This is the Adineko from Catalinbread. When magnetic tap ruled the world in the 60's there was one murky, quirky alternative, the oil can. This purely mechanical device involved a rotating drum of electrolytic oil through which guitar signal passes. Nothing about them was practical, except for the tone, and Catalinbread has worked hard to give us the authentic oil can experience without the hassle. Every aspect of a digital oil can delay can be controlled with the Adineko, from oil thickness to playback head panning. Original oil can delays were used for slapback because it's all the delay time they had. The Adineko provides a much longer delay time, stretching the possibilities of an old-school oil can far beyond the original technology for haunting soundscapes and murky reverberations that ooze vintage cool. An added Reverb knob adds even more thickness to the Adineko, and it's capable of self oscillations that slice through the oil and bubble to the surface. Like all Catalinbread pedals, the Adineko is made from all the good stuff right here in Portland Oregon.
I don't care that it's digital, that is one of the best sounding delays I've heard
Christian K. Mine should be arriving today. I’ve been eyeing it for over a year and must’ve watched every YT video with the Adineko. I had a choice last year between it and the Belle Epoch and I chose the Belle which I LOVE but the Adineko is unique.
Nice job on The Beach Boys tune Andy!
Whoa! Andy busting out Beach Boys for what may be the greatest PGS intro I think I have seen. Reminds me of the old Deluxe Memory Man but with more control over the warble and a little spring reverb on top. Dig it.
His bluesy thing on the strat really got me.. I had goosebumps, and it's been a long time since a piece of gear did that for me. Nice job, Andy! gear is nothing but a science experiment without the player.
I can't watch Andy's demos 'cause then I want to buy everything he plays.
10w30 for winter use and 10w40 for summer!
Some of those foreign jobs recommend 5W-20 YEAR-ROUND!
@@flatsixx VW owner here. Can confirm.
I tried this pedal today and compared it to a carbon copy and this pedal was a hands down winner.
Its so good, its like spring reverb evil twins
Albatros! Love the Peter Green. I had completely forgotten about the old oil can delays. Really nice pedal bringing it back.
Catalinbread are just delay masters! I don't know if anything will replace my Echorec for my 'non conventional' delay, but I am sure as hell going to try one out.
They are just as much dirt masters, if not more so...
Catalinbread are killing it with the delays lately...!
That intro was incredible...
BTW, Catalinbread seems to be producing the best value in pedals right now. Everything is very good, and fairly priced.
This is perfect to push the guitar back in the mix, i love it and i'd like to see a stereo version!
Great demo as always. Liking the moodiness this pedal brings.
Love ya Andy thanks for the beach boys memory.
the riff at the top....sounds soooo good
Nice Telemin on "Good Vibrations." :)
Damn dude, you never cease to amaze me w/ your playing!!
Love this pedal. One of my favorites in my collection. With some fuzz and wah on electric leads, you get an awesome sexy-sleazy sort of thing going. This pedal oozes vibe. Love it. Awesome vid, too.
Good Vibrations at the beginning, NICE!!!
I bet this thing would be one hell of an inspiration box when hooked up between a funky vintage slide guitar and a grimy old tweed amp.
Yes please
Today's program is brought to you by Oil of Olay, the favorite oil of Spanish bull fighters
Nice Sounds, i love it !
Andy, what a great test again ! ! You always choose good titles and you play it so well !! Thanks !
Great sounding vintage echo, might have to try this one!
Amazing demo Andy. Thanks for sharing
Amazing! You match each pedal up to a perfect selection of song samples and let the playing do the talking.
Well thought out in every respect. All the best to you.
I kind of wonder how this one would do stacked with another delay in a kind of ambient wash. Something tells me that it could be something special...
I am not a Beachboys fan in any way BUT this guitar rendition is superb! Thanks Andy! :-)
Probably goes great with a Gretsch
the beach boys cover was EPIC
I like it, but for more as a replacement for typical reverb.
Im picking up good vibrations from this delay
Throw a dirt pedal and chorus in front of that and "The Floyd" sound LIVES! :)
great tones, man
I've owned the original and this seems cool. would love some expression inputs. time for some 3rd hand technology!
Not my cup of tea, but cool anyways. Awesome interpretation of "Cool Vibrations", by the way...
+Andrelix67...... Good Vibrations
+Scott Robertson Exuberant Vibrations.
+Chipper Williams Oil Can Vibrations
Vibrator.
chicken meat
Sounds like Tom Waits in a box. Very cool.
Looks like the Black Fountain is making some waves. The Old Blood boys must be feeling nice and smug.
+Connor Buck Except they've been working on this since 2012, along with the Echorec. More of a coincidence than anything.
From what I can tell they've been smug for awhile.
George O'Donoghue No way! I had no idea.
I got this. Interesting chorusy delay
What's the song that starts at @2:53?
you need to get one of those weird vibrating saw instruments to totally get the good vibration.
I have an oil-can algorithm on my Nemesis.
Now I know what it's for.
What song is @4:30?
Looks like we've found exactly the delay to use for '70s-'80s Mike Oldfield sounds.
So it emulates a tel ray and has some of the cool quirks of an AD-9 (oscillation)? I'd like to hear some of the knobs being turned.
What's the difference between this and the catalinbread echorec
They do have a similar murky quality to the repeats. This has 2 playback heads with a full range of balance between them, whereas their Echorec has 4 heads with 12 combinations of heads engaged. Instead of a tone control this has modulation depth, which is an internal trimpot with the Echorec. Seems like they have similar preamps.
Andy, is your complete version of "Good vibrations" available for download anywhere?
Pretty easy to figure out from this video really.
Slide moog ruled.
How does it compare to the old Morley oil can unit?
great video!
Good vibrations
It's nice for the shadows sound, but I prefer the version of PGS Tel Ray Organ on the Alter Ego X4
someone knows how this pedal works with katzenkönig or other heavy pedals??
LOVE IT !
Beach Boys, YESSS!
Wow Man! Smoking! Good vibrations?..I almost lost my mind. ☝️
I've watching Andy for a couple of days while researching reverbs . . . this guy is ... well lets say, I've stopped watching Kingman . . . Andy just nails these genres and tunes and, well, wouldn't you love to be in a cover band with him???
Have become a catalinbread fan too. Like this pedal but there's only so many dollars . . . I'm going for the Talisman. I'm totally reverbed out.
What sold me on the Talisman was the Stones song groove. Thanks Andy
Interesting to compare the EQ's on the varying delay simulations; compared to Tape, the Oil isn't as murky and diffuse, with the Echorec being yet another stage brighter. This might be the personal fave, with plenty of ambience, without ever getting in the way.
@Dave Davies I was talking emulations, not the real thing. I've found most of the popular pedals to be muddy, and sometimes lacking even in initial attack.I had bought in to the whole " analog warmth" theory, and that's fine, later chain, but pre Drives,- digital is often the way to go.
As is sometimes noted, live playing and bedroom can be very different things. In the struggle to simply cut through a live mix, the Boss pedals do the job without fanfare.
I traded the CB Ecorec over a year ago.
Great show, can someone tell me what type of Tuning the last Part was ?
+Mike Springwald Looks like Dropped D to me. It looks like hes playing a D chord without the third on the high E string, and letting the open E ring, while putting a lower third back in on the D string. Basically instead of
000232 (D Maj)
004230 (Dsus2/F#) which just means the F#, even though the Third, is now the Bass Note (not, however the Root)
Also note that because the High E is open, thus lowering the Major Third down a whole step, makes this a Sus2 chord
+MrKablesp thx mate, i'll try that later ;)
Do I detect a little Slacktone Wronski Avalon Slip-age Andy?
which is the first guitar brand or model? thanks
Reverend Club King 290
What's the brand of the green guitare ??
+Radwann Shidt pretty sure it's Reverend Guitars
And BTW, I'm getting one! :-)
MUST EVERYTHING BE PLAYED WITH A TIMED-ECHO?
I love this pedal. And Andy's playing is always unimpeachably tasteful. But a retro-dealy pedal like this sounds so much moodier and spacier when you acknowledge it's limits and embrace the randomness it introduces to one's playing. Go back and check out echo effects from pre-1980 and, and before, and you'll find that most musicians were able to create some pretty cool, dreamy sounds minus all that timed-echo/tap-time echo stuff.
Enough with the timed-echo, please! And thanks for the demo. :-)
SuperEffCee Amen. Tap and MIDI is a hassle anyway.. Maxon Ad9pro does the job.
Albatross!
Matches the Reverend! Wish it wasn't $200 :( guess you get what you pay for w/ Catalinbread!
Good delay..
Tape delays are still king , but they are a pain in the ass
*warble!*
i got this one. my only issue is that it seems to distort a bit....a bit tough to control too....
No internal adjustable trimpots for gain or anything else? The Catalin Echorec has an internal adjustable gain trimpot.
MAGNETIC TAP?????
OH it's digital? must be garbage......./S
intro song?
Beach Boys - Good Vibrations!
what is the song at 4:30?
kinda sounds like the chords to "Don't Let Me Down" by the Beatles.
