Advancing in Watercolor: The Big Mid-Tone, "The Tuscan Sun"

- Опубліковано 10 бер 2018
- This is part five of a muti-part series stemming from a recent trip to Florence Italy along with 10 other artists.- We traveled to the Hill town of Pienza for a day of painting watercolor in the open air. The subject in this work is the play of light and shadow across the old buildings, and eventually the tourists. I use the idea of simplifying my motif into 3 tones - lights, darks, and a large mid-tone as represented by the cast shadow.
You can learn more about plain air watercolor and all things related to watercolor please visit my website at garytuckerartist.com
I have also published a tutorial in the form of a pdf describing how this painting was made - you may download form this page: www.garytuckerartist.com/galle...

Thank you for taking the time to view this video and I surely appreciate your thumbs up
The textures and color balance is excellent and I appreciate how you barely suggest a shape whilst leaving the viewer the opportunity to make his own personal interpretation of what is going on. Many thanks for sharing your obvious talent with the youtube family.
Thank you Gary for your in depth explanation of what you are doing. Really helps us learning to craft.
Thanks for showing. What a great painting with only two colours.
Gary, You're the best in the business! Please continue to teach in this way.
I recently did my first painting with no pencil outlines. It's so fresh and unforced.
And this I was inspired to do from your example. Wish I could show you.
Gary makes it look easy!
Hahaha the storm rages in my head too
Very nice. Love the quality of light portrayed in your painting Gary. Thanks again
I come back to this demo time and again. I am so impressed with your techniques - brush strokes. Love it!
Thx Debera
Great demo, great lesson. Again thanks for sharing.
Gary is obviously a master watercolorist. His videos straddle the line between instruction and virtuoso performance. In some cases, he uses a straightforward step-by-step approach that could reasonably be emulated by a student. In many, however, he combines very advanced skills in an instinctive, tightrope-walking alla prima process that a student has little or no chance of ever duplicating, particularly given the time constraints of watercolor.
Very nice painting. I love it. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing demo. Dear Gary, I'll hope you continue teach by means more tutorial...
Your methods and technic are very helpful. As a watercolorist myself it helps me to improve my paintings by watching other painters.
I completely agree with your use of a limited palette. Your work inspires. I primarily paint loose landscapes but your work is helping to explore structures and figures.
I think i'll get my kit out and enjoy the day creating...
Just a lovely thing. I’m going to copy this a couple of times to make a study of what your doing here.
Great demo. Many thanks

Çok güzel ❤️❤️👏
ganz eigen Pinselsprache. Toll gemacht
Goodafternoon. What colours do you use here?thank you
Well, that was a delightful ten minutes spent! Such a lovely representation of that photo. You are right...the dry brush was very much on your side that day.
Would you be opposed to someone using your photo for a reference from which to paint? Some say that painting from someone else's photo without permission is stealing, but I imagine, if it comes in the form of a tutorial like this, then the artists are not opposed.
Thanks for asking Liz - use the photo if you like it :)
@@GaryTuckerArtist Thanks! I will use some of my Daniel Smith paints for this. I think the granulation should be ideal.
