    And it's rare to see a natural hair influencer with short hair

    • @afrolique
      @afrolique  Рік тому +11

      Yes! There are a fewer influencer with short hair because people are so focused on growing long hair and the algorithm knows this.

      Women of all races value long hair I don’t see it as a bad thing it’s just something women like

    Following people who have your hair type and texture is very important. I seek out black African ladies who have true 4C hair because I learn helpful things from them.

      It is honestly the best decision one could make and I’m glad I realized this early.

    If I could sum up this video, there is a need for transparency and authenticity in the natural hair content. But, it’s also challenging when there is always a need for "leadership," which isn’t a bad thing, but people assume that because there’s a leader, there’s no need for personal responsibility. When the "natural hair" movement caught fire, we needed leaders in an arena that had been unearthed for so long. So initially, I didn’t mind the term "guru," but I also didn’t believe that that "guru" had the ultimate knowledge and that what they said was law. especially because you had multiple gurus at the time.
    However, I think the information was mishandled by both the creator and the viewer because personal hygiene (hair, skin, chemistry, etc.) is personal. There cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach to beauty and hair care. There are too many variables. Yes, we have a general baseline (everyone needs to clean their hair and bodies), but not everyone can use the same bar of soap because of skin sensitivities. But, I know creators have always stated, "What works for me may not work for you." But consumers of content can be lazy. And THAT'S a personal problem.
    And consumer behavior in general is tricky. We’re always out looking for what’s going to give us an overnight solution to our problems. It blows my mind how many people still fall for "get rich quick" schemes and "grow your hair overnight" ploys. But that’s to the detriment of the consumer, not the influencer or brand. Marketers are out for a profit and will stump over whoever they need to, lie, and say whatever is necessary to get more money. The love of money (not money itself) is the root of all evil.
    That also applies to clickbait titles. Yes, it’s insane that your title has to be alluring and tempting in order to get views. But that’s the lack of confidence in this system and a potential insecurity of the creator. I know my titles can be clickbait-y, but you will get what the title says. However, again, the dishonesty and need to be competitive in this space drive creators to indulge in shifty methods. They don’t really care about their viewers. They want more views so they can make more money or be sponsored by a brand. Dishonesty or embellishing the truth is the policy if you’re trying to get short-term viral success. I don’t have the energy for that.
    And as you said, certain types don’t get the same amount of exposure because our world has an arbitrary beauty standard that people are still deceived by and ensnared by. That’s why I created my UA-cam channel. I’ll be the coily-hair, low-density, fine-strand, short-length representative. And that’s okay if it’s not celebrated by the algorithm or the world, but I’ll do it with joy if it means one person gets set free from that.
    So all in all, I agree with everything you said, and hopefully, prayerfully, we see revivals take place in the content here. Lord knows we need it. And when I look at the scope of the condition of the black community (at least here in the States), HAIR is the least of our problems.

    Especially with wash and go's lots of these natural hair influencers talk about the millions of expensive products and method to achieve the "perfect" wash and go but what is not often discussed is the inability for some curl or coil types to clump together to achieve that style no matter what product you use or technique🙄

    • @afrolique
      @afrolique  Рік тому +3

      True! No matter the product or technique used, 4c hair wash n go will never look like the hair of people with looser texture. For so long I thought something was well with my wash and go because it did not look like what I saw online.
      I’m glad we’re learning more now and accepting our hair for what it is. 💜

    Everything you said is the absolute truth don't worry even if nobody like this video I will like it a million times over😍.
    When you refused to compromise your principles and lie to your followers all in the name of working with brands, I love you more sis. Most people would have jumped at that juicy offer but you did not. Thanks for not lowering your standards🥰.
    Few months into UA-cam I almost fell for the NHC trap too, I just had to take a step back and try to understand things better but I've decided to do me and let God handle the rest.

    I really think that alot of natural hair followers turn to miss understand the natural hair content creators..I think they just say what works for them...let's all realize that they did a good job in helping clueless people who want to care for natural hair.... I mean taking care of nature hair is nothing out of the ordinary ..it really never changes twicks and turns but they really almost all the same....I for one love you all...I take what I feel is okey for me and I drop what I'm like nahhh not good...when u look at it ... for people to watch your UA-cam video general alot of natural hair content creators and other creators put up catchy captions just to get attention....( That's just the fact)
    Nways I love your content and please keep pouring out lovely hair content...love u all.....

    Yes! I agree with always doing your own research. I always say in videos for people to try things for THEMSELVES because just because my hair likes it doesn’t mean someone else’s hair will like it and Vice versa. I am also learning new things about my hair every day. I recently learned how to honestly do wash n gos for my hair and I have been natural for 10+ years 😂😂😂😂!! Correct, everything is just suggestions at the end of the day. Nothing is the “gospel” when it comes to natural hair. I agree that the experts are trained professionals who truly understand not only hair, but scalp in and out. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people decide to go to UA-cam rather than the doctor when they are having serious hair issues.

      As a “people” black folks always need a “leader” or “guru” to lead them to the promised land, which isn’t a bad thing. But the issue is taking responsibility for themselves. I don’t know if, as a whole, we were taught to discover. To ask questions. To experiment. And that’s why we’re spoonfeeders. Not just in hair, but in life. Always gotta blame someone for where we are in life. Always gotta ask for handouts because we got setbacks. Meanwhile, we engage in self-destructive behaviors. It’s crazy!

    I also think the community has degenerated over the years and content creators are more concerned about the money than actually dishing out value.
