Great video John - very jealous and miss getting airborne - too much work and not enough play etc..! What altitude were you when you crossed the island shore for Gosport - looks like you had plenty in the bank when you got over there...and of course congratulations to Ri and Will as well - great achievement..!
Hi Gordon thanks for the message I think I left the Isle of Wight Shore with about 2600 feet. And still had about 1400 ft when I arrived at Gosport. Yes you are always working (that's why I call you Gordon NHS) 😁. But look forward to seeing you on the hill soon
Jealousy is a rubbish felling while trying to enjoy a good flight. You landed by my brothers place. Well done dude. What height did you leave the IOW coastline? And what height were you at gosport coastline?
@@johnrudge777 800ft drop. Nice glide. I think at 2300ft I'd have not crossed. You guys got bigger balls than me. Last time I looked into it I looked for the shortest route from southsea to iow, at 2300ft with no lift or sink would see you on the ground at the coast. So I figured I'd want 4000ft to make it safe. Maybe I need another look at the math 😂 Edit......2464ft with a 9:1 glide to cover 4.2 miles coastline to coastline Southsea to Ryde beach. So I thought m8nimum of 1000ft extra for simple crossing, 3500ft should do it but I'd want more. Though there is tail wind to help out too. Your numbers give you a glide (with tail wind over 4.1 miles) of 27:1 yikes....Nice wing.
@@Ripstop_pilot yes I would definitely not have gone if I didn't have a good ground speed, which was about 58 km an hour on half bar, so I felt safe enough. But I must admit I was a bit nervous when I started riding across because I got into some sink and I realise that point that I was at the point of no return and I had to commit because if I turn back I would have been gliding into wind and in sink 🙄
Well done!! Looks amazing = Very Jealous :-)

Hi there thank you for your comment, I was about 2700 feet when I started the to cross over and I think it's about 2.5k across
