- The Black Ferns have played their first Test match in over two years, but it didn't exactly go to plan against England at Exeter's Sandy Park.

I’m sure next week’s encounter will be closer. Was at Sandy Park today and great too see both sets of fans applauding each other’s tries. Really enjoyable match to watch.

England and France have raised the bar over the pandemic. They've been knocking lumps out of each other for 2 years, whilst NZ haven't been able to play.
The Black Ferns will get better with gametime, but they've got a lot of catching up to do before the world cup.
They’ll get their mate if history is anything to go by.
Europe came out of lock down a fair bit earlier and had a head start

It was great being in the crowd today. New Zealand played their part and looked quite dangerous at times but their line out was a disaster, to the extent that penalties into the strong wind in the second half were either tapped or a scrum was opted for rather than kicking for touch. Given the lack of playing time for the NZ team recently this game will have removed some rust and I suspect the second game will be closer fought. All in all, though, well done to both teams for a very entertaining game. Thank you!

England have a proper comp. 10 team. Linked to big clubs. Much better set up then NZ (England is the largest union), nz have only just got 4 women super teams. NZ also had a bunch of youngsters. Good game from England! Looked fit.

Highlights will only show what looks good go watch full game. The real winner of the game is the ref. Yip black ferns wasn’t going to win by the look of things but the ref definitely made it worse for the black ferns

Line out needs work I feel. Not playing competitive matches for so long showed today. If England had been more accurate it would have been even worse for New Zealand.
Credit where credits due, great win England. Far too good and clinical. Lots of talented players. Keep your heads up Black Ferns, welcome back to real Test Rugby. That's the bar to meet, but I know the loss will hurt and you'll come back stronger.

No Woodman and Brazier or Winiata, and a few other key speedsters, for NZ and a lot of new players too, however well done NZ, well played after a long time with no international playing time.

These English women are something else, from the tight forwards, loosies to the fullback each have high level rugby IQ and they are skillful, atheletic and there fast players are FAST 😲

Never thought I'd say it but, "Brilliant English display." The New Zealanders were out-played by an impressive Red Roses squad. The mantle of Black Ferns XV invincibility was removed this day. Oooops!

My observations are based on fact. seeing IS believing, and I need not resort to spectacles yet. The Black Ferns Monday meeting was 'interesting' too I reckon. " C'mon you Ferns. I agree. Also, there are more mistakes made than in the men's game overall, which opens play up more. There was lots of quick ball, and the backs had some room. Great to see backs running at pace onto the ball when passed, not standing still waiting for a pass.

Referee should be reffing under 12’s. Put a top international ref in charge, it will even improve the standard of play.

Covid has turned a lot of sports on there heads, no substitute for tough opposition. The roses have had the Six Nations and France have provided real tough opposition. England even playing friendlies against them. Covid restrictions seem to have been a lot tougher south of the equator.
You can thank Jacinda for isolating the whole country(over a single case at times) for that. Now, she intends to implement her part of the NWO and create a two tiered society, to rule by decree and force. Awesome.
@@southernfriedkiwi6340 Massive pushback in the UK, seems that some leaders, are exploiting covid for their own political motives, personally I always had the impression that the Kiwi, were a zero BS tolerating nation.
That was quality and enjoyable viewing. But some of those passes looked to be forward, ref and touch should do better.
The 11 for the ferns was slow and not able to keep up with the England wingers.
@canvas bed probably, but given the score line attacking was not the problem today leaking tries was - now it was hard from the footage (so I was tracking the short stocky ponytail girl) but she was out of place and under paced with line breaks. This is likely a flaw in the overall team defence - but this is the risk with having the power wing.
@canvas bed agreed England had a few competitive matches against France - also the club level is not that bad at all. But I would say defence is usually the first piece to just work, since it requires just grunt and effort (yes the trust is required as well, but you can keep it simple). As you say international pace is a lot different and the ferns just need some matches to get that fitness back - but that 11 is too slow as an international winger, and will be a weakness in defence - high ball, kick and chase you name it other than attack.
@canvas bed I can see that also - a crash ball 12. As she is a handful to stop. In any case, women’s rugby, even more than Men’s, need a New Zealand squad at their peak again. As they represent the top 3 teams between England, France and NZ.
It wasn't the NZ 11 who the Red Roses fullback Ellie Kildunne really turned inside out for the 3rd try, it was 14 & 15.

Gee, the Black Ferns defence was pretty bloody leaky down that right hand side. Need to sharpen up (and number up)
Have no clue why our half back goes for a quick tap or a kick from a penalty after weve copped a yellow, ave to say she's waaaay too small to be flinging a quick long pass or even a box kick. Her replacement was way better pass kicking and all.
I’ve never seen half of these black ferns before. No excuse we still should have performed better than that. Looking at this though I hope our goal is to now build toward defending our World Cup trophy.
NZer here - a very big wakeup call for the Black Ferns.
They need to go over and over lineouts until they can do them in their sleep.
Anyway - there's nothing like a heavy loss to teach you what needs to be fixed.

You can fill the ground at Exeter, the home of the red roses, Twickenham you would struggle to get the same size crowd, and the stadium would look empty.

NZ Black Ferns, you got beaten by a hungrier group of Women who wanted it more, You looked slow & at most sluggish, so you have time to fix the errors before the world cup. lets learn from the mistakes & fix it which we hope you can do. We got smashed England too good for the Black Ferns. They were totally outplayed by a much fitter side and quicker backs. I think this is the first time the Black Ferns have been beaten by this margin.

Not bad black ferns haven’t played in two years. I wouldn’t read to much into this game lots of mistakes. Ref was rubbish at out of her league. England had good test match fitness. And made the most of the black fern mistakes. Black ferns will learn from this game. Once they get there player combinations sorted they will be back and better. 🤙🏾

Wow some rust there. The NZRU some bad management to expose the team with out better prep. Plus I don't know how a flanker can roll being pinned to the bottom of a ruck.
That's why the ref made a cynical call. 🙄 Was this the Black Ferns' #12 first for NZ? She could have set the tone if played through the obstruction instead of complaining to the ref.
