  • The film ends with a somewhat altered version of the concluding verses from the dramatic poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay commemorating the terrors inflicted on the village by the Nazis in former Czechoslovakia -and the film began with the opening of of the poem being recited.
Here we also have the ghosts of the fallen citizens of Lidice parading in front of the screen and warning us never to forget what happen in their town.
