In a break from Jubilee-class tradition, 46115 Scots Guardsman makes a short trip to Par for the day. Starting in Bristol, the ‘Royal Duchy’ ran on time all day with no problems attacking the West Country Banks, despite being completely unassisted. Seen attacking 3 difficult gradients, it roared up the last one of Hemerdon. In chronological order, shots were taken at:
00:00 Attacking the Banks
00:10 Allerford Inn
01:25 Rattery
04:12 Saltash
07:10 Lostwithiel
08:35 Glynn Valley
11:20 Hermerdon
There was no shortage of whistles in this film, as well as some hill climbs. Thanks to my brother for his excellent drone footage.
I hope you enjoy watching, if you did, please like, comment and subscribe, it really is rather flattering.

You captured the sound superbly, especially on the climb up Hemerdon.
Thank you
Wonderful photography and coverage !
Really enjoyed it many thanks 🙏
Many thanks!
That's some display of power from the Scot. Superb.
A first class video with excellent finale. Well done.
Many thanks!
That's the hardest I've seen that loco work. Shap's nothing compared with that! 😅
Another enjoyable video was not expecting the drone shot. Slowly becoming a fan of LMS loco's🚂🚂🚂🚂
I'm not 😂 but thanks for watching 👍
Particularly liked shot of her coming off the Tamar Bridge!
Inaugural shot for me, will try another variation soon.
Fantastic stuff!
Hemerdon never fails to please does it mate ?
Regards, Liam
Glad you enjoyed it.
Much as I hate the crowds, it has to be said that Hemerdon brings out the best and you were lucky with the sun being behind a bit of cloud. Well captured and entertaining vid Hector. Best regards, Alan
Thank you Alan, look forward to seeing what Gresley can do. Hector
Lovely photography and sound. First class. But the real plaudits go to the footplate crew - superb handling of that machine. very little ( inefficient) black clag, rarely lifting the safety valves. Really good enginemanship all round. Bravo !!
Thanks
Much more impressive show than the jubilee !
More powerful locomotive!
Wow!
Some great locations with a superb performance by the Scot. Whoever would have dreamt she would be doing this when she was at Dinting?
Top work!
Do you notice as it comes under the bridge, there's a sort of rhythmic 'boop-boop-boop' sound? I think that's the whistle bouncing in time with the pieton strokes. That loco tends to do that
Hemerdon 1, Speakers 0 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Top vid, thanks👍👍👍
😂
Some excellent filming and impressive sound, particularly on Hemerdon. But yet another engine leaking like a sieve when pushed to the limit. It is all too prevalent these days, and is so unnecessary. All it needs is a little TLC, some down-time for essential preventive maintenance, before it all goes pear-shaped.
I think the steam is probably mostly from the sanders
Since asbestos was outlawed, maintaining effective cylinder packing has been a perennial problem with most U.K. steam locos. The Scot looks pretty steam-tight though?
No, I do not agree, the steam sanders are not in use, and why would they be on a perfectly dry rail? The right-hand piston gland is the worst, and can actually be seen and heard blowing in time with the exhaust; the left-hand is not quite as bad, but still not good. And asbestos packings were done away with more than 25 years ago, so no excuse there for not having found a suitable substitute, given the time-scale involved. It all comes down to over-use of engines, and too little time for essential maintenance.
