We have grown kids around the state. I want to buy a freeze drier so we can mail my wife's cooking to them.
Aww, that's so sweet.
Guess it depends on the quality of the Mom's cooking as to whether it is well received lol.
@@toddshepard3592 My wife's a great cook
What a great idea 🥰
@@toddshepard3592
😎 He wouldn't bother if her cooking was any less than truly amazing.
Thanks Wanda and Danny. It seems like another benefit to doing your own freeze drying is no added sugar or preservatives that are often added to store bought foods. 💕
Morning Y’all , so interesting, y’all are like our test kitchen, wow ! So many options, really appreciate your time and effort in presenting the products like you do. Thanks for sharing !!
Great idea on sealing the bag!! I love my freeze dryer and this is a great idea to help your bags go further!
Thanks Danny and Wanda
I love the way you finish each other's sentences
❤️❤️❤️
It sounds like the Harvest Right might replace canning for meats. You are tempting me to save up for a Harvest Right.
I know, I agree!
Me too
You won't regret it!
We love ours.
yes but quite expensive for most consumers as myself :(
I miss you both! What a blessing a freeze dryer! 🙏
I trust what you are telling us. Honesty is the best.
I hope you all are doing well. :)
I ordered one about 3 weeks ago, they were having a 8-10 weeks ship time. If you order over the phone, they will let you put $1,000.00 down, and pay the rest when it's ready to ship. They also threw in some freebies to get me to order.
Thanks for sharing the taste , and texture test. I can see that there is a advantage of time saving production, as well as a advantage in the storage of the freeze dried method over canning , the cost of canning is getting more expensive today . I agree that the Mylar bag is cost effective plus the contents can last for decades compared to canning .
For breads if you want to rehydrate them without making them soggy put them in a steamer basket and steam them for a few minutes they will end up being soft and delicious just like it was fresh out of the oven
And I just bought a canner but one thing for sure, I will always get an honest opinion from you guys.
I am enjoying hearing about your results with the freeze dryer.
You have such a good idea for the Mylar bag meals!!! I freeze dried fat free sour cream and just the other day I reconstituted it and it is almost the same as before!. I have done meat too. Hamburger, turkey, ham and beef steaks. I reconstituted in broth or marinade. I have reconstituted all except the ham and it came back like fresh. I did the burger and steak raw. The other meat was cooked. I am about to the point to preserving my food this way instead of canning. I dried some cans of fruit that were about to the stage that they needed to be used. I will do more like that too. I have found that you need to blanch a lot of the veggies. The potatoes for sure. Tomatoes and peppers don't need to be blanched and the freeze dried tomatoes just burst with flavor on your mouth. That machine is so expensive but the money you can save with it sure pays for it! The food still retains its nutrition and it is packaged so the container doesn't break or the seal won't break. I have dropped jars and cans and broke the seal or the jars and that wastes the food. I have even had the plastic containers fall out of the freezer and shatter. I am glad I spent the money. I love they have a lay away program!!!
Dried food is great, just be sure you have adequate water stored so you can reconstitute plus to drink. Canned food has the water already so you don't need water to make it and to drink. You can't live without water.
LOVED it Danny ❣️Talk about a Fig Newton being ashamed of itself!!!! LOL!!! 🥰
This has been very interesting. You pretty much need to experiment to see what you like individually. Sounds like it may be a good investment. You can fill the freeze dryer, set it and walk away. Whereas with a canner you are pretty much tied to it till it's finished.
Glad you guys did this video. I got mine harvest right in January I've done vegetable, fruit and dairy but not meat by it's self. Will be trying it soon. Have a blessed day
Meals in a bag would be great, makes me want to save my pennies for a Harvest Right. Just think of the hours spent canning and room saved in the pantry and freezer, plus the electricity or propane not being used. Thank you both.
My freezers are filled to the brim, so we bought the freeze dryer to help with the freezer situation. I also last year had so much waste from my garden. I don't can much because I don't want all the salt plus you lose so much nutrients.
@@RuthStash I've been freeze drying the stock from my freezers first, then I can move on to fresh 😊. So happy we bought ours!
@@monana8706 I had some chunked up zucchini in the freezer, wow they were good even without salt. I am going to do zucchini chips for a snack when my garden starts producing.
Thank you Wanda and Danny for the great info.
Thank you, for being honest enough to say something was less than awesome. It's really helpful to hear about your hands-on experience.
We we're thinking of a freeze dryer this year. I can and freeze a lot every year, but it only keeps so long and we are hoping to preserve enough to have the flavors we like when we are no longer able to grow our own. Love the flavor of fresh produce and what you buy in the store is tasteless.
We are in our 60's and early 70's and were thinking of the same thing. We also camp and would like to do chilis and stews ect to reduce work while camping. Another great Wanda and Danny video.
New to your channel. Love it. I have learned so much in the last two weeks. Thank you for all you do and for passing on your knowledge to those of us that who were not raised on a farm and don’t know about this stuff. Can’t wait to get started. Thank you again.
Oh my goodness, spaghetti and meat sauce. Red beans and rice. Chili. Vegetable soup. Cream of whatever soup. Yummm
My boss purchased a freeze dryer in 2019, and told me I could use it if I'd help him with his stuff. There's a facebook group where I get most of my info on what works and what doesn't. This week I did a load of asparagus for me and a load of ham for him.
I love the idea of making pre-made meals because when I cook, I cook for an army but there is just my husband and I but before I cooked for at least 4 but usually more. I am getting better about making less but there is a learning curve when cooking for less people. So instead of freezing leftovers it would be handy to be able to freeze dry and then my husband could take stuff on the road with him and be able to warm it up since you can get hot water for nothing at a truck stop/gas station. I have been going back and forth on the freeze dryer because of the upfront cost but from the sound of it the saving in the long run it may end up paying for itself.
It really does!
This is a great ideal! My husband's a long haul trucker. Freeze dried meats would be amazing. I just bought an airfryer oven for $99 through home depot that you can use to dehydrate.
I love my Harvest Right and have had it since 2017. What a great idea to impulse seal the bag in half to make 2 sections for a whole meal. Thanks for sharing that great tip!!!!
I'll put my order in for a sample platter LOL 😊😊😊🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏🙏🙏
Oh might wanna mention to your followers the heat that they will add to the house. They are super hot in the summer.
You had me on the figs!! My all time favorite fruit.. It amazes me how well it does❤️
❤️
I love the idea of sectioning the bags for a complete meal Wanda. Great tip.
Great information. It’s amazing how well the meat turned out. -very promising. Thank you for sharing.
I've been running my freeze drier almost non stop since I got it. Doing meat is my priority to clear out some freezer space and prevent freezer burn. I'm already wishing I had another freeze drier. LoL.
I bought my freeze dryer several years ago. Was told it wasn't worth it but it is!!! Well worth it. The fruit an veggies as chips are great
Four A.M. when I got your notification yall aren't kidding its early.
This made me laugh 😂. We have been wanting a freeze dryer.
Great idea on doing partial bags and adding for complete meals, Wanda!
Good morning Danny and Wanda and Deep South family. Greetings from Jamaica 🇯🇲. Nice to wake up to an early video.
I like it because can’t find jars can’t find lids this is an answer to that until we can find more
Try freeze drying shredded cheese and pack in mason jars. Works great on any kind of casserole you need shredded cheese on. I like to FD raw ground beef patties and sliced thin chicken breast. :) Love my freeze dryer!!!
Imagine, Deep South freeze dried survival meals. Full flavor there. ☮️ HTGDE.
Slip the bags!!!! Perfect idea, thank you. God bless you both.
A great and informative video…we all love fruits and these are the perfect snack intensified flavors…can’t wait to try this ..stay blessed folks and thanks so much for sharing…
Good morning Danny and Wanda.
I remember grandpa taking salt and pouring a line down a wide board; then he'd lay hams and shoulers on that, then covering those up with salt. then he silled the room. could cut meat off and eat.
Thank you Danny and Wanda, great info!
These are some great ideas! Thanks for sharing. Your work is appreciated. ❤️❤️ ~~Sharon
I remember you saying that you didn’t care for the Thrive Life meat. So this is great that you like this. This is great for putting up foods for people with stricter dietary restrictions like Danny.
Hey guys most meat turns out great I have done a lot of chicken brest and a decent amount of pork loin. The key is just to get as much of the fat off as you can. I just did a 40.lb box of chicken breast half grilled half cream of mushroom. It won't take more moisture than it can hold so it won't get soggy. I'm a truck driver so I have more than a month of meat sitting in a box behind me just have to add sides.
Enjoying watching yall enjoy the first time users of the hr. I've been at it for years now. Gotta try some sweets love the ice cream sandwiches.
Thank you folks weve had our for two years now and love it. John in bibs is a good youtuber to watch for meals in a mylar bag.
Amazing.
You have me smelling roast! Lol I'm really thinking about that layaway plan.... Have you tried butter and icecream yet? ❤🤗
Trust discovered this channel yesterday I’ve been binge watching
This is all great info! I saw Sarah and Kevin's video and was amazed... especially about the eggs... how cool is that?!
There is a company (Balance of Nature] that sells pills (capsules) of concentrated fruits and vegetables. They advertise they use cold vacuum technology. That’s what Freeze Drying is! You could FD all your veggies and grind them up to fine powder and put in a capsule or in a smoothie. I think this is a perfect way to eat a lot of natural food.
I don't understand why anyone would thumbs down this video. Are there people who are just grumpy and don't like ANYthing they watch? Why thumbs down at all, if you don't like it, don't watch it! No sense being a meanie. You guys are giving that freeze drier true tests of all kinds of things. Good info for anyone starting out. God bless ya both!
Great idea on your bags.
Very good! : ) good idea for preserving food!
Sounds awesome👍💝
Thank you for your transparency. Love listening and gleaning from you.
Hi,this is pretty cool.Glad it's working well for you two. Thanks for the taste testing.Good way to store foods and have a meal quickly if needed.Good long term meals.Be well you two.Love,Pia&Family.😘🐈❤🙏
Another great video. Thanks guys !!
What a fantastic way to use your bags - I love it! Now I know what to do when I don't have full bags, but need to get the freeze dried food sealed up!
Love the tip for the way to get half bags uses and have a meal - Thank you - Love my Freeze Dryer
For those who have not tried freeze-dried foods commercial freeze dried products are very different than the ones that we make at home. Very different
I am just loving my Harvest Right. Hard to describe how intense the flavors are!
More freeze dry videos please!
Excellent tip for not wasting the bags. Thanks for sharing your insights!
Hubby ordered mine Feb 14th. Mine shipped yesterday!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Danny and Wanda i trusted you been watching you for over a year
Good morning Danny
WOW! Danny really likes the Pot Roast, can I get the recipe and what type of meat. I just received my Harvest Right FD on Wednesday. I did a batch of diced onions. I am now doing diced bell peppers, diced ham, diced zucchini and strawberries are on trays in the freezer.
We are blown away by the quality of the machine and the trays. We got the stainless steel and it is so heavy & sturdy. My advice to anyone buying one is to get a second set of trays.
Your idea on the Mylar bags are GENIUS!!!
I should not watch ya'll before breakfast. Everything looks so tasty!!
Thank you
Great video!! You answered so many questions I had.
I have freeze dried the crock pot liquid ( I de-fatted it in the fridge first, then made a freeze dried powder worked great rehydration beef liquid
I sooooo want one now.
We got our FD just before Christmas. I did a whole load of beef stew, and it is awesome reconstituted. I used some re-sealable mylar bags (with a ziplock zipper).... just pour in boiling water, stir it up and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. Just like a mountain house meal, but homemade!
So far my favorite things to FD are shredded cheese (only takes about 22 hours to FD!), pre-frozen corn & peas (no prep time, just dump bags on trays and go), pre-frozen fruit (strawberries, mango, peaches, etc), Apples, Bananas, cantaloupe.
We did onions and garlic... and they turned out great, but the smell was intense for a while after :)
i need to go back and do this with the stuff I have already done. I just hate to do it and then need it before I get a chance to replace it. I am going to get the peaches that i did from my tree.
I love this video. I am saving up to buy one and I can't wait to freeze dry so many things. I love the way you used one bag for several things.
Hi guys. Thanks for the taste tastings. We have been freeze drying for years and love it. One little piece of advice, don’t try and freeze dry raw potatoes. They will turn black! At least blanch them first.
Thanks Wanda and Danny. I wish I had the room for a freeze dryer. I've heard nothing but good about them, Maybe in the future I will be able to get one. Much Love
I'm listening intently with these reviews. Ready to eat meals would be awesome. Meat can be f.d raw or cooked, but I'd do cooked for meals I'd eat. Cook any meat that's freeze dried raw.
Great idea! 👍🏻 we just got a freeze drier! 🤓 learning all we can!
Danny & Wanda, This is maybe a personal thing, but you will want to cook your meat before you freeze dry it. When we did some that was raw... it came out tough. We put steak and pork tender loin chops on the grill and then freeze dried them and tried that... it was PERFECT! So, that is just our opinion... but you can try it both ways and see what you think.
Thanks
Thank you so much for the idea of freeze dry and cream cheese! It seems like I always have a half of a far left them in the back of my refrigerator that goes multi because I forgot about it. I will definitely be doing cream cheese because now it will stay good and I can just use the amount I want to help me. Thanks again for a great video!
I've used my foodsaver vacuum bags that I made a seal down the middle and then I put a portion in both sides of the bottom and then there was 2 on the top. Its tricky to lightly roll for vacuum but with freeze dry you don't have to worry on that.
Then you could have 4 individual portions per mylar bag. Like for seasonings.
I've tried all kinds of hacks with the vacuum bags. We even made freezer pops with creative seal placements.
I love seeing people who use these freeze dryers, its fascinating.
Oh that sounds fun. A blind taste test for your friends and family. Making a whole meal with the freeze dried foods. Just to see their reaction.
What strength oxygen absorbers are you using in your mylar bag meals? Also, You can save a heck of a lot of money by doing your own Freeze Dried Meats. Safe Castle produces contract Raw Meats in large cans, freeze-dried raw, lasting 25 years packed with safe use Oxygen Absorbers. Wallyworld has them listed online and a can of Beef Round cubes 1 pound is 99 dollars.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the harvest right.
I just got the medium size and have finished a batch of peas and butter beans. Got my second batch of veggies
Going with broccoli and a medley of cauliflower broccoli and carrots. It takes about 30 hours total but pretty much runs itself. Can’t wait to taste fresh meats as you have! That’s in freezer now, on deck next!
I finally got mine , but we can't get our table from harbor freight, hoping will be in next weekend.. so have to wait..2 weeks still waiting ..the counter is a 9 drawer cupboard for a garage tool chest on wheels , til I find a steel counter...like seeing what everyone is trying
Thank you.
The meat won't go soggy. It will only absorb what it needs.I find this with most things that aren't powdered. I have seen videos that reconstitute with milk, broth etc
Love your review videos. This was great! Thank you!
I love yalls reactions! I'm still on the fence on the freeze dryer, but I love watching your videos. Thanks.
Interesting!
So great! I'm trying to talk my better half into a freeze dryer but we need a actual washer and dryer first..
Yeah freeze dried is amazing, glad you can all afford to do it. This year its a green house, hoping it works well. Blessings.
Great review of the different things you are freeze drying. Awesome video and experiments Danny and Wanda. God bless! The Harvest Right though expensive sounds like a wonderful investment.
We lost everything in our freezers twice in a five month period due to storms this year. After the second loss, we invested in the generator we'd been putting off buying. The freeze dryer has been on my radar for a while now. I enjoyed the info you presented, looking forward to more to help me make sure it would be worth the investment for my family.
