Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha is a Carnatic music Sabha in the city of Chennai, India. It is one of the oldest of its kind in existence. Sabha has instituted three awards annually namely, Sangeetha Kalasarathy for a Musician, Natya Kalasarathy for a Dancer and Nataka Kalasarathy for a Dramatist. And also it confers best performer awards for young talents were given for Vocal, Violin, Mrudangam two awards on each category who performs during the December Music Festival. The Sabha also has confers two awards The Palghat Mani Iyer Centenary Award, and M.L. Vasanthakumari Award,
The Parthasarathy Swami Sabha was founded by Manni Thirumalachariar in 1900.The sabha acquired its first permanent venue, the site of a cremation ground, in 1959. In 1962, the sabha constructed an open-air theatre.

It is his Guru's blessing to enable him settle there. That has been the main reason for not losing his sense of tradition and Mano-Dharma . A rare, unaffected Human being, despite the glaringly wavering practices of accompaniment in the present day.
Don't worry we still have incredible players like Patri Sir, Umayalpuram sivaraman and Karaikudi Mani sir. Trichy Sankaran sir is still coming to Chennai and playing concerts here too.

The sadest part of sankaran Sir is, even after spending 50+ years in A foreign land, visiting India only once or twice, he still continues to be there in Canada for what????
Has he not earned enough name, fame, students besides Unimaginable Wealth and Dollars???
What is that stops him from coming back to his roots, " Ghar Wapasi" and start A Pudukkottai school of Percussion" in memory of his revered Guru Ji somewhere in TN, be it in Trichy itself, his birth place, or Tanjore or Chennai if he can't lead A Life in non Metro cities.
25 years back I made this request to him, myself being A Mridangam artist, A disciple of Raghu Sir. When I Made this request his wife was also with him and she was indifferent and non committal.
You see, how man after achieving everything in his life, still wanting to hold on to his "Materialistic world and Foreign comforts" rather than giving back to his society and motherland which gave him birth, A Guru and a great name, even before he knew where was Canada in the map, in those days of 1970. I am sure, Prof. John Higgins, who took him to Canada and who was instrumental in making Sankaran Sir of what he is today, will be wondering to Why this man after achieving everything in his life still wanting to be there and doesn't want to get back to his roots which are in India, TN, Trichy or Chennai...
Even Higgins doesn't know the reason... 😱🥺😨🤔🤫🤫🤫

He lived there since the 70s. He got used to Canada. I'm sure he has many disciples in Chennai who continue the Pudukkottai style
