Sounds like u might need to check the basics first. Oil pressure and blow by. Is she using oil and fuming? I had a 80 series 12 valve diesel and was in the throws of running a big end bearing. Got to it in time. The early 1HD T 12 valve turbo diesel 4.2 had that problem. Change the big end bearings and they where good for another 300,000 kms. With good servicing Ofcourse. Hope you got your sorted.
It should click when power on and off. There should be a lowish, maybe very approximately 30 ohm reading across the coil. In my Hilux the ecu controls the spill valve with a variable pulse operation that somehow controls the fuel flow to the cylinders. How it actually works is a Denso secret! And Toyota hasn't, as usual, got a f clue!
