I first got the Luzon just to see if I liked the huge folders. I did 😂 But it really holds up despite the super low price. Very different than the Espadas but in some ways more liveable. It's easier to deploy and fold one-handed. The straight shape works well in waistband or deep pockets.

Just catching up on another informative video. Decption is such an important key in blade arts. A great delve into the Luzon's usefulness. Salud!

GREAT VIDEO Rolando! Learned a couple of things I never knew before. I have two Luzon's. They were my first Cold Steel knives. I've have issues with their liner lock (on both knives) and had them replaced. I just don't use them like I used to but, that blade up method takes the stress away from the liner. My favorite knives are daggers so that blade up method won't be too difficult to get used to and, it'll be another tool that I'll have in my box, that I'll probably (hopefully) never need!

An adaptation in clothing is to use a button up shirt for the cloak and dagger methodology. Jackets are hard to justify in warmer climates or seasons. It’s a lot easier to wear a loose thin button up shirt with a thin T-shirt or tank top underneath. Winter is coming so I think I’ll start practicing that with my flannels.
Also, the Filipino openings are really slow. The Matanga method is really good. It’s something similar to what I use for cutting string for my job.

I've got the 6" Luzon and 4 other of their XL folders. In some ways I like the Luzon more than the others. The blade design is the most versatile of all of them and its got the best deployment of all of them as well imo.
I almost didn't buy it because I normally don't like the steel it's made of. Cold Steel has the tempering and heat treatment aced on this steel. I was pleasantly surprised after using it to carve hardwoods. It held its edge better than the other knives I have in the same steel and its easy to put a razor edge on it.
I'd love having one in 3V steel with the tri lock like most Cold Steel blades have. Dollar for dollar there are no other large folders that comes anywhere close imo. I like this channel, it's interesting to me. I've never used a knife in a fight but I have faced opponents with knives several times. I was stabbed in one of them and slashed in another. The other ones didn't land any cuts. All of them look in the mirror and remember why it's not a good idea to attack people with knives.😊 I had knives in every encounter but didn't use them because I didn't want the trouble it would have caused. I will use one if I have to but hopefully that never happens.

Thank you and I really believe that the Luzon is the most underrated big folder in the industry. $40 and it does double-duty. I have a friend who is a professional cook and he uses it daily.
Thank you for sharing your stories - I’ve found the same. Carrying actually keeps you out of trouble because you don’t want to use them. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

ive have noticed the same issue on the Luzon, the lock's lock seems to be on the wrong side. even as a right hander i had been carrying my pocket knife on the left to save my car door. this happens to give a better traditional open and access to the 2x lock

ps the double lock is needed, i was using it incorrectly as a very light machete to remove very small twigs off a branch and without the lock it closed on me. i wasn't going hard at all so it was not horrifying but it was a decent deep cut... i was just trying to get a twig to play with my brothers doggo

I thought I had broken the Luzon but I had just left the lock on. It's a quirk of the knife to adjust to. Not as strong/secure as a Triad lock but easier to manipulate.

On the Manila opening working better with the Luzon, I found that it works even better with the smaller versions (the medium) since those ones are small enough that with a stilletto/fairbairn-sykes grip, you can reach the flicker with your pointer finger and then the knife incentivizes you to have the opening channel facing upwards to give clearance for the blade.
Addition: also the blades of the smaller version are light enough that you don’t need to snap the knife forward in order to deploy the blade. You can literally point the knife forward closed, and then just use the flicker to deploy the blade.
