    I've only now found myself dealing with Cub transmission problems and I've definitely decided that your videos have good value. Learning some sweet tricks of the trade from you Dave. Thank you!

    The reason the PTO shaft was ruined was that the previous repairman put the seal on backwards on the front seal on the transmission. Putting it on correctly will push the shaft back approximately 3/8" which will allow the spline to hook up to the PTO correctly. I noticed the seal was installed backwards again.

      Good point. Compare 3:00 and 3:55. I think it was replaced backwards.

      @@toma5153 Another thing that's not obvious is that the bearing needs to be installed so that the exposed balls face to the front of the tractor. That way the balls are lubricated correctly from the oil channel machined into the top of the transmission case. It's easy to do both of these incorrectly.

    Nice job! It's amazing that you have to take the whole tractor apart to repair something in the rear but I understand it's because the shaft that runs through the transmission. Must be an easier way! LOL Well, you definitely make it look easy my friend! Another great video!

      Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the vid. I may have been able to just split at the front of the transmission but it would have been difficult to ensure that the input shaft went through the release bearing into position to engage the clutch. Thanks for watching!

    Can you make a video showing how to put a Woods belly mower 59 on a Farmall Cub tractor?? I have Connie got everything figured out except the outer pulley I have no drawbar or anything underneath to attach it to.. a video of one being installed would help me immensely.. thank you for your videos!!

      I am glad you enjoy the videos unfortunately it's not very likely I will be able to help with the mower deck as I don"t know of any Cub mower decks around to video an installation, I'm sorry. If you check in with the good folks at the Cub bulletin board group ( farmallcub.com) I am sure they would be able to help you out. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the great video. Where do you manage to find parts for these old tractors? I'm in Alberta and I have a 1945 Farmall A , I have purchased a few parts from the states but the shipping is crazy. Any local Canadian suppliers you recommend?

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  3 роки тому +3

      I operate a tractor salvage yard in NB so I get a lot of the parts from my own stock and some more from aftermarket suppliers I deal with. www.chowntractorparts.com Thanks for watching!

    Hey Dave, would be good to see something on Hydraulic's (like the belly pumps on the H's) or a Mag rebuild.

      I don't have much around by way of hydraulic parts but I think I could do something with a magneto. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Dave, I am learning a lot from your videos. Any chance on getting a video on changing the bearing on the upper range gears from a International 444. The lower range works fine it's just the upper range gears that make a loud rattling sound. Thanks and keep them coming.

      I am glad you are enjoying the videos, share them with all your friends who like to wrench on stuff! :) I have a 414 to take apart before too long (same transmission), I should be able to cover it with that.

    One thing I noticed is that you didn't wedge the front axle which is highly recommended when splitting a Cub from all the things I have read.

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 років тому +1

      You are absolutely right, it is very important to wedge the front axle or the tractor is likely to flop on its side. I actually did wedge the axle, I just didn't point it out, an oversight on my part. Thank you for your interest and hanks for watching!

    HI Dave. Hope you are well. I was wondering, Can the pto seals for the Cub be changed from the outside without removing the pto shaft? Can I just pick them out and reinstall from the outside?

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  4 роки тому +1

      I believe you should be able to yes, it's just on the outside of the bearing in the PTO shaft retainer.
      Thanks for watching!

    nice Job, how long did it take you to finish this job? Also, how many time have you split a tractor in half, you make it look so easy!

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 років тому +1

      Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the video. The job took about 6 hours, but both my father and I worked at it most of that time. I operate a tractor salvage yard so I have split well over 1000 tractors, I have put considerably less than that back together and that is the tricky part. :)

    Found the issue, the PTO had a tooth missing on the spline. So I'm in good shape

  • @SchnelleKat

    Very nice, video!! I got a 51 Cub, I'm gonna be hopefully restoring next year. Would this be worth it too split the tractor and take a look at my PTO Shaft and Input, also my Steering box is leaked how do i go fixing that?

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  5 років тому +2

      You should be able to pull the rear PTO shaft and take the plate off the rear of the differential housing to see the PTO driving shaft without splitting the tractor, you will be able to tell from there if you need to split and replace the shaft. There are seals for both the worm shaft (the one the steering wheel is on) and the sector shaft ( the one that comes through the bottom of the box) that you can replace to stop your steering box leaks. Thanks for watching!

    Hello. I found trans fluid in my bellhousing. I suspect the rear main seal is leaking. Do I need to split the tractor like you did in this video to replace it? Thanks!

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  4 роки тому +2

      To change the rear main seal you would have to split the tractor, yes. Thanks for watching!

    What causes this type of damage to the shaft?

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  5 років тому +1

      It's really just natural wear from heavy PTO use, especially something that causes uneven pressure on the PTO like a finish mower. Thanks for watching!

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 років тому +1

      Yes the seal retainer will slide off the front of the shaft so you can replace the seal without removing the shaft. Thanks for watching!

    I have 78 new international cub. PTO keeps popping out, actually not even engaging. Do I have to split trans from engine versus splitting at transfer case

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  3 роки тому

      I am not familiar with a Cub with a transfer case. If the transmission is like the one in the video split at the front of the transmission. Thanks for watching!

  • @ryelor123
    @ryelor123 6 років тому

    I'm going to venture to guess that the owner would grind the PTO when engaging it while the engine was in neutral before shifting it into gear.

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 років тому +1

      That is certainly possible, though the taper wear on the splines is a common issue caused by the load on the splines from running equipment, everything will wear out eventually. Thanks for watching!

    Too bad you sped past reinstalling the top cover. I would have liked to see how you did that.

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  5 років тому

      It's pretty straight forward, drop the bottom of the shift lever into one of the shift forks, it's best to have the tractor in neutral. Thanks for watching!

    Great video as usual Dave, well described and as others say you make it look so easy! Wondered if you were able to give me some advice on my IH444 which I'm currently restoring concerning the gears and it being stuck in 4th gear, I think there maybe an issue with the sliding quill, I've put a video on UA-cam with the problem if you wanted more info ua-cam.com/video/CRKjsU0rBig/v-deo.html
    Cheers, Pete
