    When I did CAD drafting for an Architect in the mid 1990's we always used 3' x 7' for doors.

      I am a carpenter, standard doors are 36"*84" for exterior and access ways.
      Interior home and office doors are 80" by 30" or 36" and closet / bathroom doors are 30" or 24"

      Thanks, Vinny. Always good to hear from you. I hope these videos on preparation for scratchbuilds have not become too tedious for people, but I thought they were important to share. I'm looking forward to this build too. It is going to be about the most intricate and complicated build I have done with all of the brick and stone sections interconnected. It should be interesting.

    Scan your scale ruler and paste the image at 100% into your Publisher document and (if possible ) lock it. Then you can import your image next to it and do your size adjustment to match the ruler there on screen, using the standard- size guidelines you talked about while working on the paper copy.

    Looking at that photo, it is apparent that the front door is at the base of the tall tower. That tower seems to stick out forward of the front of the building. Using a 2D photo, how to you determine how far that that facade protrudes towards you in the photo? I’m guessing it’s a proportional guess.

      I purchased mine in a hobby shop in Texas years ago. Sadly this company does not make them anymore and I have not been able to find something very similar recently. I will keep my eyes open and let people know if I find one because you are not the first to ask.

      +Spanky Fuentes I bought mine in a hobby store in Fort Worth about 15 years ago. Vinny (bnsf6951) has one just like it. I haven't seen one for sale in a while. I didn't realize this until after I made this video. Watch ebay. Might be your best bet.

      You can create your own by downloading a printable scale ruler, printing it on a transparency and then laminating it.

    New flat roof over the train room is a 2:12 pitch does not seem that much but over the basic 20 feet gains a little over 3 feet. Then to run it into the existing roof it gains almost another foot. Crazy... Now back to modeling

      That's pretty flat, may give way under the next big snowfall there in AZ. 😆

      User tip, It helps gain on UA-cam if your END Card links to another channel or playlist. With similar theme, video or tags - For instant linking to the BBCv2 playlist. The playlist if full of links to other similar channels doing the same thing, or link to some of BNSF6951 builds etc. Link to good playlist, videos and channels. Do this will increase the odds of your videos show up in the right drop down list and end video blocks that fill in post video end.

      Thanks for that tip. I will be sure to do this. I was trying to link the 3 videos I have on a similar subject, but this makes sense. I think I will go in and change those.

    If you're going to print a building off Google Earth, do you set the printer to 48% to get N scale? I need to find that N scale ruler you have! 😀

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  7 років тому

      I don't think there is one magic setting. It depends on how much you have zoomed in on the building in Google Earth before you printed it. I just guestimate, print, measure, repeat until I get it right. As for the ruler, can't remember where I got it and can't find one like it on the internet. Vinny (bnsf6951) has the same ruler.

      I have one that I bought from my local hobby shop decades ago. - C.T.T. Inc. Dallas, Texas - Item No. 9160 - I tried Google and the new Walthers catalog search to no avail. C.T.T. Inc. in Dallas, Texas, like many other small hobby businesses may have gone out of business.
      If you have access to spreadsheet software like Excel, create a list of "scale inches"/"scale feet" = real inches.
      I use the following formulas:
      Scale Inches = Real Inches =A7/160 where A7 is the cell holding the number of (Scale-Inches) you want to convert.
      Scale Feet = Real Inches =E7/160*12
      Scale inch = 0.00625
      Scale foot = 0.075
      Best of luck to you Bob Reynolds.

    OK, at the end of this video you say you're going to build this structure up and will show how it's done, step-by-step. I've looked thru' your videos list and can't see anything that looks like it. What are the videos called? Are they up? Why not just name them 'Town Hall pt1', 'pt2', 'pt3', etc?

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  6 років тому

      Well, for a host of reasons the project was abandoned about 1/3 of the way done. Mostly because I made some changes to the layout and no longer had space for it. Now I'm just planning to model the platform.

    • @RonsTrainsNThings

      No, my layout plans changed a bit so this structure was abandoned at about 15% completion.

    Is impossible how a commercial main door has a high of 6 ft. In a Smurf town.?

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  5 років тому

      I'm not sure what you are getting at. I never said a door was 6'. I did say a standard door height is 6'8", which is exactly correct. Go measure one.

    Ron, I love your content and appreciate it. Your intro is about 32 seconds too long. Nothing is gained and time is wasted with yours (and so many similar intros which are the information equivalent of clip art). If you think you must still ask to subscribe, like, and hit the bell (doubtful that you do), then move that to the end of each video.

    • @RonsTrainsNThings
      @RonsTrainsNThings  4 роки тому +2

      This video was one of my earliest with a long intro. I have pared down the title sequence dramatically since then (4 seconds). As for the front end call to subscribe (I don't say "like"), that is a UA-cam recommended best practice, It lasts all of 5 seconds, and considering that 70% of my views come from nonsubscribers, I'll keep it.
