Hi Johnny, I have been there you get so far and then start all over again. You do very well for the conditions you work in for spraying without the correct equipment. I would always stick to the same make of paint for a project and just use their materials primer paint and clear coat etc. Still what you have done is looking great mate . Cheers Bro have a great Christmas.
Thank you bro!- yep- same brands next time!!- I got away with tough black as a base before and it fooled me into thinking it would be ok!!! bah!! have a great christmas too buddy!
Worth all the work I think. I feel your frustration, I recently was turning a coffee grinder body, after three failed attempts with wood I already had (cracks and faults in it), I ended up going out and buying a chunk before I could get it done! It was a gift for my daughter, if I was selling it would have lost me money, no one would pay three days wages for it hahahahhahah!
So happy to see an update, sorry to hear you're running into compatibility problems with the paint. I hope you can sort it out, because your design is really beautiful! I love how it frames the asymmetrical gas cap in a very purposeful manner!
Hey JC. I really feel your pain. I had similar problems and meant to comment on the last video but seive brain forgot. Yep tuff black does not play nice with other paint as we both know now. !!! I am also using that paint but candy apple red on the other halfs bike. The headlight bucket ended up having to be sanded right back to bare plastic as that was causing a reaction in places. I wonder what the side panels will be like. I think its probably better to stay with one brand or line just to be safe. Oh and their technical help bloke is great. Keep at it mate it will look great especially when you hit it with their 2k lacquer 👍
yeah to be fair- tough black is supposed to be used alone with no primers or top coat....i had some left and needed black- but next time maybe i'll stick to one brand!! cheers buddy!!!!
You can very gently run a grey scotch pad to smooth the edges on paint build up between the colours, which will in turn help when clear coating it smooth. Gently - should be in bold ;)
thanks buddy!! - i hope i can get to the point of clear coating!! the bloody reaction is still causing me grief!! next time it's just coming to you...! ;-)
@@johnnycactus0 nonsense...its all learning. Next time you'll be richer in another experience and know how to avoid these issues. It happens, I cried so many time when paint job went south...its not even funny.
@@MackieBass I hear ya buddy!! I respected you before- and it's now gone up further!! Despite the frustrations there is a lot of rewarding moments even in the fuck ups!
Did you use some silicone remover? Because it's coming in the same spot. Silicone is a bitch to get out. You can't get it out with acetone or brake cleaner
i may give that a go mate- i thought the sanding, acetone, degreaser would have been enough but maybe it's not all out!! or it's reacting with the tough black...
Hi, as someone already said, tough black doesn't make a good base coat, it's meant to be used as a top coat, Just base coat it with satin black of the same brand as the rest of the paint your using and it'll be fine. I know all this from experience, many hours of sanding it all off and starting again.
I took an expensive and time consuming chance there!!! I got away with it before but this time no joy!!...maybe hopefully I can sort that patch out....or it'll be right back to square one again!! Argh!

Thank you Eric- it's getting there- hopefully an update after the weekend!!- It's not going to be perfect...but a learning curve nonetheless!
You're getting there mate. It's harder than some people that just go for the easy "satin black" option! Good luck with your next go at it.
I've been soooo tempted to satin black it!! ha ha- but i will persevere!!!!
