I have one in carbon steel that my father bought me years ago. It’s a great knife. Camping in Norway we toss rolls of wet heather into the fire, the smoke chases the little buggers away. A nice long sleeve shirt helps too.
Insects are called gnats (pronounced nats) or midges. The Lynx is a high value/low cost blade. The birch handle and leather sheath are nicer than the plastics of Mora/; Hultafors and it has a fantastic blade.
cyclist01222 I’ve been looking into Marttiini knives lately. Probably why they’re not as common is that we’re flooded with Mora knives. Same with the Hultafors as with the Marttiinis. Excellent knives, but just not as common in the US.
@@kohinarec6580 Yeah. I have long experience of finnish knives including Marttiini and people complaining of poor quality are usually idiots who abuse their blades.
Very good puukko, I use it for light things. You need a big, heavy knife for heavy work. In Norway we sat by the fire and toss wet rolls of heather into the fire for smoke to chase the flies away.
Puukkos are among the most versatile knives for bushcraft. I have a slightly smaller one, a Karhunkynsi, i use it for many activities like slicing, whittling or carving and has never disappointed me.
Enjoyed the video - subscribed. In the UK we call those bugs gnats (pronounced nats) or midges - Scottish midges are the worst, you have to dive for cover if you get caught up in a swarm of them or they'll eat you alive ;)
This is my wife's favourite knife as the shaped handle is easier to grip and the blade is easy to steer. Tough enough for splitting logs for the fire but also great for spiking and splitting lobster or cutting fillet for the BBQ. Probably one of the easiest knives we have to sharpen, condition and strop. Usually I use a Victorinox pocket sharpener and strop on my belt which is plenty to get it stupid sharp 👍
Marttiini doesn't seem to get a lot of love here in the US. I own several and they are some of my favorite knives. If you want to get away from the gnats come to Texas. The unbearably hot and dry summers tend to kill them off, as well as mosquitoes and even people if it gets hot enough :).
Steven Bingham, to bad about the martini, I think they make very beautiful and useful knifes. Lol Texas that I quite a way. Really no bug like gangs and mosquitoes. Hmmm worth thinking about. Though I am a Viking I do best below 25g and very well below 0 😊
Indeed. I live in Florida, and I've been a fan of Marttiini knives for years. More folks like them than realize it. I know many fishermen who use "Rapala" fillet knives that are actually made by Marttiini.
I just bought a little Marttiini Snappy knife for carving - hasn’t arrived yet but I’m expecting good things based on your review! Little bitey buggers... Midges here in the UK. Usually more of them when there’s plenty of water/rain about.
Thor-is-testing sorry im a little late. The blade shape is a clip point but marttiini calls it a pot hook so its easier to lift pots of the fire and so on
Hi Marko, I get that i alot, and I agree and i dont, Marttinii knifes are not full tang, and I would not baton large firewood with my knife. but this is at test situation, and I want to know if my knife can take it if I get on the spot. on the side I always use my knife to make the small kindle also if i have to baton
@@Thoristesting It works for batoning for sure, I had that modell for 9 years. The handle cracked when i was chopping down a small tree (3-4cm diameter). Nice review, just ordered one yesterday.
kevin ryan, 👋 you won't regret that 😀
Here in New Zealand they are called sandflies. Nasty little things.
They really are :)
Good review. The carbon steel version is better, a bit harder HRC & it's straight at the back spine unlike the stainless which has a clip point.😊👍
Beautiful!! Thank you!
The tip is designed to lift the coffee pot from the fire, hence that shape, not slipping
The small flies are probably similar to Black Flies here in the North East of US
It is a clip point!
Ur Right 😀
It is called yatagan
It called a clip point.
Ramon Rodriguez , you might be right :)
Thor-is-testing sorry im a little late. The blade shape is a clip point but marttiini calls it a pot hook so its easier to lift pots of the fire and so on
I think the hardness of stainless version is 56hrc.Not 53-54.
Nice video mate in Ireland we call them midges.
Thats a clip point, the marttiini lynx 139 i have is the same at the tip

Gut gemacht !

Flies are called Gnatts in Australia
:) also in england i gather, they are freaking in every language :)
Marttinii knives are not made to baton with, thats a really good way to brake it. To split wood ppl really should use an axe
