Dude, you're expert!!! It shows how you play first couple minutes, maximizing the scores, dodging the barrels, etc. You're GOOD!
Not sure what you mean? Arcade submissions are confirmed.
Dean is the man. MAME is a great tool. But there is more respect for
the arcade world record. Can't wait to see what Dean puts up at the 2nd Kong Off.
Just noticed that a triple barrel jump only scores 500 points, even though the game shows it scores 800 points. Thanks for the amazing gameplay my friend, good stuff indeed! 👍 👍
Chuck Norris scored 4,788,256,233 on Donkey Kong...blind folded.
***** With the power glove!!
Cheating with the MAME load feature of coarse like Mitchell lol
@@enrico759 Is that how Billy beat Steve?
When talking about world records you need to compare apples to apples. If a player on MAME can choose between arrow keys, 8-way joystick, or 4-way joystick, you can't fairly compare their DK play to someone who can only use a Nintendo 4-way jotstick. Even Dean knows this because I believe his most recent DK MAME record (1.16 million!!!!!) was done with an actual DK control panel. For strictly playing purposes MAME is great! But if you are going for a world record, do it on the real thing.
Answered my own question. Get near DK, but not extremely close, and move the joystick away from DK at the top of your jump. This enables you to get the points without risking being so close.
But when it comes to setting a world record, the Arcade format is superior.
Do you think the fatigue of pushing arrow keys is anywhere comparable to slamming a joystick around for 3 hours?
Another advantage with a key pad is you can hold down two directions and toggle back and forth instantly, while a joystick has to physically be moved back and forth.
This is huge in a game like DK, where point pressing requires precise left or right directions to expand object detection when jumping.
So you're saying they ban people from using gloves in arcade records? No, they don't. I actually believe that retro games are much easier to play via oversized joysticks/snap buttons. If fatigue was an issue then records wouldn't be set after playing for 12 hours straight like MOST of these DK records are.
What is the relevance of your inp comment?
Both formats have different verification methods.
Anyone can't play MAME. You have to have internet and a computer.
Again, I am glad MAME exsits because some games are so rare you could never play them and Arcades in general are hard to find. Also practicing at home is way more convenient.
Pause at 27:17... how did you not die? I don't want to be one of those "FAKKEEE" people but there's just something off about this!
While it looks like the barrel hits him, he's actually standing in a perfect pixel spot where it will not touch him because of the way the hit detection is determined
That is so true and so lucky
27:14 just so I can watch it in full
The free emulator program is not this program I play. Is that one available somewhere? This game has metal barrels, all mine are wood. This game starts with the barrel thrown to the far ladder, mine starts with the wood barrel falling straight down. Etc
You must press left or right in mid-air while jumping near Kong.
"If you're interested there's a potential donkey kong kill screen coming up"
You can check yourself the Mame's inp but not arcades.
Anyone can play Mame but not anyone can play arcades.
So Mame>Arcade.
why did the last guy die? one second he is hitting the barrel with the hammer and the next he is dead out of the blue.
You better reupload Dean's new score. Its just wrong to have old outdated videos on here.
Mirrors are on sale at Target, don't live in need.
Best Donkey Kong video EVER!
Yes, apples to apples but it was you who talked about arcades and mame. There is no real thing. Arcade has its own WR, Mame has its own WR. Its easy to check, playback and verify a Mame record, its difficult to check an arcade score(usually with obscure settings) and impossible to playback it.
How did Jumpman die while hammering at the end, that was so weird???????????
Seriously??? I can't tell wood or metal barrels. All I can see are pixels :-)
99% of retro gamers (especially players overseas) don't have access to "real" arcade machines. Why should they be penalized? Look at what happened after King of Kong came out. Now there's like 25 people with million point games. Those people didn't even know about the DK competitions until the film came out. The arcade purists just want to make sure as few people as possible can submit "legit" scores so they can keep theirs.
Because you can use different or altered hardware to make playing the game easier - It's hardly rocket science
Question.. What would happen if you used the glitch that is found on level 1 to beat the level on the kill screen ?
Its not necessary to use the arrow keys, u can get a joystick like arcade's.
Looks like you have the same version as me. This is the version of mame with the missing sounds (jump, walk ect ect) for Donkey Kong. What version of mame has all the sounds for Donkey Kong????? DK is in my top favorite game all time
I maxed at 500,000 damn I better step my shit up.
I have a video where I got over this score
I wish to know how you are able to get the points on the ziggurat level by jumping so far away from Donkey Kong. The actual game, and my MAME set, require me to be much much closer.
Here's the other thing: When it comes to gaming consoles do they have separate leaderboards for controllers? For example, if I set a record in SMB on the NES and I use the NES Advantage controller - do I have to be put on a separate leaderboard? The answer is no.
This game is a nice metaphor for life......
This is not how I play. I am much worse at it. I am glad this professional play is on here.
piracy is piracy even if you play it good
Yep, but Im not gonna upload it for now anyway :P since it's just Dean reupping his old score and it's a relatively minor improvement
Between recording, editing, and uploading it will take me about 5+ hours to do that for a < 15k point increase. I'll get it to it when I can :)
I totally disagree... 27:15 is certainly a clutch position and play, but it's there and solid...
And how will arcades be confirmed?
i meant 27:17.. that double double situation (really double, single, and diagonal I think)
The guy who has this MAME record has also done close to a million on the arcade version. It's legitimate.
First, where's levels 2 and 3?
Lol you just broke the game from the start, getting points for things you didn't jump over and the jumpy thing on the fourth level (counting the two levels skipped)
Did he kill him for his fur?
2 fireballs then barrel spacing
It doesn't feel the same without Jumpman's walking & jumping sound effects lol but great job regardless
Just listen to TOM LEYKIS!!!
there a new Record
wow 3 hours just 2 complete a good game that worth it :D
Why is it that the pie factory level is level 7? Should it not be the second level of this game? Is yhis not the extended arcade version ?
Thats the difference between Japanese and US ROMs. Different level structure.
7650 for High Score? Do you guys even realize what 765 means in Japanese?
No what does it mean?
???
Any idea where to find the MAME .inp file for this particular gameplay? Thank you in advance.
***** Link to his current WR of 1,206,800: replay.marpirc.net/inp/1/a/1/up_dkong_1206800_wolf106.zip
OOPS! Forgot to record.
How did he lost? he hitted that ball...
-_- look up "kill screen"
I just wondered if it ran out of memory like Pac Man
Hey what version of DK is this or mame version should I say. On my version you cant jump next to DK on the rivet stage to get points....
what does it mean when the level music changes??
What a beast.
Supposedly billy Mitchell cheated and they took off his record. What the actual fuck
Oh so the highscore stops counting after million
Isn't Hank Chien current world record holder with 1,138,600?!
Yes he is for the arcade platform. For MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) Dean Saglio currently holds the world record with 1,206,800
Oh I see, thanks :)
there was some amazing beats in level 4 :p
what, you did three hours straight!!
your rom's missing some sounds
Not the WR now :)
L=22 game over
no matter which version i use, i never get the option of jumping next to kong for 100 points, it does not work for me... why not? anyone?
Kernzy P while you're in midair you have to press towards donkey kong. That changes the area the game uses to detect the score.
Awesome play!
점수 따는데 선수 네요..
I'm going to get 1,400,200 I am the DK KING
Is it impossible to make it to the top on the kill screen?
Correct
What mame version you are using ??
This game was played on WolfMAME106
This emulator will not work for me .. I use mame 151 , this work fine for me. And I don't need a gui. thank you !
My record is 1.3 mill.
Lies
actually it is, its more than that. I have 1.303.200. Now thats confirmed.
Confirmed where? How? Where is your proof?
Arcade World Record:
1,138,600 Hank Chien 11/1/2012
MAME Emulator World Record:
1,206,800 Dean Saglio 10/4/2013
Those are confirmed. Your score is not. I bet you can't get past the first elevators.
first 5 L 192.500 wow
You better get it right now pronto d3scride, yes I know who you are.
Mah mahahahahah hahahahaha. yeah.......
3:52-4:12HOLY...
@0:27:19 Jesus.
Fake
Peter De Klerk Real
27:17 FAKE. The real game youd be dead. A great player though
+Field Hippy Naw, this is legit. It's a matter of how the hitboxes line up.
+Mitchell Elliott What I mean is its not original programming, stand up arcade machine. Those are much, much more unforgiving. Ive owned 2 all original DK stand up arcade machines for my home use. Just sold one earlier this year in fact. 27:05, and surely more, youd be dead in the real one too.
+Field Hippy
The emulation for Donkey Kong is near 100% across the board on the MAME version he is using -especially with regards hitbox detection (the only thing it would be off on is simulating the speed of the game). I know this because I'm quite connected with the DK community's knowledge of the hitboxes and have also kept up with emulation developments for this game in particular.
Mitchell Elliott Ive heard some say that, and I say no way. Dude the pixel graphics even look different. And if you even barely get touched on the outermost periphery of Marios body in the original, youre immediately tumblin haloed circles.
+Field Hippy The graphics looking different probably have to do with how the CRT on your cabs were set as well as the simple fact that it is a CRT and not a digital screen. I also own my own DK cab and I have even replicated this sort of sprite overlap numerous times. If you are used to the game at a high level you know the ways in which sprites can overlap without dying. The case in the video isn't even the most extreme case, but it is admittedly one of the coolest. It is actually what got me into serious DK play.
MAME Records=Stupid. MAME should only be for practice. Records should only be for arcade submissions.
Anyone find it odd over and over, how high can you get?
