Just shows that you were a child when these games came out, because they were a HUGE phenomena even back in the day. Some of us followed SoC's development for nearly half a decade, and by the summer 2008, when the game was patched and started getting big mods, it was already a huge hit. And don't get me started on those Ukrainian STALKER Festivals, merchandise, airsoft raid events, fanfics, the goddamn movie and TV series... but alas, I guess even the late-00s is similar dark, lost history to some younger folks as the pre-2000s is to zoomers.
So it took me 5 minutes to quit the game, open up the game files and start messing around with the weapon variables.. that iron sight zoom was just nightmare, and because GSC was so wonderful back then.. pretty much every single thing in the scripting files on that engine had detailed notation so it took literally 5 minutes just to kill the zoom and enjoy the game, then you know the rest of the week to start messing around with things like bouncing bullets LOL..
Prime example of why raytracing and all that shiny guff isn't worth snot if it's not on a good game. You gotta make a good game like this first and THEN add the shinies.

The trilogy have been my favourite game series since they were released, and I still play them all these years later. 38 years old today ^_^. Playing a lot of Anomaly GAMMA at the moment, which I think also is a HUGE reason the games have been discovered by so many people over the last few years. Still! Anyone who enjoys Anomaly or GAMMA today owe it to themselves to at least play through the original trilogy at least once! If for no other reason than to get the background and lore in which everything takes place. Also people who are expecting Anomaly/GAMMA gameplay from STALKER 2 are going to be disappointed. It'll most likely be more akin to the original trilogys gameplay and story progression (albeit more polished than the original trilogy), and I think people are setting themselves up to be disappointed if they expect something else entirely. This series has become legendary over the years, and I can't wait for STALKER 2 ^_^ Just don't keep your hopes up if you expect anhything close to Anomaly/GAMMA-standards. Because it won't be. One of the best games I ever played. I really enjoyed playing it a couple of years after launch. And I have always enjoyed revisiting Stalker. It never gets old. One of the truly great games of all time.
The best thing about Stalker is that humans shooting at you become the smallest threat and sometimes if someone starts shooting at you, you go "thank god it's just some dude and no mutant!"
Awesome game. Sometimes a bit hard to decipher what you have to do, and the guns feel kinda... weak (though to help combat that, play on the hardest difficulty, that way you do more damage. Though obviously, enemies also do more damage, but even with that the guns still just feel kinda not impactful) But the world design is amazing, especially the skybox is insane for 2007, and it's very unique as a game, something you don't really see nowadays. I am really really excited for STALKER 2. Especially since I've been to Pripyat and Chernobyl NPP, I can't wait to see it recreated in high definition.
STALKER games have this gear-based, pseudo-RPG like progression system. The starting gear is THE shittiest bottom of the barrel stuff, while late-game gear is OP. It's a very similar design as in Zelda:BotW; in both games, you iindeed CAN waltz all the way to the very finale of the game, but a huge majority of the newbies will get pulverized by the dangers long before they they reach the target. Hence exploration, salvaging gear and doing some missions become a form of training montage. There's also the fact that NO weapon in STALKER is a hit-scan laser gun. ALL the projectiles are physics-controlled projectiles, with distinct travel times, trajectory, etc. Even ricocheting is coded into the game. Pistols and shotguns have a very tiny reach of ~25 meters, and have weak armor penetration stats, which again makes the early "hobo phase" extra challenging (and keeps players from steamrolling to the Chernobyl too early). Once you get a proper rifle, pop a scope on top, and maybe load it with AP rounds... plus learn the secrets of low-crouching... you will suddenly become the Demi God of the Zona itself.
Ah you think STALKER is your ally? You merely adopted the STALKER. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the other games until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!

Which land from which occupants??? Ukrainians never defended their land from occupants, they welcomed them. And by the other side, they are fighting with their brothers - russians
When you search bodies you will hear a noise and some purple stuff appear on the map, those are stashes of those corpses, mostly they are on the land and maybe on the buildings, placed to hidden spots, there will be items in them like ammo, armor, votka etc.

@@zer0synd1cate I see them not bad, but a bit uninteractive, can't think of a better word for it. In linear games you play a story and do what this story tells you to do, where in open world games you can create your own story. Take Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series for example. In Metro you play as Artyom and that's it. Even endings are just for show, there is only two endings and only one canon ending in the first game. And now let's see what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has. You can run around the world, completing side and radiant quests, collect artifacts, sell loot, buy gear, venture into the depths of the Zone all game and never touch on the main quest. In the first game you region locked only up to Yantar and in CoP only Pripyat is locked behind main quest. That's why Clear Sky was hated, because it was more linear. I'm not saying linear games are bad, they just offer less. If linear game has good story it's still just one story. Open world are also not by default good. If OW game sucks in story, it can deliver on environment. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games never had an amazing stores, but side quests and environment pulled it out and with mods it could be improved even further. Also, on open world games are usually a lot of mods to tune the game for your liking.
@@sabnock31 the best part about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is that the world does not need you. You can sit and watch everything happen around you and it just...continues. The entire game doesn't revolve solely around you, only the story. Metro doesn't have that. Very few games do, to be honest.
@@Vynirian yup, the A-Life system is just something else. You can literally track how stalkers explore, collect artifacts, fight monsters and bandits all around the map. Like in Anomaly, if you take a quest from non stationary NPC, you can find him in another location. If you believe stories, the original plan was that stalkers could finish your quests for you, if you weren't fast enough, resulting in some random legend rank stalker literally finishing main quest and soft locking you. And in those stories developers was made to cut that part, because it wouldn't be fun to play such a game.
Being a slav, its a different kind of an entertainment to watch some clueless guy playing stalker for the first time. (It's mandatory in CIS to play stalker before 16)
I would say that STALKER Call of Pripyat is more or less Ukrainian Fallout New Vegas. Short on shooting, lots of walking and some of dialogues and RPG like progression with places where you can find better gear and quests that sometimes can even have good setpieces, but many are just set in overworld. It's main issue IMO is the main quest that has very "No shit, Sherlock" twist that is both boring and underwhelming and ending that feels like it was added just to have an ending. In this regard Shadow of Chornobyl at least provides SOME intrigue and twist is at least fun, but game itself is much more linear.
One big tip for the original games is to play them on master difficulty (I know this sounds like Im being an elitist) All it does is increase weapon damage for yourself and enemies. Kind of like a Glass cannon. It makes the game vastly easier as enemies die quicker but in turn you have to be a little more careful. Anyway, great to see you playing Stalker and enjoying it.
@@sabnock31 I disagree. You die much quicker on master and enemies die much faster. Therefore on master bullet damage is either increased or health is decreased. This was a recommendation for me from several veteran players when I was having trouble with my playthrough.
@@jarredspectre haha, you don't need to disagree with the game engine, it doesn't care about your opinion brother. this myth was created to haze and filter new players, it is a placebo. more likely, master forced you to learn how the shooting worked unconsciously and so you got better at it. you took cover and played more defensively, so you did not suffer as much from movement accuracy bloom, and as such more of your shots actually hit the head. ironsights can mislead players into believing their shots are more accurate than they really are. playing on master can be a good trial by fire for new players to get them to learn, but we should not mislead them even if unintentionally

the game was pretty janky (I mean, it's the game that made people know the terms of "Eurojank" lol) but it's honestly a charm to me. the texture of the ground and the whole map, the model, the ui, it's was unique enough to put me into it's depressing european world theme. a lot of the places in this game really makes me feels unnerving, to see what once a place where society exists, now it's just an empty ruin of a city. I also really love the lore of this series, a lot of mysterious supernatural anomaly shit that happen in this place, it's an incredible world to learn about. It's gameplay were very similar to the 3d Fallout games imo, i love a lot of scenery, background & the map of this game, it's depressingly gorgeous.
There's actually quite a bit of subtle stuff they were doing back then with lighting and shadow that games today even try to chintz around with half ass implementaions. For instance, watch lightning strikes in Stalker during storm weathers and notice how they cast shadows correctly. Compare that to dozens of other generic AAA stuff out there that graphically looks nice but is mostly facade. Not to mention the while A-life thing with online and offline AI movements between different areas at all times.
Did you pick up artifacts, by the way? Those glowy, bouncing things on the ground? I was mostly listening to the video so I didn't see if you had any in your inventory or equipped. In case you didn't know, those blobs are very valuable and they can give you considerable boosts to your stats. Passive health regen, greater resistance to mutant hits or bullet impacts, resistance to anomalous effects and more carry weight.
Aaah nothing like a rookie’s first trip to the center of the zone. So sad that he’ll have to immediately back track to the Agroprom Underground and fight multiple blood suckers since he didn’t even find Strelok’s stash.

It feels weird having been a fan of the franchise since I was a child and only seeing it become popular in recent years.

Stalker is really an underrated franchise I recommend playing the 3 main games and then try the total conversions like anomaly or gamma
Gamma is a modpack of a mod , of a mod, of a mod of a game
Anomaly is the main go-to that i chose every time, as Gamma is, as shrump said, a modpack of a mod, of a mod of a mod for a game.
I would also suggest OGSR/OGSR Gunslinger, oblivion lost, Lost alpha directors cut, spatial anomaly, goldsphere if you're okay with saving often because of gamebreaking jank, wind of time(I still have to play that myself) and road to the north
gamma for me is too hardcore, I prefer anomaly

This series has become legendary over the years, and I can't wait for STALKER 2 ^_^
Just don't keep your hopes up if you expect anhything close to Anomaly/GAMMA-standards. Because it won't be. Not until Anomaly/GAMMA 2 inevitably drops for STALKER 2.

Though obviously, enemies also do more damage, but even with that the guns still just feel kinda not impactful)
But the world design is amazing, especially the skybox is insane for 2007, and it's very unique as a game, something you don't really see nowadays. I am really really excited for STALKER 2. Especially since I've been to Pripyat and Chernobyl NPP, I can't wait to see it recreated in high definition.
It's why people recommend playing on Master, it makes guns far more powerful, although the same for the enemy.

I love the stalker games. I personally find them to be far more immersive than even the newest metro games + it's an actual open world and less linear
I'm not sure why people see linear as a bad thing
STALKER is not open world.

to this day stalker series still has one of the best atmosphere of any rpg,i was blown away the first time i got to enjoy the series, highly recommend.
@@OmegaEnvych stalker overrated new vegas masterpiece.
No, it's not. Your damage always the same and enemies are not bullet sponges on easy difficulty. This myth was disproven long time ago.

Master Difficulty is the only real way to get Lost to the Zone

Странно, что тут нет русских комментариев. Ни разу не видел сталкер на английском. Звучит странно. Ещё страннее то, что половина фраз всё равно на русском.
Surprised there is no russian comments. I`ve never seen stalker in english before and it sounds strange. Half of phrases in russian mixed up with english ones is even more strange
i prefer when they talk russian with lector :P
"With the second game coming out" 😂 It's titled Stalker 2, but it's the 4th game.
I remember when I was about 10 years old and my dad brought home the disk with this game, it was so much fun to play it
“That war over there?”
Please be respectful towards Ukraine. This is the largest conflict since World War II. Shame
No it isn't. Not even by a long shot. You don't study much now do you?
@@ashleydolin4292 what’s your point or else you are a bot
@@ashleydolin4292 it is largest tho. And it is genocidal conquest against Ukrainian nation, perpetrated by russian nazis
When that game came out i had a 32mb vid card and was getting 10fps with it lol
Try Stalker Gamma for an incredible experience that is up to date with the year we are in, and is constantly updated, with better mechanics and balancing than most games these days
That's like recommending a person new to fallout to start with fallout 4 with 300 different mods installed, it's a totally different experience.
@@Yuyam12 amen to that
@@Yuyam12 gosh the amount of gatekeeping in this community is annoying, let ppl enjoy the game the way they want, i started with anomaly modded and otherwise i would never have bough the OG games, you play GAMMA for the up to date design , better graphics, mechanics, not to understand the fucking story.
@@LeMrAlpaca the thing is GAMMA isn't even close to a real STALKER experience, if anything really STALKER is a bit more casual, like the fact that you can't buy guns or armor is already wrong let alone the repair and crafting mechanism. and as you see in the video mutants aren't as much of a threat except the special ones (there is a part where he get mauled a pack of maybe 7 dogs but didn't lose half his health)
atleast recommend people to play anomaly before gamma because the order it was meant to be played is:
OG Trilogy -> Anomaly -> GAMMA
@@LeMrAlpaca It's really annoying when you're a fan of a game for so long and the suddenly a bunch of new "fans" come in and constantly shit on the games you know and love and tell other newcomers to avoid them like the plague because they're "outdated" "janky" and "unplayable". It's like if disney Star Wars fans started hating on the OG movies and telling people not to watch them and instead watch the disney stuff.
I remember playing this, Flatout 2, Dynasty Warrior 4 hyper on my cousin PC all the time 1 summer while my home getting rebuilt.
You should play the modded version of this stalker anomaly it's a combo of all 3 games.
It's not the same, it doesn't have the same story of neither of those
@@regular4634 really oh then i've to play this
It's not a combo of 3 games, it's a sandbox free roam mod, there isn't a real story in Anomaly and that's the point, the point of Anomaly is to play as a random stalker in the zone and do what you want and go where you want, that's not what the original games are about.
@@Yuyam12 I mean yes, on one hand that isn't what the OG games are about, but on the other hand that's what it's always been about: the zone.
No, it is not .Stop with that idiotic meme, you zoomer.
CoC / Analmeme / GAMMA are just empty SANDBOX-freeroam mods, with NO STORY. They do not "combine all 3 games", they just throw in the MAPS of the 3 games, but gut all the soul out of them. All while turning the whole thing into a shitty Tarkov-lite.
Analmeme is just SHIT, and anyone STARTING off with said garbage is instantly RUINING the whole STALKER experience.
Play the official GAMES first. Leave huge megamods for LATER.
Shadow of chenobyl is insanely notorious for ambience that makes you scared shitless
Normally, the game is very hard. Idk how you managed to get an easy start xD
Kinda bummed that you didn't really encountered any anomalies (wierd things in the world that around 95% of the time one-shot you). Or any chimera. Or as I like to call them "jumpscare assholes" ^^
Chimeras arent actually in the vanilla game of soc and clear sky they are only in cop
@@saddamhussein2 u know, he only played anomaly
Thanks for confirming two things:
1. You've never played the vanilla games. Shame on you.
2. He literally nearly stepped into an anomaly after the Car Park. Again, see part 1.
Go play SoC, CS and CoP. Now.
