- Hey you guys! I saw someone request a hair tutorial that falls within regulations of the Air Force, so here we are! Definitely take a peek at AFI 36-2903 if you're curious about how you can style your hair, I'm not an expert!

I’ve literally told my husband so many times that I’m going to get yelled at in BMT for my hair because I could never get it flat or tame down the fly always. I watched the video last night while he was on base, he came home and the first thing I said was “omg! So you know that girl in the Air Force that makes UA-cam videos that I always tell you about?! She just answered my prayers! I have to use a boar’s hair bristle brush!!!” And he was super excited because all he has to do for his hair it get it buzzed, so he had no clue how he was going to help me with that aspect 🤣

Great video! I’m so tired of watching sock and donut buns tutorials. I still haven’t been able to use a donut or one of those slap bracelets wrapping bun tools successfully. And they never looked any better and actually hurt my head more than just regular elastics. Your video had me trying just pins and I was really surprised by how much less my head hurt. I bought “spin pins” recently and found them to be even use, keep the hold better and uses less pins so that’s my new go-to method.
I've never thought to use a magnetic sewing pin holder for Bobby pins. Blew my freaking mind.

Everyday washing BAD. You strip your hair of essential oils. At the height of my days as a live performing metal circuit club guitarist, I only water-washed and used glops of conditioner to detangle. We actually played near several USAF installations and the scene in "This is Spın̈al Tap" is real. Radio transmissions between various personnel bled through wireless guitar-to-amplifier systems.

I use both hair ties and Bobby pins because I have thick long hair and I never mind slight pull either because I know it’s tight and won’t fall out
When I had hair and had to do this, I loved those spiral pin things to keep it extra secure through the middle. Or you could go all GI Jane like I did and chop it all off

My hair is super thick! In my case, if I ever joined, the sock bun would likely work best for me.

Wish I had my long hair back. Bobby pins and hair ties barely hold for my hair cause it's super thick
How do you keep you bun stable with bobby pins? I can't even keep it tight with a hair tie
I love your videos they are so helpful! Have you ever tried using cork screw bobby pins? (I think that’s what they are called) I have really long and thick hair as well and those are so amazing! I only have to use a couple and they hold your hair superrrr well!

Um like this would for sure be the one i would follow because most others put all that gel noooo anyway if u want a good healthy gel that stimulates hair growth and cheap but holds really well look up how to make flaxseed gel from seeds also what i do instead once my hair starts to get stiff and b4 gets all way dry i brush it and hair becomes frizz free and soft witch is crazy for me coz i have really curly hair and my curl pattern became beautiful its a miracle by way ur way too pretty 😍
How much time do they give you to do your hair in basic
I wore a silk liner inside my cover in military school. Much better for your scalp than oil. But anyway, you are beautiful.
This is how I do my buns but the middle part always flops down and my bun will stick straight out after a few hours

OMG thank you for this! I'm aiming to join AF Reserves closer to the end of 2021 and my hair is longer as well and I've been trying to figure out how to do this. My mom lives with my husband and me and she's retired Army and she chopped hers when she served. LOL So I figure if I can start trying to get my hair in check and trained. Plus I work in a restaurant so this is appropriate, also!
What happens if your bun falls down during pt ?
You are allowed to wear your hair in a ponytail or braid(s) for PT, so you shouldn't have that problem :)
Elora Jean Does that also go for PT during BMT? Like wearing it in a pony tail??
VLEO 1900 in BMT you wear ponytails for PT. You can do bun, but most just do pony since you’re rushing out the door

in my navy class we have to use donuts for our bun
@@2IzzyReelz they did give me a choice to fo without or with, but my hair is hard to do with out the donut and im in a class, not in actually navy:)
If I wash my hair everyday it won't lay flat. When I go to bmt I'll probably wash my hair 1 or 2 times because my hair can not.

When I was in the AF it was AFR 35-10 and we knew all the loopholes. Our class As were much better than the same uniform of today. Why not adopt the new Army's Pinks and Greens in an AF blue shade.

what did you do with your hair every day for pt? can you braid it instead of put it in a bun?

You are allowed to have hair gel and other hair products.
Do you have to have it parted on the side? My part is in the middle, but my buns don't normally have a part at all

Some people told me after training in the Air Force (2 or 4 months), people who are not citizens will get a citizenship and their parents also will get it. Is it true? Thank you
I've heard of people gaining their citizenship through joining the Air Force, but I haven't heard their parents also got citizenship. That's something I would absolutely talk to a recruiter about and clarify with your own research.

Hey Elora, im in DEP for the airforce
& i have a natural fro w shaved sides. Ive been growing it out bc i supposed that can b considered "faddish" but 1. my hair isnt long enough for a ponytail or a bun & 2. The bulk exceeds 3inches.
Sooo, i was thinking of shaving the back to match the sides (but leaving @ least the req. 1/4in) thus leaving the top & backish for the most part. Ik u just got in but is that acceptable? Bc rn im @ a lose, lose ( bulk & no bun) My recruiter isnt shit so ive been diving thru info on my own. Sorry for the rambling thanks in advance!

I used to use a hairnet bobbypinned just over the bun to keep it together. Is this allowed in the airforce?
Oh yeah! You can still do that as long as the net is the same color as your hair.

I have a really dumb question...can you take a small hair dryer to BMT? I have very curly hair that take last a long time to air dry and is difficult to smooth down in to a bun. If I can at least halfway straighten it, it will cooperate better. Any suggestions for curly hair in BMT will help!
Soooo you're sorta out of luck, girl! You can't use any hair products like dryers, flat irons, etc. You wouldn't even have time! You sorta just have to work with what ya got :)

I currently have a side cut, like the right side of my head is shaved to about 1/2 inch length and since my hair is dark it’s not very noticeable and it can be easily covered by the rest of my hair. Will I be able to keep my hair like this or will they make me grow it out before I can join?
Soooo if it can be covered it's probably not a huge deal, if anything they would make you even it out so it's all one length.
When would you do your hair at night or in the morning?
I typically wash my hair at night, and put it up in the morning.

Women are allowed to wear cosmetics in uniform usually, I have a few videos on what sort of makeup looks are allowed if you wanna check those out :)
I was reading somewhere that the navy or the marines was now allowing females to wear ponytails, do you think that the air force will do this too? Because I cannot do a nice bun to save my life and i am really worried about it

While you are PTing your hair is allowed to be "free-flowing" which includes ponytail and braid(s).
I’m thinking about going into the Air Force, but I have really short hair, like male haircut short, are there any regulations about girls who have that short of hair? Like does it have to be a certain length that’s longer or would I have to buzz it off? I’ve been worrying about this so an answer would be great if you have one. Thanks!
So, females are allowed to have super short hair! Just recently the AFI was updated where they could even buzz it if they want. You can find the exact details if you Google AFI 36-2903, in the grooming standards for female hair section
Other than the use of the Briogeo spray, do you think this is practical for BMT?
Nalani Indigo I would say you either need A TON of bobby pins or just a hair tie for BMT because you’re walking/running/going up&down stairs so much the bobby pins are definitely not gonna hold much. I used a combination of hair tie and bobby pins in BMT.
for the bun, does the hair HAVE to be parted to the side or can it be brushed straight back?

Hey there, so you'll definitely have to write him physical letters because he won't be able to use his phone for things like that. He can write you letters if he has time but idk how good guys are about writing lol.

Yeah definitely! If you prefer to wear your hair down instead, it must be short enough. It basically has to be like...chin-length lol because it can't go below the bottom of your collar.
That's what I did! I found it so helpful because I'm horrible at doing hair. You'll still be expected to slick it back though

You didnt have time for all of that in Basic, hair spray, oils.
Some of the ladies I was in basic with , pony tail occasionally they twisted it into a bun. If your spending that much time on your hair every morning your in Permanent Part Assignment. Also your makeup is to heavy and to many rings for being on Duty. I am a USAF Vet
