Can you guess which tracks are my favorites? I'll give you some clues. (1) There are three circuits that I include in this video more than others. (2) Two European, one South American. (3) One of the European tracks isn't really good for racing (not F1 at least) but I like to race on it in games.

isnt racing and racing games a sign of white privilegie? it comes from an oppressing white idea after all. i think its problematic. not everyone can afford to drive around in expensive cars. in many places there is big poverty. problematic.

Hey Chris. I don't normally leave comments on videos, but hearing the last bit of your video really motivated me to say something. I really love your reviews and I'm going to miss seeing them pop up on my feed. That being said I also completely understand how much of a drain producing content can be emotionally, physically, and mentally especially when you aren't seeing the feedback/growth/or whatever you're expecting. Clearly this is isn't a decision you need outside influence on, not that some random on the internet would have any in the first place, but I'm hoping seeing a nice comment might make your day a bit better if nothing else. I'm going to be sad not seeing your content as much but happy you're making a decision to make yourself happier.
Your crpg series is one of my favorite on UA-cam and it's the reason I've tried a few of the games that I have. But I also love these smaller personal projects that just talk about things you like.

Oh man, the amount of times I’ve been caught between night stages on Dirt Rally 2.0 with no lights is unbelievable. One of the toughest and best stages I ever had was in a pitch black forest with no headlights and only the slightest difference in the colour of the track in contrast with the darkness around me. It was amazing and tough.

I got into Sim racing gradually over the last year or so, to the point that it's turned me into an actual motorsport fan which I wasn't expecting. You're right about VR though, it fits perfectly with sim racing and I think is a major improvement to the overall experience. Going from flat-screen racing to VR racing is a generational leap the way going from 2D to 3D racing games was. It's really the knowledge about racing, motorsport, and the various well known tracks around the world that I gained from sim racing which ended up making real life motorsport interesting to me. When you're watching an F1 race and have the familiarity with the track that naturally comes from sim racing on it, it makes the race a completely different experience.

I got completely hooked to sim racing when I recently got my first entry level Fanatec DD wheel. It was easily the most fun I've had on my PC while it worked, though the Fanatec CSL/GT DD are plagued with technical problems and the company has poor customer support -- over a week and still no response to a support/return request.
So I decided to go all in on a 25nm Simucube SC2 Pro , a high end wheel and mid-range (VNM) pedals .. $2750 so far, including an affordable wheel/pedal stand. But I think it's worth it for the amount of enjoyment you get out of this hobby, plus it's a damn good upper body workout when you're working with such high torque wheelbases.

Head-tracking (or eye-tracking) like TrackIr, Opentrack and Tobii are a cheaper alternative to VR. The immersion is of course not as deep (though it definitely adds to it), but it enables you to effortlessly look around you. I don't play racing sims, but I do play flight sims - and couldn't imagine playing without head-tracking.

Awesome video. I have been sim racing for probably about 6 years now on the t300 as well. It gives me a certain type of satisfaction that no other hobby really provides. On other note, It is pretty simple to open up the hub and check your shifter spring. Sounds like its just not seated in its housing correctly. Shame they couldn't sort that out for you. ua-cam.com/video/lGcNpi4U-QQ/v-deo.html This is for a paddle shifter mod but at 2:59 you can get a good look at how the springs should be seated. Should take a few tries when putting it back together but I believe in you. Good luck on all your endeavors Chris. I will continue to watch the old vids and I hope to see ya on the track sometime.

    • @scienceofobliteration2671

It has been my least favourite genre as well. In fact, I honestly hated it. However, in some Humble Monthly back then, there was Dirt Rally 2.0 - I tried it, felt ultra immersed, liked the challenge, the sound, the atmo. Headed out, bought a wheel, and here I am - proud owner of RaceRoom Racing Experience, Automobilista2, AC, ACC, BeamNG, Live For Speed and probably some other driving/racing sims I have forgotten at the minute.
To me personally, it just had something refreshing. It was me who was at fault when I messed up. I was responsible for braking at the right point, for getting on throttle just soft enough to not spin out and such. With CS and the likes, which I played back then, it's always been "woah, my opponents are cheating" or some other dumb excuse. And not to mention: the sim racing community is for the most part eager to have clean and fair races. It's a respectful environment and literally everyone is welcome. It actually FEELS like a community. Regardless of which game you play.

  • @no_fb

The FFB wheel and pedals make a huge difference, but I advice you to try TrackIR or equivalent if you can afford it, for a slightly more immersive experience at a small cost (3 monitors or VR are another way, just more expensive). It's true that AC/ACC, rF2, R3E (and AMS that I don't know) and other more serious sims lack a motivating career mode, the reward is in mastering the vehicles and that seems enough for the devs. You make your own career campaign if you will. rF2 and AC are among the most rewarding IMO, the latter being more friendly with a modern UI. The successor to AC, ACC has at least some rules, Kunos is infamous for not caring about that (it's obvious in AC), and it took tremendous insisting from the fan base to make them add them. rFactor2 remains probably the best regarding physics, FFB, rules, AI, and since Studio 397 has taken over, there are more and more excellent tracks and vehicles. I heartily recommend you to try it. A lot has been remade, there is little left from the 2013 version.

I'd love to watch a video like this but with the military flight sim genre, because unlike most gamers, I grew up with that genre, my first games were Nintendo games, the original one like the first Mario game but military flight sims and to a lesser degree, space sims, are the type of games that made me a gamer...
With that in mind, that definitely gave me a mostly different perspective when it comes to gaming, later on I also got into the other PC centric genres like strategy, management and crpg, and they have always feel distinct than the genres that would ultimately became mainstream.
And my experience as a whole also gave me a certain perspective when it comes to the whole "PC master race" thing, for most, it is perhaps just a derogatory meme, but for me it has certain reality in it, play military flight sims without having the knowledge and skill about aviation and piloting planes, so it's more than just gaming, so to speak. Anyway this is just a little rambling on my part.

I had similar bad experiences with Thrustmaster, I think that since they're Guillemot, the support is below any standard. Unfortunately there are very few alternatives, the Fanatec have good reputation (though are not exempt of issues, but at least their support is good), but their prices is exaggerated for a simply hobby. And Logitech is just not the same experience.

Personally I prefer the likes of Horizon and Dirt Rally. Running in circles on a gray track in a sim racer is really boring, especially without a wheel.

Ok, you're wrong about simcade. It isn't used as a slur, it is nothing more than name used to describe the subgenre of racing games. When simulators are focused on SIMULATING behaviour of a car in details, simcades are focused on simulating experience of driving said car while EMULATING its behaviour.
The goal of simplifying physic system, kinematic and dynamic models is to decrease production time, hardware requirements and make it easier to implement both accessibility features and balance changes. That's why original Assetto Corsa is great sim and awful game without structure while Gran Turismo Sport has great multiplayer system with tons of content but lacks in accuraccy of simulation. Most popular simcades (FM and GT) don't even use accurate suspension geometry and use more (Forza) or less (Gran Turismo) unified parts between cars, as well as many "canned effects" that replace advanced, hard to tune simulations with simple scripts that are "good enough" to provide great racing experience.
If you compare amount and quality of simulated parameters between sims and simcades, you just cannot throw them into the same bag. Simcade is VERY wide spectrum and I think GT Sport and Forza Horizon are great representation for its boundries: GTS being on the edge between simcades and sims and FH being on the edge between simcades and arcades. I would also consider Dirt and Grid to be arcade racing games.
But I think that "sim-lite" is also good name that could be utilised. We generally need better defined subgenres to get rid of journalists praising FM for being "sim".
Also about sims: original Assetto Corsa and RaceRoom Racing Experience (brilliant game, you have to try it: top notch ffb and AI with great ranking system and ok netcode) are your only options if you fancy touring car and vintage racing (which are the best racing types in the world).

My dad, DMAX (youtube) makes motion rigs for his sim racing experiences. It's pretty cool.

I liked your videos more before your "I'm a YT game reviewer" intro that everybody thinks they need.
