  • This Belgian artist stopped recording but a number of my subscribers tild me he's back with a new single, and soon, new album. Needless to say, I was excited to check out the song.
He's a special artist, I think and this video did not disappoint in its simplicity and punch.
Warning: I stop and start the video with comments. Move on if this is not something you like. All good.

Those movements are the most reliable, representing a panic attack, the feeling that everything is going 1,000 per hour, the lack of air, the feeling of mental dullness, Stromae is a genius transmitting everything he feels both musically and visually.

I have depression... the thing I relate more aren't the lyrics... it's the moment he sreams silently, or fight with the void (i always burst in tears watching that)..... and the head tilt at 4:44

One might hope it opens the conversation. Mental health is still a taboo although many people have experienced some type of mental pain during their lives. We need to learn to talk again, be open w each other. Ask 'how are you doing?': little talks, big effects. I hope you feel supported.

Oh, thank you!!! I just watched a completely disrespectful reaction of this song on a random channel I had to watch another one before sleeping ah ah! he presented this title in an interview on sunday night's newscast and therefore sang about suicide and mental health problems in front of millions of viewers who thought they were seeing a simple interview. stromae did not stop his career voluntarily..he reacted to anti-malaria treatment because he had so do his tour in Africa. "I thought I had gone crazy," explains the Belgian singer. I couldn't stand my antimalarial treatment, it gave me hallucinations.I was diagnosed with psychic decompensation. I could have done some, I wasn't myself anymore" he still has sequels today. thank you for that great reaction !

I totally understand your comment. A little while ago I watched a reaction clip of Stromae clip Qand c'est? His song about cancer and how it effected his parents. The two doing the reaction video talked through half the video, missing his message, but to make it worse they said how the graphics looked like the game Zelda and kept talking about that.

My take on the zooming out, is that he wants to show his loneliness, powerlessness. We're granted a glance into his thoughts and see how lonely he is. He tries to fight but can only lose. Look at the Spartan scene; there's him and something to sit on. And that wonderful usage of lighting. As you zoom out, you see he's all on his own, terribly on his own.
    Terminally on his own.
A song that drives me to tears every. Single. Time.
I think we've all been where he was when he wrote this song.

The vocals in the beginning are Bulgarian. This is a very traditional folklore singing and it is known for having an epic or if you wish - cosmic sound. The leading vocalist is Stefka Miteva who is the founder of this Paris-based Bulgarian folklore trio Orenda.

He is holding a dialogue with his mental state. Pure genius!
A mental breakdown during his African Tour left him knocked out for years. He really battled and stopped effectively making music. So his comeback is so great and I appreciate it fondly.
This song taught me a lesson. I'm a hardcore border liner! - Either it reduces me to a shivering heap of snot and tears or I sing along at the top of my lungs like I was the King of the World.

Little info...he had a bad reaction to a malaria tablet when preparing to tour in Africa (I believe 2013) and stopped the tour and making music due to the depression and anxiety from the medication. Please watch quand c'est? It is so visual...I will eat my shoe if you don't love it immediately (lol) His play on words is genius. Really appreciate your reactions.

I feel, when he turns his head and says "not too much though" it's the voices talking to him. He turns his head because hes hearing those voices tell him that he shouldn't get his hopes up. It's like he's looking them in the eye and they are in the sky looking down on him. He's trying to get out of the situation, trying to make it into something positive and not feel the guilt trip all the time. but those voices come back again. And I agree that in the end of the video he is talking to himself. It's very powerful somehow. I love stromae. This song hit me hard.

Dear Lukas! First of all, I'm glad this video has been unlocked. I hope it doesn't happen again, especially to your reactions. What can I say about this video, about this song?...WOW! Yes, I admit I've never heard of tis singer before. This piece is ''heavy'' , from the point of view emotional. He who has not known loneliness in the true sense of the word cannot understand this piece. Loneliness is one of the most terrible diseases of the soul, especially today. This loneliness has many faces and can manifest in many ways. It is that deep loneliness that you feel when you lose loved ones in your life and when your soul is devastated by their longin, or you can feel alone and when you are surrounded by many people, but you are practically ,more lonely than ever. Unfortunately, there are very few people who come to help you with a good word or advice and make you feel better. The world has become so dehumanized that they are no longer interested in other people. We live in a huge world, but with few PEOPLE! A selfish and very materialistic world. Today, money matters more that man. You need extraordinarily great power to fight with you, to overcome this state of loneliness . Of course, unfortunately, not everyone succeeds and many lose their minds or simply think about suicide, because they find no purpose in this world. This singer may have been in such a state. In any case , the lyrics of this song speak about this feeling and the singer both by singing, but especially by gesture, by this ''language'' of te body.Feeling that he ''sinking'', he tries to fight with his thoughts, with this loneliness that for him is equivalent to hell. That gesture of the eyes ,the head and the body, you can associate them with the madness and the inability to control you gestures in such situations. Maybe this comment is a bit harsh, or painful, but the song is not in a ''samba'' rhythm. Basically the filming is very simple, no decoration, withe walls, everything is bland, even the singer's clothing is simple and white, just to introduce you as deep as possibile in the athmosphere of this song and its condition. The singer is good, no doubt. I love directing this video. From the beginning to the end of this song, the director introduced us, and then took us of the mind of this artist, through his eyes, very expressive eyes otherwise. Dear Lukas, again and again, the same extraordinarly beautiful and good impression you leave, when you react to these videos. I like that you into the smallest details, when you react to video, and you're not just happy with the song itself. In fact , this is where the actor and director Lukas Hassel speaks, and then the man who loves music. In any case, I know that you are attentive and interested in the inner state and feelings of man, more than in the ''glaze'' of his exterior. You are a man of quality and not of quantity. It can be seen in the comments of this song. You are very concerned with discovering all the inner aspects, all the feeling and emotions that a person can experience. This is very clear in the roles you approach. You transpose perfectly into the character's condition, regardless of the role ,so you simply make the viewer feel the same as the character you play. This is call infinite talent, dedication and pleasure to play. You are a sensitive person, and you transmit sensivity. By the way, not everyone knows that you were recently awarded at a Film Festival as '' Best Actor''....... I'm glad that this video was replayed and I had the opportunity to see it. THANKS LUKAS, it was great !

Hi Lukas, I was introduced to Stromae by my old man (80 now, maybe 75 then...), he discovered him with his song "Formidable" some years ago and shared it with me (great song as well...). I have not closely followed his ways, but watched several of his videos, and each one was very special, highly artistic, always great musically, and deep lyrics... this new song I got to know via a reaction on another channel, but not with the official video, but a very amazing live performance he did during a French TV news broadcast two days ahead of the video release, he went seamlessly and very unexpectedly from an interview into actually singing this song, I'll link that recording below, you'll find it interesting as he talks about the background of this song and his new album (to be released march 22nd) - I heard that this created a lot of buzz in France as some critics found it inappropriate that he sung about suicidal thoughts in a main news program watched by millions of people... today my Dad told me that the "Süddeutsche Zeitung", a big German newspaper he subbed to had a long article about that interview and song and said it was very positive, he'll keep it for me to read on my next visit to Munich...anyway, here's that live TV performance:

The change of lighting might represent day and night. Like he has these thoughts day after day. Then when he talks about TV it is dark. So maybe insomnia, watching TV/social media/news through the night and it just makes it worse
Or it could represent the cycle of his feelings. Going from ok to in the dark regularly. then when he speaks of TV he's in a dark place.

Your sound level is a bit low, I recommend you to raise your recording level by 3-4 dB.
Stromae got through a hard depression induced by side effects of a preventive anti malaria drug (Lariam/Mefloquine) during his world tour in 2015. He took this drug because he went to Rwanda, his father's country. These rare (1/10000) side effects are really pernicious because depression relapes can last more than ten years.
