Just the most perfect video I needed. I recently purchased several amazing old books based on what I was seeing with some junk journalers like yourself that go old school. I did begin to harvest one of the books, but it was very cumbersome the way I was trying to do it. I wasn't really positive on how to harvest the books so I was just doing what seemed to me to be the way to do it. Watching this video you have made simple directions and point it out ideas so smoothly. I can't wait to get back to harvesting my books. And I definitely need some Scotch tape handy. Thank you ever so much for devising a very simple yet concise way to harvest books for Junk journaling. I love the idea of creating faux washi tape using the numbers and words from the index. I can see there could be several strips created from one index in the book.
Pam, your thoughtful comments always make my day! Thank you! I did a whole video some months ago about the faux wash tape if you want to search through my old stuff - I think it was in September. So glad you found some great old books!
Thanks so much for the harvesting ideas! I love the idea of capturing the words for future labels. I do use the actual text from books, but I hadn't thought of using the publisher info etc. Thanks for the inspiration! I wish that I lived closer because it would fun to do a crafty weekend with you at the helm! 😊
Oh, I'm so delighted this was useful for you, Claire! Yes, once I started noticing the intriguing little bits of text in unexpected places, I really had fun adding them to my label stash! Have fun!
Sure, Debbie! I got my newest set off Amazon - you can search for Elizabeth Craft Designs - Clear Stamps, Retro Labels. It looks like it's currently out of stock but that can change quickly. The other set, which I've had for a long time, is also off Amazon. Looks like the brand is HTINTL and you can search for "Label Borders Clear Stamp" and you should be able to find it.
I learned a lot! Two questions. Bill wants to know how to tell if a book is a first addition? And I want to know if your tape for faux washi tape is scotch or will magic tape work as well?
You always have the best questions! From what I've learned, a first-edition book is usually marked "First Edition" on the copyright page, so that's where I check first. Most of those are culled out by thrift store folks before they hit the shelves, though, but I always check. As for tape, I do use "Magic Tape," i.e., the Scotch brand for matte transparent tape. I think that has best translucent quality when applied to the final project.
This was incredibly informative! I’ve never thought to do any of this. Thank you!
So glad it was helpful - thank you for watching!

The Dickens book was printed 1880ish in England and has no copyright page. Just for info
