- I was watching this game earlier today, and then I had a thought, what if I added a countdown clock to the end of the game? So that’s what I did. This isn’t what I usually post so let me know if you like it 👍
This was actually unbelievable by Hawthorn. This was VFL Park which was huge.
I was at this game. Was devastating as a Melbourne supporter.😢
This just goes to show how capable human beings are at doing things
😂
Amen
12seconds GOD how bad i miss football them days growing up😢
Eishold and Grinter were the REAL villains, but Jim became the poster boy for this catastrophe.
Bucky was one of the greatest players ever! A freak of talent! Up forward in the middle anywhere! Just ask Greg Williams in his interview Mike Sheehan when Bucky gave him a hiding in the midfield! Yeah he was a special player! And Greg Williams 2 brownlows is someone you listen to! He mentioned one other player Gaza snr! The greatest footballer to put on a boot! Lucky they put Bucky down forward for the last quarter! 2 goals in under a minute! 35 meters out after siren to get into granny! That's the tuffest kick in history of football! Look at the Melbourne player a minute before under less pressure from 5 meters out! Mist! Garry buckanarra a true champion! Best player in 80s for me without question!! And one of the greatest of all time!! He helped build the 2008 side hodgy ruffy Cyril buddy all thanks to Bucky and Schwab !
I really love the commentary
Agree. Much better than these days. Dennis Cometti was the last of the good commentators.
@@scoldedcat don't forget Bruce. I would say the only good commentators today are Brian Taylor and Anthony Hudson
OK. Well, I'll have to agree to disagree on that. Roaming Brian just sounds lame, IMO. @@scottpendlebury3707
Melbourne snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
And just to rub salt into the wounds, both these sides met in the Grand Final the following year. Hawthorn thumped Melbourne by a then record winning GF margin, 96pts.
Yep, it was a short period of success for Melbourne. 87 and 88 were Melbourne’s best chances at breaking their premiership drought, and both times Hawthorn beat them.
the neverending siiirreeennnnn dudududududu
Umpires couldn't hear it over the noise
The wind followed the hawks all day!
Everyone was going for Melbourne, they just sneaked into the elimination final and nearly made the grand final.
Demons didn't deserve to win this, they did everything possible to give the game to the hawks
Eishold's miss was a shocker!!!!
Banger 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
The sun even shines on a dog's ass some days.
Campbell is it (number 40) just had to kick that ball out of bounds. Would have been a ruck contest and game over with 12 seconds left. Kicking a point there was the worst mistake out of all of them.
How do you have a shot like that, with a lead of more than a goal, with just over a minute left and *lose*? 🤔
They showed you how lol
Plus it gets the countdown clock wrong. In those days, the clock didn't stop when a behind was scored.
Interesting thing is Melbourne were in the lead. Why didn’t they play possession football? But there were bad misses by Melbourne.
Melbourne also had the momentum, which is possibly how Hawthorn won. Back then teams didn’t really play possession football but still, Melbourne knew they were all over Hawthorn and they just thought “if we get one more goal, we’ve won” which I personally think is ultimately how they lost, but yeah, they were shocking misses 😂
They didn't run down the clock back in those days
GREAT VID
Footy was great then, these days it is soap opera!
Melbourne absolutely stuffed it...very sad
This is the crappy Broadcom version. The ABC had the rights in Victoria in 1987, and their call is way better.
Plus, it doesn't have all these stupid logos on it.
Have seen so many players go over the mark when someone is getting ready to take a kick and no penalty today. Tough one.
He ran through the mark
@@TheCleaner76 yes I know.
@@JohnJohn-zn8ib I don't think you do
@@TheCleaner76 yes I do stupid, he ran across the mark giving the Hawthorn player an extra 15 minutes, what a disaster that was, Melbourne would have beaten the team in the grand final if it wasn’t for that free, lucky Hawthorn.
@@JohnJohn-zn8ib 😂😂😂😂
That first miss though.
But he was under a lot of pressure so I understand.
He was, but it was still pretty bad 😂
Yea true
It's a horrible miss. You kick those in under 10s.
What will you do for 1k subs
Still not there, let’s see 😂
Then the got beaten next week
Went back to back in 88 & 89
@@TheCleaner76 yeah but why celebrate a game that only got you into a grand final where you got thrashed?
@@sliat1981 because it kept Hawthorns GF streak going of consecutive GF appearances

I still think this was quite possibly the worst kick at goal I have ever seen at league level.
Probably the most biased commentating you would would ever see in a TV coverage, absolutely disgusting. Well Hawthorn got their just desserts the next week thank goodness...
So some ALLEGED commentary bias means a team deserves to lose the following week ? Clown 🤡
The commentary may have been the only thing that was biased towards Hawthorn that day. Everything else, including even the wind, seemingly wanted Melbourne to win. I was at the game with a few mates, and it truly felt like we were on another planet with 95% of the crowd gunning for Melbourne.
