versions making it so easy.
It is actually really hard to defeat if you are high on meth. This is too prevent a meth addict from stealing and selling your gas for meth. It can't be so hard that it would require the owner to get a new gas tank and fill pipe if it couldn't be remove. It is mainly a deterrent so it is open to thieves who will then move on to easier targets. If there are no other targets around the thieve will get the gas if they set their mind to it. However now the thief has to carry a drill and a self tapping screw. A drill in the middle of the night is probably loud and can bring unwanted attention to the thief.

You are so very welcome!
The cap on my Tacoma seized, didn't want parts falling into the tank. Will try this out so I can get gas and still have a cap for a few days. Thanks!
Bingo! Channel locks worked mint. My first idea was to smash lock with screw driver and hammer haha
Happy to help!

This is great - but how do you remove a non-locking fuel cap that just revolves and won't come off?
Try the same thing.
Well it worked thanks for that
No problem, happy to help!
Saved me some time! thanks
Great to hear!
Thank you now i can get gas without busting cap.

thanks, I can get some free gas now 🙌🏽
needed this but now i question the validity of installing on now.
cool ,thank you
gonna try this on my f350 gas cap is locked in place the key works just wont come out
Can it be any screw
The screw works
I hope this trick works. I'm outta gas and cap is broken..
Nice
Thanks!
The MethHeads will love this! lol
LOL... Well in my defence, it's probably better to have a broken fuel cap than a hole in your tank.
Smart!
Thank you!
Now only the idiots that steal gas won't know how to break into a gas tank cap lock.
Well that was fucking obvious. How stupid am I
Lol, happens to all of us.
Nice
Thanks!
