WHY DID RAVANA WRITE SHIVA TANDAVA STOTRAM?
In India, every dominant divine energy has many forms and names. Among the many virtues of Lord Shiva, the most popular one is where Shiva is addressed as Bholenath, it means the one who is innocent and is easy to please.
The legend goes like this: Lord Shiva granted a boon to anyone who praises him, or does penance, with faith and devotion. All the demons took undue advantage of this and worshiped Lord Shiva as they knew it’s easy to please Shiva and receive a boon.
Ravana, who was a great priest, administrator, warrior, and devotee of Lord Shiva was known as the demons of demons. He loved himself and his powers a lot.
The story of stotram begins from a day when Ravana tried to lift the Kailash mountain in his hand to take Lord Shiva along with him to Sri Lanka. As a consequence Lord Shiva pressed his toe and in the process crushed the fingers of Ravana. Ravana cried in pain. To escape from the wrath of Lord Shiva, Ravana sang a hymn which came to be known as the popular Shiva Tandava Stotram.
It is said that music is the most powerful tool to please the lord. Lord Shiva was engrossed in the music of Raavana and got immensely pleased. When Shiva told Ravana to ask for a boon, Ravana asked to confer him with the most powerful tool and thus, became indestructible.
WHY SHOULD ONE CHANT SHIVA TANDAVA STOTRAM?
There are innumerable benefits of chanting Shiva Tandava Stotram. Chanting or listening to Shiv Tandav Stotram confers one with immense power, beauty, and mental strength. It is said that chanting the stotram removes all the negative energies and makes the atmosphere pious.

രാവണൻ ഈ ശ്ലോകം രചിച്ച കഥ നല്ല രസാണ്.
(ഐതിഹ്യ പ്രകാരം),രാവണൻ സത്യത്തിൽ നല്ല പാട്ടുകാരനാണ്. അതെ സമയം, വലിയ ശിവ ഭക്തനും. ദേവലോകത്തെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് നാരദൻ ദേവലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും നല്ല പാട്ടുകാരനും എല്ലാ ലോകത്തിലെയും മികച്ച പാട്ടുകാരാണെന്നു അഹങ്കരിക്കുന്ന ഒരാളുമാണ്. ഒരിക്കൽ നാരദന്റെ അസൂയ മൂത്തു മൂപ്പർ പോയി രാവണനെ ഏഷണി കൂട്ടി. "ഇത്ര വലിയ ശിവ ഭക്തനല്ലെ, എന്നിട്ടും ഒരു ദർശനം പോലും കിട്ടിയിട്ടില്ലല്ലോ, ചിലപ്പോൾ കൈലാസ പർവതം എടുത്തുയർത്തി ശക്തി കാണിച്ചാൽ ദർശനം കിട്ടിയേക്കും"(ഇങ്ങനെ എന്തോ). ഇത് കേട്ട പാടെ, രാവണൻ ചാടി പുറപ്പെട്ടു. കൈലാസത്തിലേക്ക്. അവിടെ എത്തി അങ്ങേര് ഇരുപത് കയ്യും കൊണ്ട് കൈലാസം എടുത്തുയർത്തി അമ്മാനമാടി. ശിവന് ഇത് കണ്ട ദേഷ്യം കൊണ്ട് പർവതത്തിന്റെ ഭാരം കൂട്ടി. അതോടെ രാവണന്റെ ഇരുപതു കയ്യും പർവതത്തിന്റെ അടിയിൽ പെട്ട് അയാൾ ആകെ പെട്ട് പോയി. അങ്ങനെ ശിവനെ പ്രീതിപ്പെടുത്താൻ അവിടെ കിടന്നു ഇണ്ടാക്കി പാടിയ ശ്ലോകം ആണ് ഇത് എന്നാണ് പറഞ്ഞു കേട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത്.
പക്ഷെ ബാഹുബലിലെ ഈ പാട്ടിന്റെ മലയാളം വേർഷൻ കുറച്ച കോമഡി ആയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
