I wish I could be in a room where Neil Postman and Marshall Mcluhan are having a deep conversation on our present time.

I believe in what he says, but I am overwhelmed that no one listens. Judging by our current lives, it seems no one did.

Everyone is so flooded with information that they either can't find this or don't have the time to devote to it.

The scientists say now that brain behaves/works differently when it is in three modes: consuming information, letting information to settle, thinking about it. We are 99.99% of time in consuming information mode, we don't even have time to absorb and think on it. We almost never "switch gears". We have to do it consciously now, to make ourselves to stop listening/reading anything new and just to think.

06:15 "..the idea that it is through technological progress that we will achieve happiness, and therefore it is a good thing for us to adapt ourselves and change our culture to fit the needs of technology because it is on the wings of technology that we will find paradise, that in itself is a story in which many people believe!"

And transhumanists took this idea to the extreme

Something is better than nothing, so I certainly appreciate the upload, but it would be great if someone could upload the full interviews again. We used to have both in full. This one was the first interview from, I believe, late 1984, and the next one was a few weeks later in early '85.

@JimboParadox Yes, you're right. I missed that. A couple weeks after I posted that I found all of them on the PBS website.

I'm only 3/4 through Amusing Ourselves to Death, but I know that Neil would hate that this is a shortened version of his comments...

Damn that's us now. Interesting times. We're bombarded with information. More useless than meaningful

It is ridiculous to say that "every technology as an agenda of its own." Much of this is ridiculous, though, and verging on misanthropy.

He predicted the 1990s.. the ride of the conglomerate news agencies... and in late 90s he spoke of the merging of news with the internet.. dumbing down of society.@Shizznit2013
