    I brought it to read my articles and law books while I commute rather than having to take out my laptop so it’s good for students who commute but it still won’t replace my laptop as that’s my primary device for lectures.

      The iPad Mini is the greatest companion device, better than a phone, and better than a larger iPad. Yes It is not meant to be used as a main device.

    I keep deciding not to get an iPad Mini for now, but then I keep watching UA-cam videos about them and still really want one, and have to talk myself out of buying one for the rest of the day. I have an iPad Pro and use it for almost everything, but feel like I could use something like the iPad Mini for the few times a week I want to browse content in bed/on the couch. But, I work full time and am in grad school, so I really only browse on the couch/in bed on the weekends, and only for a few hours. I’ve forced myself to get used to the larger iPad Pro, which I pop off of the Magic Keyboard case for those few hours each week. I still REALLY want an iPad Mini, though. Lol

    Honestly great video, this beat all the other videos I seen from larger youtube channels and beat the reddit forums I was looking at for people to discuss why they'd go for the iPad mini over the other iPads. Wish I would have came across your video first! :)

    I adore my iPad mini and it is definitely my go to consumption device. The only productive stuff I do on it is minor note taking,minor digital planning, checking email, and occasionally using universal control with my new M2 MacBook Air which is my go to productivity/student device. However, I'm thinking about also getting an iPad Air or 11 inch pro to be able to more comfortably sketch compositions, comfortably take extensive notes, a less cramped experience for sidecar and universal control, and also move from paper sheet music to digital sheet music(the size of the mini sadly doesn't work at all for digital scores).

    I also watch UA-cam videos from my phone so I think the mini would be perfect for me!! I also sometimes edit my videos on my phone. Do you think the mini would a good option to edit photos and videos?

    • @KelseyBoyanzhu

      The mini does have the A15 chip i think so In theory yes it’s powerful enough. But you’ll have to ask yourself what screen size do you like best. I personally edit on larger screens but if you like editing on your phone and want just a little more screen the mini could be great.

    I just bought my mini and like it. Coming from a small samsung tablet and medium samsung tablet along with my 12.9" ipad pro I like the fluidity of this with my iPhone. I'm a designer and use it for making concept sketches and note on photos of Displays I make. I also cartoon for fun so having Portable professional apps helps drawing.

    Hi. Great video. Question. Which iPad Pro are you using with your mini? I ask because I have contemplated getting a mini to supplement my 12.9 iPad Pro but it’s the 2018 model with the A12x chip. I’m curious if for my use case, if the mini would smoke my pro.

    How is it for reading books, pdfs and comics? I already have an iPad pro, but do not find it very portable and easy to hold and read!

    • @KelseyBoyanzhu
      @KelseyBoyanzhu  3 роки тому +2

      I've been reading a lot of books using the kindle app on it, but no comics so can't speak to that unfortunately. For books I enjoy that, compared to the kindle, it's actually a more similar shape to a "real" book. The sizing feels more accurate to me. It IS heavier than a kindle, but it's WAY LIGHTER than the iPad Pro - so much better for reading in comparison there. I will say the kindle is easier on my eyes for reading over long periods of time. When it comes to PDFs I'm not the biggest fan of the Mini, but I think it depends what the PDF is and what you're trying to do. The only PDFs I really interact with on ipads are templates I use myself when writing UA-cam video scripts. I tried to have the PDF up on my Mini while I was filming this video and found it so much harder to read than when I use my iPad Pro. I think this is because those PDFs are really formatted to be "regular" sized paper 8.5x11. This means its really shrunken down when I'm viewing on my Mini. But that said, if you're using a PDF reading app of some sort where you can adjust text size, etc you might be fine

    I kept my iPad mini 2 with me the whole time in grad school because I am always either in my lab or library, so there’s always a computer to use. All I need is something to reading my textbooks, papers, or check my emails. A small tablet made more sense than a smartphone. Plus now a used iPad mini 5 (A13 chip) is significantly cheaper than a iPhone and it works just fine.

  • @bannanas114

    What memory size do you recommend? The 64g or bigger

    • @KelseyBoyanzhu
      @KelseyBoyanzhu  3 роки тому +5

      I think my answer would be it depends what your other devices are and your use case. I was able to get away with only the 64gb because i have another iPad I use for editing photos, writing, etc. i also have an iMac for video editing. Because I really am just using the iPad mini as a content consumption device, I don’t need a ton of storage. I stream all my video content (Netflix, UA-cam, etc), i read ebooks which take minimal storage. I do NOT keep photos on my iPad mini nor do i keep texts beyond 7 days.
      My husband only has a work laptop, his iPhone, and the iPad mini. He upgraded the storage to be maxed out because he doesn’t have other devices that serve other personal use purposes. He wants to be able to download movies, keep photos on the iPad mini, keep all texts, etc.

    To me personally most apple products cost a ton and suck. Their screens they sell you for thousands are super blurry and low quality. By the way, look at how small video looks on that iPad because of the black bars.

    • @KelseyBoyanzhu
      @KelseyBoyanzhu  3 роки тому +3

      Apple absolutely is priced like a luxury brand name. No denying it. I shop apple because I’m in the ecosystem. Everything i own works really well together. I also like the design and form factor of my devices. The screen isn’t the make or break for me. In the video I compare watching on my iPad mini to how I usually watch video which is on my phone. The iPad mini is a much better experience vs what I typically use.

    For writers and scribes I find talk of big / medium sized tablets being "computer replacements" kinda silly.
    As far as writing is concerned, a big/middle-sized tablet with an external keyboard is a make-believe computer. I grant you, those tablets are "making believe" with ever greater success, but it's a case of "outta the frying pan and into the fire."
    If for telephony the dichotomy is A) Landline, B) Mobile…
    ...for writing/editing it's A) sedentary, B) mobile.
    So sure, an iPad Air or Pro can be a computer replacement, but with their need for external keyboards requiring by their very nature equally external chairs and tables, they're "redundancy department of redundancy department".
    IKEA is surely glad, but besides satisfying our great love of shiny new gizmos, are we?
    The iPad mini might not be a replacement, but it lets you work sprawled on a hammock, or strolling in the park, or waiting in the car.
    What's really required for writers and scribes is COMPLEMENTARITY.
    Sedentary AND mobile. And not so much sedentary and more sedentary.
    Am I making sense?
    What you say about the Mini and content retrieval is the God's truth. But what IMHO you don’t know and perhaps can't imagine ('cause it's a case of "seeing is believing") is the massive productivity that the Mini offers.
    Want a shocker?
    Already as of a few years, most editing operations, more specifically, ALL DELETIONS, are actually snappier (faster and involving less anatomy) than what’s normal on a regular computer.
    The 8" plus virtual keyboard allows for speedy thumbing. I grant you that it won’t ever beat touch typing, but with the editing now so much faster than regular computers, it all evens out pretty well.
    How can it edit faster?
    Well it does away with text selection, a good 4/5ths of it.
    You know those clunky mini-handles? Say arrivederci.
